The commercial maritime industry has long been defined by its global connectivity, and this past year has only reinforced its vital role in sustaining international trade. As the sector navigates evolving challenges, it continues to prioritize strengthening supply chain resilience, mitigating emerging threats, and investing in sustainable and secure operational practices. Through it all, the industry remains unwavering in its commitment to innovation, security, and environmental responsibility.
In an era where adaptability in trade routes is more critical than ever, maritime leaders are demonstrating exceptional foresight and strategic thinking. The continued advancement of alternative fuels, the integration of digital technologies, and the enhancement of supply chain resilience reflect a collective effort to ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable movement of global commerce—despite an increasingly complex and unpredictable world.
In 1993, the Board of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York & New Jersey created the International Maritime Hall of Fame to honor those visionaries who, through excellence in their company, organization, or services, best exemplify the qualities of forward thinking that guide our industry now and in the future.
This year the following areas were considered for persons with significant accomplishments: international container carrier, international vessel operator, terminal operator, non-container steamship carrier (bulk, liquid, or oil), ocean transportation intermediary, cruise industry, stevedore, cargo handling, port logistics, maritime negotiations and labor, Class I railways, supply chain collaboration, intermodal operators and marine construction.
The Lookout Award is presented to people who are true transportation visionaries. Funds raised from the Awards event promote advocacy and educational awareness for the industry.
This year, the International Maritime Hall of Fame inducts five outstanding leaders:

Prior to her retirement in December 2024, Jennifer Boykin served as a 37-year career shipbuilder and the first woman president in HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division’s 139-year history.
Jennifer’s responsibilities as the shipyard’s president started with leading the operations of Virginia’s largest industrial employer that designs, builds and maintains the world’s most complex ships: nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines.
While she and her shipbuilding team of 26,000 managed a complex supply chain, a 550-acre facility and workforce challenges to deliver nuclear-powered ships to the United States Navy, Jennifer also took the responsibility of developing strong leaders at every level personally.
A United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) graduate, Jennifer joined Newport News Shipbuilding in 1987 as a nuclear engineer. She later served as a construction superintendent on aircraft carriers USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), working closely with the crews to turn the ships over to the Navy. Jennifer also worked as facilities and waterfront support director, vice president of quality and process excellence, and vice president of engineering and design.
Jennifer’s significant accomplishments as president include:
• Integrating new technologies and a workforce with diverse experiences to innovate and meet the Navy’s growing demands for increased ship capabilities.
• Working to create a strong leadership culture and engaging work environment.
• Securing an historic two-ship block buy contract for our nation’s next two nuclear-powered aircraft carriers – a feat not accomplished in 30 years.
• Leveraging diverse perspectives to form a COVID19 Crisis Action Group dedicated to the shipyard’s COVID-19 response that kept shipbuilders safe and employed, and maintained Newport News Shipbuilding’s Navy commitments.
Jennifer attributes much of her success to mentorship, and she takes every opportunity to pay it forward. To connect all employees to the mission, build leadership and promote an inclusive culture, she strengthened the shipyard’s mentorship program, started formal rotation programs and grew the number of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
“Jennifer served as the first woman president in HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division’s 139-year history.”
She is a founding member of two organizations aimed at empowering girls and women: Old Dominion University’s Women’s Initiative Network (WIN), which mentors first-generation female students, and First 10 Forward, established by women in the first ten classes of USMMA with women graduates.
Jennifer also champions STEM education and awareness, especially programs focused on women and minorities. One example is “Girls with Engineering Minds in Shipbuilding,” an after-school program Jennifer spearheaded to spark middle school girls’ interest in STEM careers.
Ken Kellaway is a transformative leader and pioneer in the intermodal trucking and logistics industry, with a career spanning more than 35 years characterized by innovation, strategic vision, and entrepreneurial excellence.
Ken is currently Co-Founder, President, and CEO of RoadOne IntermodaLogistics, the leading national provider of port and rail drayage solutions, where he oversees strategic direction, operational growth, and business development.
Under his leadership, RoadOne has grown to operate over 2,100 trucks across 90 terminals nationwide, and manages more than five million square feet of coastal transload and distribution space. Ken also spearheads the company’s dedicated solutions business, which offers committed assets to clients for transloading, dedicated fleet operations, as well as yard and chassis management.
In 1987, Ken began his professional journey after completing business school in Boston. He decided to join his father Ken Sr. and take over the family’s 3rd generation public warehousing business. This quickly became the platform to launch Kellaway Transportation, Inc. and begin the mission to re-define and dominate the drayage space in the Northeast. With David McLaughlin soon coming on board as Ken’s Partner in 1994, the team was set to position Kellaway, and the RoadOne business, for significant long term success. Over the following 35 years they expanded the RoadOne business nationwide by adding locations, logistics service offerings and through key regional acquisitions.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the logistics industry, Kellaway received the prestigious Connie Award in 2022 from the Containerization and
Intermodal Institute (CII), becoming the first drayage executive in the Award’s 50-year history to receive this honor.
Kellaway’s innovative vision extends beyond RoadOne. He co-founded Kinimatic, a tech forward leader in warehousing, distribution, and eCommerce fulfillment, demonstrating his ability to adapt to evolving market demands. Additionally, he co-founded EDRAY, a collaborative port logistics platform designed to address port logistics operational challenges, showcasing his commitment to continuously enhancing industry efficiency.
Ken holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Providence College and an MBA from Babson College, known for its entrepreneurship curriculum. He remains active in numerous industry and charitable boards, exemplifying his dedication to both professional excellence and community service.
“Ken is a transformative leader and pioneer in the intermodal trucking and logistics industry.”
For more than 40 years, Ken’s wife, Susan, has been a steadfast partner—supporting their business success and devoting herself to raising their four children. Ken and Susan now reside in Sarasota, Florida as well as Chatham, Massachusetts and enjoy spending time outside of work traveling with their family, as well as playing golf, skiing and boating.

