The newly erected traffic lights will benefit motorist and pedestrians with effective coordination of traffic lights and thus improve traffic flow, reducing travel time and travel cost,” said Arthur Thokoane, lesedi Municipality spokesperson. The municipality condemns vandalism and theft of traffic lights and appeals to residents to be watchdogs and report any such acts as this averts
the normal movement of vehicles and pedestrians. According to Arthur, the south African road traffic signs Manual indicates that the traffic signals are a valuable tool used for the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians. “The sArts manual implies that there has to be a correct real time synchronization of coordinated signals, correct phase sequencing and timing, and old traffic lights were not fulfilling the manual indication,” he added.
