The crowning glory and connecting thread of all these communities throughout the region is the immense beauty where opportunities for outdoor recreation abound. From hiking and mushroom hunting in lush forests to spectacular waterfalls to lakes and river teeming with opportunities for boating, kayaking, fishing, and camping to local parks, bicycling, fun runs, outdoor concerts and festivals, movies in the park, and more… There is something for everyone who resides or visits the area to enjoy and explore.

Silver Falls State Park/Trail of 10 Falls: One of the best loved outdoor attractions in Oregon, hikers can see all 10 waterfalls in a loop trail. Those interested in a shorter experience can visit the most iconic spot, South Falls, all on paved trails.

Abiqua Falls: This 102-foot waterfall near Scotts Mills is part of the same geological formation that created the waterfalls at Silver Falls State Park.

Detroit Lake: Created by a dam constructed from 1949 to 1953 on the North Santiam River, Detroit Lake is one of the state’s prime recreation spots, with year-round fishing as well as highly popular boating and camping each year with the high season from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Turner Lake: Formerly a quarry that filled with ground water the area has become a popular local spot with the addition of a boat ramp, dock, restrooms and other amenities, including kayak and paddleboard rentals.

Aumsville Ponds: The 77-acre site just outside of Aumsville is composed of wetlands and upland buffer areas and features a trail, wildlife viewing and a fishing pier. Bass, bluegill, trout and catfish are found here.

Lyons Bass Ponds: Just 1.4 miles from Lyons, the reservoir is a versatile fishing spot whether you are fly fishing, spinning or baitcasting.

and features dozens of parks and stopping points to fish, paddle, kayak, picnic, hike and camp, although some areas still remain affected by the 2020 wildfires.

Brian Haney Memorial Skatepark: 1110 Main St., Aumsville. Helmets required; open until curfew, weather permitting. No bikes allowed.

Porter-Boone and Boone Docks Park: 1105 Main St., Aumsville. Large covered area. Shelter is reservable for events. Access to Mill Creek, year-round ping pong tables, stage/gazebo covered area, disc golf, playground, walking trail, and horse shoe pits.

Wildwood Splash Park: 700 N. 5th St., Aumsville. Year-round playground with covered picnic area and restrooms. Summer splash pad.

Church Park: Sublimity’s Church Park, between Main and Starr on Pine Street, features a veterans’ memorial, picnic shelter, children’s playground, course for disc golf, horseshoe pits and running trail.

Early Settlers Park: Early Settlers Park, located on West Main across from the Sublimity Fire Station, offers a reservable picnic shelter with sink, play structures, baseball field and tennis court.

Northslope Park: In the northeast portion of Stayton, off Fern Ridge Road at the east end of Dawn Drive, this park has children’s play areas, a half basketball court and a picnic area.

Pioneer & Neitling Parks: Located off Seventh Avenue and Marion Street adjoining the 55-acre Wilderness Park, Pioneer Park features play equipment, disc golf course, and the beautiful Stayton-Jordan Bridge. Neitling features an open grassy area and interior pathway system.

Riverfront Park: Following along the banks of the beautiful North Santiam River, this Stayton park is 55 acres of undeveloped land. Accessed by a pedestrian bridge from East Florence Street, the park provides opportunities for hiking, fishing, and walking your favorite canine companion.

Quail Run Park: In northwestern Stayton between Eagle Street and Meadowlark Drive, this neighborhood park includes a half basketball court, children’s playground, backstop for informal baseball play, benches and a paved interior pathway.

Santiam Park: Located on the corner of Third Avenue and Wildflower Drive this Stayton Park features a picnic shelter, play area with a foamy surface which lends the park its nickname (“the bouncy park”), and walking and bike trails along the wildlife sanctuary.

Stayton Dog Park: Located at 180 N 4th Ave. Fido can play off leash in this fenced, tree studded park open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. There’s water for thirsty dogs and benches for people to sit and watch the fun.

Westown Park: In West Stayton on Westpark Court, this park features play areas, a half-court basketball court, two picnic tables, and a drinking fountain.
