Kidz Love Soccer Classes

All levels are welcome to enjoy learning the world’s most popular sport! Kidz Love Soccer provides positive framework whereby all players are nurtured, built up, and developed as young athletes.

All kids receive a Kidz Love Soccer jersey!

A typical class session includes age-appropriate soccer activities: warm up, skill introduction, fun games and instructional scrimmages conducted in a non-competitive, recreational format led by the professional KLS staff.

Mommy/Daddy & Me Soccer

The fun happens on the field, so don’t just watch from the sidelines! Here is a chance to join your toddler’s introduction to the world’s most popular sport. You’ll participate in fun, age-appropriate activities, and help your child to develop their motor and socialization skills. A variety of soccer activities are played each week. Adult participation is required. Classes do not require shin guards.

Tot Soccer

Chase the ball! Tot-Soccer helps kids learn to be part of a structured group activity without a parent by their side. Realizing this can be difficult for young children, our field-tested, age specific curriculum builds confidence and promotes physical development in a safe, supportive and fun environment. Tot Soccer focuses on helping kids develop their large motor skills through skill demonstrations and entertaining games like Bugs in the House! These games build skill and self esteem and prepare tots to start running and kicking - just like the big kids.

Pre Soccer

Enjoy running and kicking just like big kids! Have fun and learn the basic techniques of soccer while building self esteem and learning to follow instructions in a nurturing environment. In accordance with current health restrictions, kids will be playing at a distance from each other and will not share equipment. Our coaches will bring enough soccer balls for each child to have one. The focus will be more on skills and individual development as a result of the current accommodations. Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Soccer 1: Techniques & Teamwork

Players will learn dribbling, passing, defense and shooting goals! Fun skill games are played at every session and every participant will have a ball at their feet. Small sided soccer matches will be introduced gradually. Perfect for the first time players while being fun and engaging for kids with some experience. Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Soccer 2: Skillz & Scrimmages

A great introduction to competitive soccer. Skillz and Scrimmages teaches advanced skill building such as dribbling, passing and shooting in a team format, and an introduction to goal-tending. Kids will scrimmage and learn to play together as a team. From the defense and mid-field to forward and goalie, kids will get exposure to playing every position and have a blast doing it. Appropriate for players of varying skill levels. Best of all, each participant receives a Kidz Love Soccer jersey! Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Youth Pee-Wee Soccer League

Our Pee-Wee Soccer League is a non-competitive, instructional league for children ages 3-8 to learn teamwork and the basics of soccer. Player’s age determined as of August 1st. 3/4 and 5/6 soccer teams will be coed and team size will be limited to 8 players. Teams practice one night each week and play one game on Saturdays. No goalkeepers. Player registration includes a team t-shirt and soccer ball.

SKYHAWKS - BASKETBALL

This fun, skill-intensive program is designed for beginning to intermediate players. Using our progressional curriculum, we focus on the whole player - teaching sportsmanship and teamwork. Boys and girls will learn the fundamentals of passing, shooting, ball handling, rebounding, and defense through skill-based instruction and small-sided scrimmages.

Learning basketball has never been more fun! These classes focus on dribbling, shot technique, passing and team work. Adjustable hoops and appropriately sized basketballs are used to always provide just the right amount of challenge. Parent participation required for ages 3-3.5 years.

Trailblazers Cross Country

Trailblazers Running Club offers cross country running during the Fall for youth girls and boys. It’s missionis to develop young athletes in the fundamentals of running . Through a supportive and structured environment, our program encourages young runners to build self confidence, set realistic goals and work on form and technique. All abilities, speeds and fitness levels are invited to join this fun program.

Recreation level

In addition to training, athletes will have the option to participate in cross country meets with other local parks and rec teams. They will be offered the experiences of running against other teams at varying courses. Athletes can expect to run usually 1 to 3 miles during practice (age dependent) and 1/2 mile, 1 mile, or 1.5 miles races.

Advanced Level

Location: Lake Wilderness Park

This is for the runner who can run a mile without stopping (does not have to be fast) and who would like to develop into a more competitive runner. This advanced program will be focused on preparing the athlete to compete their best at the Jr. Olympic Association meet the 2nd Saturday of November.

Maple Valley Youth Volleyball League

Bump, set, and attack the ball in Parks & Rec’s indoor volleyball league. Our youth volleyball league is the perfect way to teach players the fundamentals of volleyball while learning the basics of the sport. Passing, setting, hitting, and serving will be taught by volunteer parent coaches. Two age divisions offered: 9/10 and 11/12 years. Player’s age determined as of August 1, 2023. Teams will practice either Tuesday or Thursday nights each week and play one match on Saturdays. Players receive a team t-shirt after registering.

Acrylic Art Class

Young artists will learn basic art skills, including composition and color theory. Both students with no previous art experience and a previous art interest are welcome! We will be painting a variety of styles, from realism to abstract. Supplies are included in cost and classes will result in a finished painting each week.

Meet the Instructor: Jordan Bye has been passionate about art his entire life and has been professionally painting since 2013. In addition to spreading art for all to enjoy, Jordan’s goal as an artist is to better understand mental health and to create spaces of healing through color therapy and curiosity. Indoor Pickleball Drop-in

MV Parks & Rec is excited to offer an indoor pickleball option during the winter months. Bring a playing partner or partner up at the gym. Drop-in will be offered on Friday nights at local Tahoma District schools. Play as long as you want for just $10 each night. Pre-registration required.

Player cards or additional memberships are not required.

Brave the cold temperatures this fall and swing a bat you aren’t afraid to crack in our Fall Softball League. Teams play 8 league games in addition to playoffs for the top teams. Gentle Flow Yoga

Gentle Yoga is calm, stable yoga class that uses modified postures (asana) as well as breath work (pranayama) to help strengthen and stretch the muscles. Ideal for anyone recovering from an injury or for those with limited mobility.

Connect your mind to your muscle and gain strength, mobility and body awareness. This session includes strength, cardio and mindfulness. Thirak Bollywood Dance - Women

Fly Fishing 101 - Foundation

Ever dream of casting a fly line to enjoy some PNW fishing, but didn’t know where to start? Rusty after a long hiatus and you need to brush up on your skills? Fly Fishing 101 is for you!

Acquire the basic knowledge and techniques that will set the foundation for your fly fishing journey. You will learn what gear you need and how it works, types of lines and leaders, essential knots to set up your rig, different types of flies and when to use them, how fly casting works and drills you can use to hone your craft. Kindergarten Puppy Training

Start your puppy off on the right “paw” with proper first experiences during the important socialization periods of puppyhood. This is an introduction to the learning and training process for puppies age 8 weeks to 5 months. Your puppy will learn to heel on a leash, come when called, sit and down stays. You can also earn your AKC S.T.A.R. certificate. S.T.A.R. = Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsible owner. Dogs do not attend first class and please provide shot record.

Fall is a wonderful time to plant with warm soil and winter rains coming to water the new plants. When you purchase plants at the Arboretum nursery, you help support the mission of the Lake Wilderness Arboretum.

Fall Tours:

Explore & celebrate the colors of fall with a guided tour through the Arboretum on October 21 at 11am.

Make A Difference Day: Join LWA on 10/28 for Maple Valley’s annual Make A Difference Day. Volunteers take on a variety of projects led by Arboretum volunteers for a fun-filled, satisfying day of making a difference in your community.
