We are very pleased to introduce you to our 2020 Cayman Islands Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report. Our purpose is to make an impact that matters for our clients, our people, our community and our environment. You will see from this report the impact that we are making across each of these areas.

Established over 50 years ago, the Maples Group strives to be an integral member of our community both as a premier organisation and a dedicated corporate citizen in the Cayman Islands.

As one of the largest employers in the Cayman Islands, and the largest in financial services, we create a work environment where current and future team members can learn, thrive and excel.

Over 60% of our workforce are Caymanians and we are committed to investing in the next generation through our internships and educational assistance programmes to cultivate exciting and rewarding careers.

As a corporate citizen, we are also passionate about supporting and developing the local community.

We place the utmost importance in our role as a corporate citizen and believe through strong values, altruism and compassion we can make a difference and inspire others to do the same.

Through our long-standing sponsorship programmes, funding and volunteer initiatives, we continue to support local causes and organisations that focus on the development, improvement and benefit of the following five pillars of our communities: •

Our philanthropic programme has enabled us to support both historical projects and long-standing initiatives, such as the George Town Library Wing Extension and the state-of-the-art renovation of the Pines Retirement Home, as well as helping raise funds for the annual Hannah’s Heroes initiative.

We continue to work hard to minimise the impact that we have on the environment and we strive to move the Maples Group towards full environmentally friendly operations, through gradually implementing measures and staff education. INFLUENCING THE NEXT GENERATION Our scholarship, articles of clerkship and internship programmes continue to attract some of the most outstanding students.

Articles of Clerkship Our articles of clerkship programme provides graduates the opportunity to train and qualify as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands without having to train in the UK or elsewhere.

In 2020, four of our articled clerks, Chantal Martin, Lucy Day, Hailee Robinson and Juliana Wood, were admitted as attorneys-at-law in the Cayman Islands. Since the programme launched in 2005, we have supported over 40 Caymanians to qualify as attorneys-at-law and are very proud of their achievements.

Internships Each year, we invite applications from young Caymanians who are in their final years of secondary education or beginning their tertiary education to work during the summer months within our various practice groups and business teams.

Since 2008, we have had over 300 internship placements of talented Caymanians as part of our internship programme, affording them an invaluable opportunity to gain experience and develop capability in a variety of fields, including law, fiduciary services, fund administration, accounting, marketing, compliance, information technology, office administration, human resources and information services.

Scholarships Since 1994, we have offered both legal and non-legal scholarships to outstanding Caymanian students to help with the cost of tuition, accommodation and books.

We are delighted to have awarded more than 100 scholarships totalling over US$6.3 million in funds to date, with approximately US$600,000 for the 2020 academic year.

LONG-STANDING PARTNERSHIPS George Town Library Wing Extension In 2009, we provided a US$2.5million donation to the George Town Library to support the development of a three-storey wing extension, which was named the ‘Maples Wing’. The 12,000 square foot extension included a full refurbishment and modernisation of the wing. In addition to a larger selection of books and reference materials, the wing provides computers, a children’s section and a conference room.

A central service to the community, the George Town Library extension was a welcomed partnership and highlights our commitment to education and literacy in the Cayman Islands.

Hannah’s Heroes – St. Baldrick’s Foundation

Special Olympics Cayman Islands

St. Baldrick’s Foundation hosts the annual headshaving event, Hannah’s Heroes, established in honour of Hannah Meeson, a local child diagnosed with brain cancer. The event raises funds for childhood cancer research and helps heroes like Hannah keep on fighting.

The Special Olympics Cayman Islands (“SOCI”) provides year-round training and athletic competitions

Since 2015, Team “Maples and Balder” has taken part to help raise over US$194,000 for this worthy cause.

ARTS & CULTURE The arts are a vital outlet for expression, inspiration and growth in the Cayman Islands and our culture’s rich, creative tapestry of heritage is undoubtedly the soul of our community. However, the arts rely on constant community support to thrive and we are committed to participating in the preservation of cultural practices and supporting the work of local artists in the Cayman Islands, ensuring that current and future generations have artefacts, representative of their cultural identity, to enjoy and learn from for many years to come.

Pedro St. James – Christmas at the Castle Hosted by the Tourism Attraction Board and Pedro St. James in December, Christmas at the Castle is a freeto-attend event that kicks off the holiday season. The celebration offers the opportunity for local vendors and artisans to sell their products and local talent to showcase their music.

In 2020, we were delighted to sponsor Christmas at the Castle, which also served to help to raise funds for the historic site’s 2021 goal to build a wheelchair accessible walkway.

