The commercial maritime industry has always remained resilient within our rapidly changing global landscape, and this past year is no exception. With ongoing conflicts in the middle east and drought effecting the Panama Canal, the safe shifting and flexibility of maritime trade routes remains paramount. Today’s industry leaders prove time and time again that global events and ongoing trends influence decision making and pivoting to sustain the safety and security of the maritime sector. Tonight, we honor leaders who have navigated through challenges and enhanced maritime operations through ingenuity, innovation, and vision.
In 1993, the Board of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York & New Jersey created the International Maritime Hall of Fame to honor those visionaries who, through excellence in their company, organization, or services, best exemplify the qualities of forward thinking that guide our industry now and in the future.
This year the following areas were considered for persons with significant accomplishments: international container carrier, international vessel operator, terminal operator, non-container steamship carrier (bulk, liquid, or oil), ocean transportation intermediary, cruise industry stevedore, cargo handling, port logistics, maritime negotiations and labor, Class I railways, and supply chain collaboration.
The Lookout Award is presented to people who are true transportation visionaries. Funds raised from the Awards event promote advocacy and educational awareness for the industry.
This year, the International Maritime Hall of Fame inducts five outstanding leaders:
Randy Booker Chairman Terminal Investment Corporation
Joseph S. Gregorio
Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Pacific Crane Maintenance Company, LLC
Rolf Habben Jansen
Chief Executive Officer Hapag-Lloyd
Mary Jo Muoio
Director, Customs and Trade Amazon
John C. Wobensmith
Chief Executive Officer
Genco Shipping & Trading Limited
Please join us in honoring tonight’s inductees and thank them for keeping the international maritime and transportation sectors strong and the supply chain competitive.

Randy has created unique value in ocean terminal operations through innovative services and products and has extended this value creation to the broader supply chain through a uniquely branded OEM customer experience. In an industry that likes good stories, the story of Randy and TICO resonates. Randy’s professional bio is the story of TICO where he has poured all his professional energies into a career that spans five decades. The two are inextricably entwined.
In the early 1970’s Randy saw the arrival of container terminals as an opportunity to improve waterfront operating efficiency in terms of the capital, land, and human resources deployed in equipment required to run these new operations. Terminal tractors were new to marine cargo operations. Randy introduced the TICO neutral pool turnkey equipment service model in the port of Savannah delivering to port end users efficiencies in capital, operating costs, land, business risk, and uptime that cannot be replicated in a traditional direct ownership model. Today, the TICO Terminal Services business delivers value in numerous other east and gulf coast ports and the fleet has grown steadily over the years.
In the early 1980’s Randy decided to design and build a proprietary TICO terminal tractor with the goal of a truck designed to be easily repaired, rebuilt, and durable in harsh port operating environments, thus improving uptime. For many years Randy’s team built trucks only for the TICO fleet. In 2008, TICO Manufacturing commenced external retail sales. Today, TICO is a leading global producer of terminal tractors, having invested aggressively in increased production capacity to meet anticipated future demand and in a unique customer experience platform trademarked TICO Edge™.
Power train options now include several sustainability options, including natural gas and electric. The retail customer base includes many of the leading national fleets along with TICO’s world class North American dealer network of 28 companies with 170 locations. Getting there has been a journey whose hallmark has been Randy’s legendary tenacity.
Being part of Randy’s team has always demanded special people who can nurture enduring partnerships. TICO started by doing something no one else was doing and built a business by solving pain points that had often gone unnoticed. That is the essence of creating value.
“Randy has created unique value in ocean terminal operations through innovative services and products.”
Apart from building his commitment to building a team and his business, Randy is known for supporting friends and others in the shipping space following hurricanes and other disasters and has long been a generous supporter of schools and his beloved Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Savannah. Randy recently turned 81 and was married last September to his wife Judy.

