That’s according to Science and Technology Minister, Naledi Pandor, who paid tribute to the late SACP leader during the annual Chris Hani lecture on Friday, 8 April at Boksburg Civic Centre.

On Friday, April 8, the Chris Hani Memorial lecture kick-started the month long activities aimed at preserving Hani’s memory.

The City of Ekurhuleni had officially dedicated the month of April to celebrating Hani’s life.

“Chris was a leader and servant of our people who demonstrated great love for us, South Africa and life in general. He was a charismatic leader, with significant support among the radical anti-apartheid youth.

“He understood that the revolutionary forces were not strong enough to defeat the South African state outright, but that the combination of armed and mass struggle could together force a negotiated solution that would move the overall freedom struggle many important steps forward,” said Pandor.

Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele addressed the annual wreath laying ceremony on Sunday, April 10, at Thomas Nkobi Memorial Park in Boksburg, where a memorial has also been erected in the honour of Hani.

In his opening remarks Gungubele said: “We are trying our best in the City to deal with the triple HHH, housing, health and hunger ideals. Just this

morning we opened a multimillion rand clinic.”

The newly-launched Villa Lisa clinic operates on the eHealth system and is a Free WiFi hotspot, offering 250MB per device.

About 52 clinics in Ekurhuleni are operating on e-Health. This system makes sure that the days of clinics and hospitals need your old medical papers.

It also eliminates the need to show all medical history record, as the will be stored electronically; accessed by any Ekurhuleni clinics or hospital.

Delivering the day’s keynote address, ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says late SACP leader Chris Hani will be at the heart of the battle to save the ANC from self-destruction.

Mantashe says Hani will be disappointed to see the ANC faced with so many challenges.

Mantashe also warned party members not to succumb to pressure from the opposition forces.

Higher Education Minister and SACP General Secretary, Blade Nzimande, has warned against abuse of the country's territorial integrity by some influential business people.

He says South Africa cannot allow what he calls the illicit doings of the Gupta family.

The City has also prepared a ground breaking onehour long theatre production showcasing Hani’s efforts in realising his HHH ideals which stands for Housing, Health and Hunger.

The theatre production will take place at the Springs Theatre on Sunday 24 April.

Furthermore, the City will have photographic exhibitions, essay and drawing competitions for primary school learners portraying the life and times of Chris Hani set to run until the end of April in 45 of Ekurhuleni libraries.

On Wednesday, April 13, Laer Volkskool Heidelberg kids had a fun with the local SAPS policemen and women, who gave them handed snacks, sweets donated by local businesses in Heidelberg.

MAYOR TAKES AIM AT STATE OF THE CITY!

Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Cllr Mondli Gungubele is set to give his final State of the City address.

Scheduled to take place at the Tsakane Stadium on Wednesday April 20, the speech will be the mayor’s last for this term of office which dates to 2011.

“This is the mayor’s final address before the elections in August. When this administration took office in 2011, the people gave us a mandate to among others improve their socioeconomic conditions. It is therefore proper that we account on this mandate and inform the voters on what we were able to do, where we are, where we are going and what challenges we have experienced in the past five years,” mayoral spokesman Zweli Dlamini said.

Since the recent launch of eHomeAffairs by President Jacob Zuma, 4088 citizens have made their online applications for IDs and passports.

The initiative, in partnership with the four major banks -- ABSA, FNB, Nedbank and Standard Bank -- allow South Africans to apply for documents in the comfort of their own home.

On Tuesday April 12, two suspects arrested for hijacking a Ford Ranger along the R550 Nigel road, belonging to 63 year old man. A silver VW Polo signalled lights at the victim to stop off the side of the road. When he did, the suspects climbed out of their car and asked for directions to Standerton.

They can then visit their local banks to submit their photos and have their fingerprints processed for their applications. They will also be able to collect their IDs and passports at kiosks set up in the banks.

Of the 4088 applications, 140 were successfully concluded across the four banks.

Briefing the media on the applications, on Wednesday, Home Affairs Director General Mkuseli Apleni said on the first day, 229 applications were received, on the second day, 1687 applications were received, on the third day there was a slight drop as 189 applications were received, on the fourth day 162, on the fifth day 1001 applications and yesterday 730 applications were received.

Apleni said currently there are appointments booked until the end of April.