Here are some of the ways that the Maples Group supported Arts & Culture in 2020 Cayman National Cultural Foundation In a year defined by restrictions against in-person events, the performing arts have undoubtedly struggled. However, it appears that resilient thespians have been temporarily drawn to the airwaves in place of the stage. As a demonstration of our ongoing support for the local arts and culture sector, we sponsored Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s sitcom “De Honeymoon Over”. The award-winning play, directed by Henry Muttoo, is a comedy about a young couple experiencing the growing pains of marriage. The production was broadcast over Radio Cayman in September and October 2020.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH We firmly believe that local investment is not only the right thing to do but also has a profound impact on those in our community. Our outreach programmes strengthen our relationships with the local community and are representative of our commitment to acting responsibly and for the greater good.

Here are some of the ways that the Maples Group supported Community Outreach in 2020 Cayman Islands Red Cross Emergency Appeal In 2020, in response to a general appeal by the Cayman Islands Red Cross (“CIRC”), we made a monetary donation on behalf of our clients. The CIRC is a volunteer-based humanitarian organisation which aims to protect human dignity by helping vulnerable people in crisis, and while CIRC supported Cayman Islands residents through 2020 and beyond, many CIRC programmes were temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions, resulting in months of lost income. The donation supported the CIRC’s ongoing disaster preparedness, pandemic relief resources, the management of over 300 volunteers and many of their other valued initiatives.

Hedge Funds Care Cayman Gala For a number of years, we have proudly been a Golden Heart sponsor of the Cayman Islands chapter of Hedge Funds Care (“HFC”), and despite the cancellation of the annual HFC Cayman event in 2020, we were pleased to make our annual donation to help local charities and organisations focused on raising awareness about child abuse.

The humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross provide comfort and hope to so many during their times of need. Thank you for your commitment to this critically important work.

The Cayman Food Bank The Cayman Food Bank is an essential organisation that works to alleviate hunger and malnutrition in the Cayman Islands. At the onset of the pandemic, we made a donation in support of the distribution of healthy food during a critical time. Our donation helped to fund the purchase of a new delivery truck to meet the increased demand and we helped to cover operating expenses and the procurement of food supplies for those in need.

The Pines Retirement Home During 2020, when the elderly in our community were at increased risk due to COVID-19, we selected The Pines Retirement Home for a monetary donation on behalf of our clients. The donation will help to fund the renovation of the Pines’ Elderly Villas, which were constructed in 1990 to provide an independent living option for older persons who are not ready for full residential care in the retirement home. The renovation will give the 30-year-old villas a much needed update, making them more comfortable and accessible for their residents.

At the end of November 2020, and for over 10 years now, ‘Team Maples Elves’ spread holiday cheer to The Pines residents by decorating Christmas trees inside the retirement home and sprucing up the building entrance with festive lights.

Annual Holiday Charity Drives Each December, we participate in an annual holiday drive in the spirit of giving during the season. Our holiday drives have included food drives, toy drives and campaigns such as the Cayman Acts of Random Kindness (“ARK”) Giving is Receiving campaign.

In 2020, our team members came together to support the Cayman Islands Food Bank with a food drive and the Toys for Tots toy drive by Cayman Islands Motorcycle Riders Association.

THE MAPLES GROUP’S DRESS FOR YOUR DAY PROGRAMME US$196,000 The Maples Group’s staff participation programme, Dress for Your Day (“DFYD”), continues to grow year-on-year and we thank everyone for their generous and continued support.

As part of this initiative, employees have the opportunity to contribute CI$10 from their monthly salaries, with the Maples Group matching the total amount donated each month.

In 2020, we donated all funds raised from this initiative to charities and organisations that provided essential services to our community. Our total DFYD donations for 2020 amounted to US$196,000.

Alex Panton Foundation The Alex Panton Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation with the primary objective of raising awareness of mental illnesses affecting children and young adults in the Cayman Islands. Funding supports the Foundation’s Living with Anxiety & Depression Support Group, which features a series of

Through their Reconnect Cayman and Kindness Connects Us initiatives, Cayman Acts of Random Kindness (“ARK”) supports families, vulnerable individuals and those who have become unemployed by providing relief care packages, keeping people connected to power, water and food with Caribbean Utility Company, Water Authority and Foster’s vouchers and gift cards. During lockdown, ARK’s soup kitchen also provided 500 meals per day, six days per week to those in need.

Cayman Islands Crisis Centre

Jasmine

The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (“CICC”) provides support to those in need through its helplines. In addition to supporting its Emergency Shelter, our funding will also support the facilitation of CICC’s Aftercare Programme.

Jasmine is dedicated to providing dignified medical, emotional and compassionate care, free of charge, to anyone in the Cayman Islands with life-limiting or end-of-life illnesses. Their major annual Big Bash fundraiser was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19 but Jasmine continued to deliver lunches and care to their at-home patients.

Cayman Islands Veterans Association The Cayman Islands Veterans Association is a charitable, not-for-profit organisation that seeks to ensure that every ex-service person in the Cayman Islands has someone to whom they can turn for help when they need it. Funds are used locally to provide financial support to veterans and their families for medical bills, utility bills and groceries.

