TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT CENTRE LAUNCHED! ON Thursday, March 24, City of Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Cllr Mondli Gungubele officially opened the innovative Transport Management Centre (TMC) in Kempton Park; which will manage traffic flow, public transport, safety and security in the metro.

The R16-million state-of-the-art TMC will start monitoring all the existing Ekurhuleni bus services, which will form part of the Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network (IRPTN), by the end of March 2016, says Gungubele.

“As the public transport network grows, we will add the additional buses to the monitoring process. The intention is to equip all the new buses with Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) devices to enable the staff at the TMC to monitor the movement of the buses,” says Gungubele.

While the TMC will create an additional 16 employment opportunities, the high-tech centre will host two major Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), namely the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system and the Advance Public Transport Management System (APTMS). This system also comprises the payment of fees to the Vehicle Operating Company (VOC) for services rendered.

BUA LE SECHABA SESSION HITS RATANDA!

ON Wednesday, March 16, The Bua le Sechaba Feedback Session was held Ratanda Multi-purpose Centre. The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s COGTA (Cooperative Governance and Tradional Affairs) & Human Settlements Portfolio Committee assembled a Bua le Sechaba Feedback Session for the people of Lesedi Local Municipality and Sedibeng District Municipality.

Led by Honourable Chairperson, Mr Mohatla Tseki, the committee members highlighted what problems have been identified within the areas including matters related to service delivery, housing and EPWP. The main objective of the meeting was to report back to the people of Gauteng on progress made in addressing Human Settlements issues, concerns and challenges raised by the people of Gauteng during the Bua Le Sechaba Campaign held by the Portfolio Committee in March 2015.

The Portfolio Committee initially embarked on a research exercise targeting communities in the Devon; Endicott; Jameson Park; and Ratanda areas. The data collection exercise was undertaken so the Research Report can assist the Portfolio Committee when resolutions are taken and recommendations made on the state of housing service delivery in these areas amongst others.

The 2nd feedback session provided a platform for the Government to provide feedback on progress made in addressing the identified service delivery challenges. A number of these challenges related to the governance of Lesedi Local Municipality.

The committee promised to intervene and assist the municipality in tackling service delivery-related problems head-on.

THA BUSINESSMAN found this piece of useful advice from fellow entrepreneur, Brad Shorkend.

These are the definite ways to start with nothing to lose by aiming to win regardless of how small you are.

Remember, the idea is the main thing. Opportunities can be found just around the corner, any corner.

Too often entrepreneurs spend time planning the finer details of their business before figuring out whether or not they have a product or service that will actually sell.

Here’s brad’s list of WHAT NOT TO DO before starting a business: 1. Don’t quit your day job.

First scout the market, talk to potential buyers and have someone you don’t know pay for your product/service. Nine times out of ten, what you thought was going to be a hit in the marketplace is a dud.

2. Don’t try to find a partner.

Don’t partner with someone for sales assistance. If you, the inventor of your product/service can’t sell it… no one will.

3. Don’t waste time talking about your future business.

Don’t be ‘all talk, no action’. Every minute spent telling someone about your future business is one less minute you have to find potential buyers and refine your product/service.

4. Don’t rent an office. Work from home.

It won’t require a security deposit and it’s tax deductible.

5. Don’t hire an attorney/lawyer.

Unless you’re in jail, someone else’s attorney contacts you, or its growth and expansion time – an attorney won’t tell you anything you don’t already know, or can’t figure out in a bookstore.

6. Don’t get a loan.

This will require you to do too many items on this list of what NOT to do before starting a business… besides, getting a loan means you will work for the bank and not for yourself!

7. Don’t hire anyone.

Do everything you can yourself, for everything else, use contractors.

8. Don’t try to patent anything.

It takes about three, five and up to 10 years to get a patent. Who knows what the market will look like by then?

9. Don’t design a logo, business card etc.

You are your own brand. You don’t need a logo before you start.

10. Don’t buy any equipment.

Outsource everything, borrow some from family and friends. Things like cars and computers have to be constantly maintained and replaced, do you have that kind of money right now?

11. Don’t buy office supplies.

If you need a pencil, get one out of the kitchen. You are working from home, aren’t you?

12. Don’t get a bank account.

Your personal banking account will work just fine in the early stages if someone wants to write you a cheque, or if you need to pay for something.

13. Don’t join the Chamber of Commerce.

Chambers of Commerce provide great networking opportunities. However, right now your priority should be to sell. Plus, you can always go as a visitor.

14. Don’t write a business plan.

Sure you need to know what you’re going to do and how you’re going to make money, but don’t waste time formatting it into a structured plan too early.

15. Don’t get a business telephone number or postal address. You have a cellphone, use it. If someone needs to post you something, have them send it to your house.

THE BIG TIP TO GET IN THE GAME:

Too many people have had great ideas, did nothing with them, and then saw someone else have great success with that very idea.

It’s only yours if you make it happen!