Joeseph S. Gregorio is a 45-year veteran of the cargo transportation maintenance industry and co-founded Pacific Crane Maintenance Company (PCMC) in 1990. As Chairman & CEO, Joe focuses primarily on overseeing the strategic direction of the Company, including managing PCMC’s core staff of Senior Executives.
Joe grew up in the San Pedro Port Complex, starting his career at Rigging International’s maintenance and repair division (RIMCO) in 1978 at the age of 19 as a mechanic/electrician. As a mechanic, Joe erected, maintained, and repaired some of the first container cranes to be utilized in the Los Angeles/Long Beach Port Complex. Joe worked his way into becoming a foreman, managing several crews of mechanics maintaining, repairing, and performing special projects on cranes in the Los Angeles/Long Beach Port Complex, as well as in several other locations including Mexico, Guam, Puerto Rico etc. Joe later made the transition into management in the 1980’s and ultimately became the president of west coast operations for RIMCO until 1990 when he left to start PCMC.
PCMC is a family-run business and benefits from the participation of Joe and his wife Laura’s entire clan. Their sons Joe Jr., Andy and Robert, daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Kyle Clinton and brother-in-law Darrin DelConte all play important roles within the business.
Joe’s leadership, dedication, and hard work have propelled PCMC to what it is today, the largest maintenance and repair service provider to the maritime industry, as well as the largest employer of ILWU mechanics.
The company today employs about 1,100 people, including approximately 900 longshore mechanics and 100 ILWU longshoremen. PCMC contracts with shipping companies, terminal operators, port authorities, intermodal equipment providers, and equipment manufacturers to provide complete maintenance and repair programs for all types of automated and nonautomated cargo handling equipment.
In addition to dedicating his time to PCMC, Joe also supports many charitable causes and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Pacific Maritime Association.
Although the above accomplishments have made a reputation for Joe throughout the waterfront and in his community, Joe’s most valued achievement is his family.
“Joe’s leadership, dedication, and hard work have propelled PCMC to what it is today.”
He and his wife Laura met at San Pedro High School and have been married for over 44 years. Joe prides himself on being a dedicated husband to his wife Laura, father to his four children, and grandfather to his many grandchildren. Joe and Laura devote themselves to their seven grandchildren (ranging in age from 1 to 25), attending their sports events and various performances. Nothing creates more happiness for Joe than spending quality time with his family.

A native of the Netherlands, Habben Jansen holds a degree in economics from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, where he graduated in 1991. He began his 30-plus year career in logistics and shipping as a trainee with former Dutch shipping company Royal Nedlloyd.
Royal Nedlloyd then merged the shipping activities with P&O into P&O Nedlloyd and the landside activities were sold to Deutsche Post, which also included DHL and Danzas. He held various positions at Danzas in Switzerland before its rebranding to DHL. In 2021, Hapag-Lloyd reinforced its expansion in Africa by acquiring NileDutch, a shipping company specializing in West African trades. In 2022, under Habben Jansen’s direction, Hapag-Lloyd expanded its presence in South Africa by acquiring the container business of Deutsche Afrika-Linien (DAL). In addition, Habben Jansen has led initiatives to grow Hapag-Lloyd’s terminal portfolio, with significant expansions in Morocco, Germany, Egypt, Italy, the Americas, and India, alongside acquiring SAAM Terminal & Logistics and a significant stake in the Indian terminal and inland operator J M Baxi Ports & Logistics Limited.

John C. Wobensmith
The
John C. Wobensmith has nearly 30 years of leadership experience in the shipping industry.
John gravitated to the shipping industry at a young age, based on his love of the water, being a core member of the St. Mary’s College sailing Team and his formative internship with the head of the Port Authority of Baltimore.
After graduating college, John turned his focus to ship financing, landing his first role at the First National Bank of Maryland, where he ran their Latin America shipping portfolio at the age of 24, working for one of his mentors George Wood.
John served as Senior Vice President with American Marine Advisor before joining Genco Shipping in 2005, where he spearheaded its IPO and served as the Company’s CFO for twelve years. Genco represented the first of two dry-bulk shipping companies John brought public. In 2017, John became CEO of Genco and led the company through the transition from a tonnage provider to an active owner operator, providing a full-service logistics solution to create value for Genco and its customers.
Under John’s leadership, the company achieved other notable accomplishments including resetting its capital structure to create a low-leverage compelling and differentiated dividend company in the public markets and embracing new technology to improve fuel efficiency and lower Genco’s carbon footprint. Advancing the long-term sustainability of Genco and the shipping industry is a priority for Genco, and John is proud that Genco has been rated the top ESG shipping company for the past three years.
The importance of giving back is a significant tenet of John’s work and personal life. For the past 25 years, he has volunteered with Children of Bellevue, a non-profit organization focused on the health and well-being of children in New York City. In 2019, he was honored as a Children’s Champion by Children of Bellevue due to his fundraising efforts and work with the organization.
“In
2017, John became CEO of Genco and led the company through the transition from a tonnage provider to an active owner operator.”
John is also one of the longest serving trustees on the Board of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He was appointed as a trustee by four different State governors and continues to serve in that capacity. Over the years, he has provided numerous need-based scholarships for deserving students at St Mary’s. And more recently he endowed the Wobensmith Family Marine Science Academic Laboratory. John resides in New York with his wife Andrea and their two daughters, Ella and Gracie.
The IGB Group congratulates John C. Wobensmith for being inducted into the International Maritime Hall of Fame.