Department of Children & Family Services The Department of Children & Family Services is helping to support 800 individuals in the local community, including the elderly, family groups and foster parents.

Feed Our Future In partnership with the Department of Education and Kiwanis Club of Cayman, Feed Our Future (“FOF”) supported over 400 students across 13 Government Schools through its Home School Lunch Programme.

When school closures were in place, FOF helped over 260 students from the programme by providing meal deliveries, supermarket vouchers and distributing care packages to families. With the reopening of schools in September, FOF’s School Meal Programme was reinstated to support 350 students, offering a lifeline and providing a sense of relief to struggling families.

Kiwanis Club of Cayman In partnership with the Department of Education and Feed Our Future, the Kiwanis Club of Cayman (“Kiwanis”) supported over 400 students across 13 Government Schools through its Home School Lunch Programme. When school closures were in place, Kiwanis helped over 195 children from the programme with meal deliveries and supermarket vouchers for the students and their families. When schools reopened in September, Kiwanis reinstated their Buy a Kid Breakfast initiative, supporting students across eight primary schools island-wide.

Meals on Wheels Meals on Wheels continues to safely deliver meals to over 300 seniors, homebound and disabled members of the community. This vital delivery service also enables important daily check-ins and social interactions.

National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) While the NCVO’s preschools closed, the non-profit organisation continued to provide meals and support to 55 children who are from low-income families and / or have special needs.

HEALTHCARE

Raising awareness about the various diseases and health issues in the community is an initiative that the Maples Group is eager to support. We sponsor groups aiming to counsel, demystify and promote education on the wide range of health-related topics which affect every demographic of our community.

Support and encourage healthy lifestyles and the well-being of others Have a direct, positive impact on patient care Raise awareness to today’s health issues and help to combat various diseases and health disparities

Cayman Islands Cancer Society – STRIDE Against Cancer As both a gold and water stop sponsor, we are proud to have made our annual donation towards the fight against cancer.

The 2020 STRIDE Against Cancer was a recordbreaking event with over 2,000 members of the community taking part, including 45 Team Maples participants. Our volunteers were on hand to pass out water, Gatorade and cheer on runners and walkers.

Here are some of the ways that the Maples Group supported Healthcare in 2020 Alex Panton Foundation The Annual Youth Mental Health Symposium features international and local speakers from various areas on mental health, including persons living with and overcoming a mental health issue, parents, counsellors and mental health service providers showcasing various forms of treatment. It aims to highlight services available to those suffering with mental health issues and to discuss topics related to youth mental health.

We are proud to support such a critical organisation helping to break any stigma and support those affected by mental illness.

The Maples Group believes in the ability of sports to develop focus, commitment, leadership and discipline in our youth, enhance self confidence and self esteem and bring our community together. We actively promote sports initiatives in the Cayman Islands and work with a variety of organisations to develop appropriate instructional, developmental and competitive programmes for their needs.

Provide a healthy and active lifestyle Help to develop focus, confidence, teamwork, commitment and discipline in the youth of the Cayman Islands Provide a safe environment to engage in extracurricular activities to develop toward a more productive and responsible adulthood

Here are some of the ways that the Maples Group supported Sports in 2020 Cayman Islands Aquatic Swimming Association For more than eight years, we have been a title sponsor of the Cayman Islands Aquatic Swimming Association (“CIASA”), formerly the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association, providing an annual contribution to help CIASA swimmers achieve their goals. Our ongoing partnership with CIASA translates both to the individual success of their athletes and to the continued development of competitive and artistic swimming in the Cayman Islands.

There are swimmers today who, with our support and CIASA’s training, will go on to represent the Cayman Islands on the international stage in years to come, bringing further recognition to the Cayman Islands and a sense of community pride in our nation’s athletes.

Established in 1986, CIASA is a volunteer, notfor-profit association dedicated to furthering the interests of all aquatic sports in the Cayman Islands including pool and open water swimming, artistic swimming and water polo. Current programmes are available for young swimmers from the age of six and up to adults of all ages. CIASA is the recognised Governing Body of aquatic sports in the Cayman Islands and is a member of international swimming and aquatics associations.

As a long-standing supporter of the Cayman Islands Little League, we are particularly drawn to their focus on providing free programmes that bring the youth from across the schools and districts together to participate in team sports.

Cayman Islands Little League and Field of Dreams In 2020, we forged a new partnership with the Cayman Islands Little League (“CILL”) and the YMCA to support the much needed renovation of the Field of Dreams. As a Field Sponsor for one of the four fields, our donation will greatly assist with the renovation project.

CILL was established in 1990 and provides children from all socioeconomic backgrounds with the opportunity to spend the summer months participating in organised baseball and softball activities.