“The beauty of the system is that citizens who choose this facility do not have to queue in offices. Home Affairs would then be freed to attend speedily to other clients, thus confirming our promise that the days of the horror affairs are over.

“We trust that the new eHomeAffairs initiative will assist greatly to reduce long queues in front offices while accelerating the replacement of Greenbarcoded ID books with Smart ID Cards,” he said.

Apleni said the department is currently engaging the Banking Association of South Africa (BASA) to develop and engage a model for further rollout to other banks like Capitec and the African Bank.

“With better, faster and more secure services, people have more reasons to celebrate freedom.

“We are satisfied that the online system is functioning very well with clients appreciating its efficiency and the shortest time they have to spend in the banks for capturing of biometrics,” Apleni said.

He said although the department’s offices opens on a weekend, officials deployed at the banks do not work on Sundays.

“We are looking at extending services on Sundays,” he said.

To date, the online system has been rolled out to 11 bank branches, mostly in Gauteng and one in the Western Cape.

In terms of the United Nations resolution no 4 of the first United Nation Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names, every country has sovereign right to standardize its geographical names. South Africa has exercised that authority since 1939, through the National Place Names Committee (NPNC), which served as an advisory body to the then Minister National Education (on issues pertaining international standard and cultural concerns). After 1994, in response to the recommendations in the White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage of 1996, a Working Forum on Geographic Names Change was established.

The above subsequently gave birth to the establishment of South African Geographical Names Council (SAGNC). This Council is an advisory body that advises the Minister of Arts & Culture on transformation and standardization on geographical names in South Africa.

Through Section 2(2) (a) of the South African Geographical Names Council Act, 118 of 1998, a Provincial Geographic Name Change Committee was established. This Committee was positioned to investigate and resolve local name challenges and ensure that municipalities establish Local Geographic Names Committee to facilitate the process.

Liverpool F.C are the under-13 winners of the Community Games football tournament, held at Ratanda stadium on Sunday, March 28.

Under-15 champions, Flowers F.C, received medals to celebrate their victory at the Gauteng Community Games soccer tournament on Sunday, March 10.

Bokamoso F.C were the champions in the Under-17 catagory of the Gauteng Community Games, hosted by the Lesedi Sports Council at the Ratanda staduim.

t is said that something well planned is 50% done. If this holds true, then I wonder why so many of us do not make an effort to plan our business activities in advance.

To my mind there are numerous reasons why continuous business planning is advisable or even non-negotiable.

• It gives you a snapshot of the future state of the business. It creates an image of future possibilities in your mind’s eye.

• It helps you to develop targets/goals which, if managed to completion, will enable the anticipated future state of the business.

• When targets/goals are set you can optimally allocate business resources by answering the following five questions: 1. What needs to be done?

2. How should it be done?

3. Who should take responsibility to get the task done?

4. When should the task be finished (deadline)?

5. How much funding is required to get the task done?

When targets/goals are set, continuous monitoring of progress and the reaching of milestones are very helpful to make adjustments along the way.

Priorities and resource allocation can be adjusted to ensure delivery on the target or achievement of the goal.

Client feedback and market insights can also serve as elements to inform the optimal implementation of the plan of action.

A written plan of action serves as a mechanism to align management and employee actions towards the common target/goal. “Everybody is on the same page.”

RED AND READY: Loyal SACP members came in large numbers from around the country to celebrate the life and legacy of Chris Hani at Thomas Nkobi Memorial Park in Elspark, Boksburg.

ANC NEC member and Science and Technology minister, Naledi Pandor, gave a heart-felt lecture address in memory of Chris Hani on Friday, April 8. The minister mostly spoke on the history of the life of Chris, including the three issues to the Legacy of Chris Hani.

“Chris commitment to service mean he would have insisted on honest management of public resources and a full commitment by all public office bearers that all conduct should be directed at the effort to alter the condition of all the people for the better.We who remain must strive to restore discipline and robust attention to the massive development challenges that confront SA and the ANC. “ said Pandor.

AMANDLA!: Higher Education minister and SACP president, ‘Blade’ Nzimande, addresses the masses at the wreath-laying ceremony. Blade strongly condemned anyone participating in ‘state capture’ activities and plots.

Also, he called upon ANC and its alliances to remember the infamous ‘Hani Memorandum,’ a combination of views about the internal problems facing the alliances and its leadership - reported courageously by comrade Chris and other ANC cadres during O.R Tambo’s presidency.
