Arts and Culture

Hemmed by prairies, hills, and creeks, the beautiful terrain that encompasses Silverton, Mount Angel, and nearby Scotts Mills was called “Silverton Country” by the pioneers that settled this area. Since the late 19th Century, artists of all disciplines have called Silverton and Mount Angel home.

This immersive environment provided a launch for political cartoonist Homer Davenport, a landscape for photographer June Drake, and even Clark Gable passed through in his early days. Our communities are conscious of the past and dedicated to preserving it for future generations to appreciate. Today, many creative guilds, shops, and peformance venues give the towns their style and sense of creative fun today.

GEM Drives Greater Impact

Newly Expanded Facility For decades, GEM Equipment of Oregon, Inc. has been a leading international manufacturer of custom industrial food processing equipment. GEM designs, builds, and installs high-capacity systems, specializing in advanced frying and blanching technology for the potato and vegetable processing industries. Following our August 2023 acquisition by global freezing and cooling leader FPS Food Process Solutions, we consolidated all operations into our newly expanded headquarters in Mt. Angel, Oregon. By bringing our legacy Woodburn workforce and production lines under a single roof, we have unified our entire engineering and manufacturing ecosystem.

Engineered for Unprecedented Scale Our newly expanded facility features a brand-new 24,000-square-foot manufacturing space and 7,200 square feet of modern offices, built to drive your operational efficiency forward:

• Built to manufacture massive fryers and blanchers capable of processing 50,000 pounds of potatoes per hour.

• Direct, side-by-side collaboration between design and fabrication for faster project turnaround.

• Serving as the premier North American hub for the FPS Global Family, seamlessly pairing GEM’s industrial frying tech with FPS’s turn-key freezing systems.