SUPPORTING COMPETITIVE AND ARTISTIC SWIMMING IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS

Cayman Rugby Football Union As a major partner of the Cayman Rugby Football Union (“CRFU”), we are proud to be the main sponsor of the National Rugby Outreach Programme since 2009, known as the Maples Group Community Junior Rugby and the Maples Group Youth Development Academy programmes.

The programmes aim to introduce rugby to school children across the various Cayman Islands districts, enabling them to learn the game and focus on a sporting activity outside of school.

Since then, the popularity of the programme has grown considerably and continues to be offered on Saturdays between October and May for children aged between 3-16 years old.

CAYMAN ISLANDS LITTLE LEAGUE AND THE YMCA FORGE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MAPLES GROUP

The CRFU is the governing body of rugby union football in the Cayman Islands and administers and delivers rugby programmes island-wide.

In addition to the Maples Group Youth Rugby Programme, they also offer national age grade academies and coaching programmes for children aged 3-19 years old.

YOUTH & EDUCATION

As an organisation, it is our inherent obligation to underscore the importance of education and invest in the next generation of leaders. We focus on education assistance, skills development and support organisations and initiatives providing educationfocused programmes that prepare individuals for a productive and bright future.

Our commitment to education is a fundamental principle and philosophy of the Maples Group. In addition to our own education efforts, we are proud to support exemplary education-oriented organisations and seek out sponsorship opportunities that: • • • •

Enrich the development of the youth Support the development and aspirations of young people Help to open a world of learning opportunities and advancements to individuals Equip, train, mould and shape youth toward a more productive and responsible adulthood

2020 was an especially demanding year for young people and students as COVID-19 impacted learning and home environments, globally.

Here are some of the ways that the Maples Group supported Youth & Education in 2020 United World College Cayman Islands Since 2006, we have been an annual donor to United World College Cayman Islands Foundation (“UWC”) and have supported over 80 Caymanians attending United World Colleges around the world.

Our annual donation helps UWC Cayman provide financial assistance to Caymanian UWC scholars in order to cover essential costs such as tuition and accommodation.

We are proud to have once again supported the Junior Achievement programme and to work with local high school students to provide a fun but practical opportunity to learn the basic concepts of running a small business.

Junior Achievement We were delighted to once again have our team members take part in the 2019 / 2020 Junior Achievement (“JA”) programme. Nine individuals from the Group volunteered as business mentors to 11 local high school students in the programme.

During the 18-week programme, local high school students formed small businesses to create and produce their own products with the assistance of corporate volunteers who act as business mentors and advisors. Each student-run company elects a president and vice president and forms a board of directors to help make real-life strategic business decisions for their company.

We are grateful for this donation which allows us to add a second staff member for the first time in our eight year history. This will help to manage over 150 volunteers and enable us to expand our programmes in response to the global pandemic’s impact on students in the Cayman Islands.

With sustainability and recycling as their ethos, Eco developed handmade holiday bows using old magazines and bottle top coasters that were paired with handmade newspaper bags with each sale. Their products were sold at various venues, including the annual Agriculture Show and the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Red Sky at Night.

Eco was one of the companies formed under the guidance of our volunteers and proudly collected President of the Year (Monecia Tatum) and the Leadership Award (Monecia Tatum) at the 2019 / 2020 JA virtual awards ceremony.

The Leadership Award is presented following a formal presentation on either a global or Cayman Islands current issue. 10 students are selected out of the 200 plus applicants to deliver a presentation before Government officials, the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement and other community business partners.

The new team member will support the expansion of LIFE’s programmes, which have become increasingly important in the recent home-schooling environment, including online classes and resources designed to help parents engage in their child’s literacy.

100 Women in Finance - GirlForce 100 Programme We are very proud to be a long-standing supporter of the 100 Women in Finance (“100WF”) Pre-Career Initiative, a strategic partnership with the Cayman Islands Ministry of Education and part of the 100WF Impact Collective. The Maples Group has a number of our team members actively involved as founding members, global board members, local committee participants and programme mentors. 100WF PreCareer Initiative provides career mentoring and support to young women interested in careers in the finance industry. Since the programme’s inception in 2015, it has expanded to over 10 local high schools and colleges, supporting 130 mentees actively paired with mentors from within the 100WF network. In 2020, to ensure students had the ability to continue their studies online, we were delighted to further support the programme’s technological needs with the donation of new laptops to students of John Gray High School and Clifton Hunter High School. The Maples Group continues to partner with 100WF PreCareer Initiative to provide support for local young women looking to build careers in the finance industry.

Rotaract Blue Cayman Islands Rotaract Blue Cayman in partnership with the Department of Children and Family Services launched their Put Your Best Foot Forward initiative in 2015 to help provide local children with school shoes.
