Armed Robbery at INCREDIBLE ROBBERS BUSTED FAST! Tshipi-Noto Heidelberg!

On Sunday, January 22, the store supervisor and his three employees at Incredible Connection at Heidelberg Mall were robbed at gun point by six unknown suspects.

The suspects took along with them laptops, Ipads, Cameras and Tablets with estimated value of R1 million.

Heidelberg Police released an alert of suspects driving off in a Brown Kia SUV, heading towards the townships in Ekurhuleni.

Later in the day, police managaed to apprehend the suspects. Two unlicensed firearm with serial numbers filed off and 18 ammunition rounds were found.

Suspects have apppeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court for possession of suspected stolen properties and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to police, the robbery docket will join the possession charges.

On Wednesday afternoon of January 25, employees of Tshipi Noto Funeral Home were robbed of undisclosed amount of cash, and other valuables at gun point.

It is alleged that the suspect entered and pointed one of the employee with a gun demanding money.

A 34 year old police constable stationed at Presidential Protection Services attached to VIP Unit in Pretoria arrested for five counts of Rape cases on Wednesday night, January 25.

Through information and the thorough effective investigations by D/W/O Rudy Jansen from Ekurhuleni East Cluster Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit lead to the suspect, who was on duty at the time of the arrest.

The South African Further Education & Training Student Association (SAFETSA) sent a letter to the SRC Members in all TVET College on Wednesday, January 18.

According to the student association’s letter, all of South Africa’s 256 TVET colleges should shutdown based on numerous reasons mentioned; these include reduction of enrolment, rending results, lack of inservice training opportunities and pending certificates since 2012.

SAFETSA President and student leader Yonke Twani said that students have been appealing to government since 2012.

Minister of Higher Education, Dr Blade Nzimande addressed the media on outcome

of the engagement held with higher education stakeholders Thursday, January 18.

All TVET colleges will remain closed until SAFETSA gives the SRC member (instructed by SAFETSA) the go ahead to resume with operation.

TVET student leaders say they will not back down on their national shutdown of colleges. Over 700 000 students have enrolled at 50 colleges and the numbers are rising.

Scores of disgruntled Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students have been protesting at colleges across the country this week. They are calling for

better leadership, qualified lecturers and for the long-standing backlog of certificates to be resolved.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher Education has pleaded with students not to protest, but to allow the department to engage with the relevant institutions.

The Departments of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and Telecommunications and Postal Services were called to Parliament in 2014 where they acknowledged the crisis at TVET colleges.

The presentation by DHET attributed the certificates backlog to a “lack of human resources capacity and technical expertise.”

In a statement last week (see Mapepeza Issue #2), Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande said there was “considerable progress” made at the TVET colleges taken over by the department just over two years ago.

Nzimande said government funded 256,904 students at TVET colleges at a cost of R2.3 billion last year.

He noted that a lot needed to be done to rectify the students’ concerns. “We are aware that there is still a way to go until the institutions are at peak performance.

The repo rate will remain unchanged at 7%, Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago said on Tuesday, January 24.

In announcing the decision, Kganyago said the MPC remains focused on the medium- to longer-term inflation outlook, but that the deterioration of the shorter-term outlook requires increased vigilance.

The central bank took note that year-on-year inflation rate, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), came in at 6.8% in December, which was a “surprising” number up from 6.6 % in November.

The December outcome surprised on the upside relative to the bank’s forecast and the market consensus expectation of 6.5%.

On Thursday, January 26, the Executive Mayor of Lesedi Local Municipality Cllr.

Lerato Maloka awarded bursaries to about 20 less fortunate and deserving matriculants of the class of 2016.

Numerous matriculants of the class of 2016 residing within the Lesedi Local Municipality came knocking at the office of the Executive Mayor seeking assistance with their registrations fees to further their studies in 2017.

The majority of the beneficiaries come from disadvantaged backgrounds where parents cannot afford to provide and assist due to the status of the economy and its imbalance.

These bicycle recipients/learners were selected and underwent a road safety programme led

by Lesedi Local Municipally Traffic Department to ensure that once they are on the road they will abide by the rules of the road and cycle safely.

Each bicycle was presented with a helmet and a security chain.

Pres. Trump puts America first!

US President Donald Trump delivered his inaugural address promising, as he did throughout his campaign, to put "America first”.

Trump's populist speech on Friday (January 20) took square aim at a political establishment his candidacy was built to upend.

He spoke in broad terms about an America in decline, suffering from lecherous politicians and a focus on helping the world before securing its own citizens' welfare.

"This American carnage stops right here and right now," he said.

The inaugural address lasted about 15 minutes and was delivered to tens of thousands of onlookers filling one end of the National Mall.

President Trump pledged his presidency would return power to the people in that crowd and across the country who voted him into office.

"We are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people. For too long a small group in our nation's capital has reaped the rewards of government while people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but people did not share in the wealth. Their victories have not been your victories. Their tri-

umphs have not been your triumphs."

"That all changes starting right here and right now," Trump said. "Because this moment is your moment. It belongs to you."

Speaking to the rest of the world, President Trump promised to seek "friendship" but cautioned all decisions and all relations would continue to be judged by what is best for Americans, regardless of consequence.

"We've defended other nations' borders while refusing to defend our own and spent trillions and trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay.

“We've made other countries rich, while [our] wealth, strength and confidence has dissipated over the horizon," President Trump said. "From this day forward a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward it's going to be only American first, America first."

Trump, was sworn in as the 45th US President on Friday amid protests across the US. Over one million people took to the streets and staged rallies across the US to protest against him.

Teachers in the area attend curriculum aligned workshops and learners are subject to closed programmes such as Project A and Project 2019. These two projects nurture learners over a number of years in the �elds of Mathematics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Sciences as well as Accounting to ensure that schools and learners achieve quality results in line with university entrance requirements. The Sub-Region performed above national, provincial and regional averages in 2016 with �ve out of the six circuits registering a performance higher than the previous three years, proving the e�ectiveness of these programmes.

A Grade 12 Merit Award ceremony, in partnership with Sasol, was held on 13 January 2017 where top performing learners and teachers were recognised. Learners received a cash amount towards their tertiary registration fees/studies and teachers involved in the Osizweni bursary programme were also awarded for their year-on-year performance. During 2016 Osizweni supported 32 teachers through its teacher bursary scheme with three teachers completing Post Graduate Certi�cates in Education, three completing Bachelors in Education degrees and four completing Masters in Education degrees. Osizweni believes that investing in teacher development is a sustainable method towards improving the classroom experience for learners.