Jim Lawrence has dedicated his life to the maritime industry for over three decades, shaping both the financial and communications landscapes of the sector. As Chairman of Marine Money and President and founding partner of MTI Network, his influence has been both profound and far-reaching.
Jim began his maritime career at Lloyd’s of London Press, managing the company’s North American business from New York City. His passion for maritime finance led him to launch a modest 10-page newsletter focused on credit reporting. Over time, that publication evolved into Marine Money, now the world’s leading source of ship finance intelligence. Today, as it celebrates its 38th anniversary, Marine Money remains the premier platform connecting shipowners with international capital markets.
In those early and formative years, Jim was not alone in building Marine Money into the industry powerhouse it is today. His wife, Jill Lawrence, played a vital role, working tirelessly alongside him to shape the magazine’s identity and expand its reach. And when their daughters, Kate and Alexa, were old enough, they too were part of the effort—often seen at conferences helping at the registration table. It was, and remains, a true family business. Their collaborative effort laid the foundation for what has become an indispensable resource within the maritime finance community.
In 1990, Jim co-founded MTI Network with Pat Adamson, a crisis communications firm serving the international shipping industry. Under his leadership, MTI has become the most experienced firm in its field, providing reputation protection and rapid-response services to maritime clients around the world.
Beyond his corporate work, Jim has been deeply involved in numerous industry organizations. He has served on the board of the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI), the largest mariners’ service agency in North America, and has been a trustee of the Connecticut Maritime Association’s Education Foundation. He is also a contributing participant in key industry groups including the Blue Sky Maritime Coalition, Global Maritime Forum, BIMCO, and the International Chamber of Shipping.
“Jim has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the maritime sector, profoundly shaping its financial and communicative core.”
His contributions have been recognized with several prestigious honors. In 2018, SCI awarded him the Silver Bell Award for his outstanding leadership and commitment to merchant mariners. The following year, the U.S. Coast Guard presented him with the Distinguished Public Service Award, recognizing more than three decades of dedicated support and leadership in international shipping.
Throughout his career, Jim Lawrence has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the maritime sector, profoundly shaping its financial and communicative core. But more than anything, his greatest driver has been his passion for the maritime community—the people in it and the relationships that make this great industry work. He is, through and through, a man of the people, guided by a deep sense of connection, respect, and service to those who keep global trade moving.

Jeff, a prominent lawyer, association leader, and strategic advisor in the maritime industry for over 40 years, has spent his career guiding the industry through numerous groundbreaking and innovative projects. Through this work, Jeff developed a lifelong interest in finding productive ways for competitors to engage in cooperative activities supporting industry efficiencies and service initiatives, while complying with applicable competition laws.
Jeff’s law practice put him at the center of many major advancements in liner shipping, including the development of the early RoRo and container shipping joint services and vessel sharing arrangements, the first global container shipping alliances, and other cooperative efforts relating to intermodal transport. Of note, his work also encompassed the formation of the first industry grey equipment pools, a paradigm changing effort for intermodal efficiencies, safety, and sustainability. Consistent with this focus, Jeff served as an industry representative in over 20 foreign jurisdictions and multinational organizations seeking the development of laws to facilitate efficiency enhancing industry practices.
For many years Jeff led the nationally recognized Transportation & Trade Group at the Cozen O’Connor law firm. Prior to his joining the Cozen firm, Jeff was a senior partner at the Washington, DC maritime law firm of Sher & Blackwell, which merged into Cozen in 2010.
“Jeff has spent his career guiding the industry through numerous groundbreaking and innovative projects.”
Jeff has also served as Executive Director of the Ocean Carrier Equipment Management Association (OCEMA), an association of ten global containership carriers concerned with intermodal operational and safety matters. Although now fully retired from the practice of law, Jeff retains an active portfolio of business activities and continues to advise industry associations and companies on policy and strategic matters.
