The newly erected traffic lights will benefit motorist and pedestrians with effective coordination of traffic lights and thus improve traffic flow, reducing travel time and travel cost,” said Arthur Thokoane, lesedi Municipality spokesperson.

The municipality condemns vandalism and theft of traffic lights and appeals to residents to be watchdogs and report any such acts as this averts

the normal movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

According to Arthur, the south African road traffic signs Manual indicates that the traffic signals are a valuable tool used for the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

“The sArts manual implies that there has to be a correct real time synchronization of coordinated signals, correct phase sequencing and timing, and old traffic lights were not fulfilling the manual indication,” he added.

tHe south African national Civic Organisation (sAnCO) is saddened by the deaths of 11 African national Congress (AnC) volunteers that died in a bus accident, on the n1 between Winburg and Ventersburg in the Free state.

The eMPD, bent on cleaning the sidewalks that are obstructed by hawkers, throwing the book at illegal hawkers as well as ensuring that counterfeit goods are removed, raided streets in both Katlehong and tokoza where hawkers ply their trade. A tip off from Fumana learners led to an arrest of an alleged supplier of these drugs – the 18 year old male suspect was apprehended at the

intersection of Mosoeu and Makula streets near lindela train station with a back pack containing thirty-nine (39) Alleset and Thiamine tablets, two packets of dagga and r200 in cash. several other learners who were found in possession of cigarettes, rizzlers (used to roll dagga zolls) and matches were given stern verbal warnings and also given a lecture by an sAPs member from social Prevention Unit accompanied by a local social worker.

The applications period for a spot at a government school will close at midnight on1 June 2016.

All parents are advised to apply online by logging on www.gdeadmissions.gov.za. The department released a step-by-step guide to the registration process.

The department said the placement of learners will commence from 24 June until 25 July 2016. During this period, schools will process learner placement online.

The eMPD various combined units swooped on Boksburg north and Central Business District on Thursday, April 14 wherein a total of 81 undocumented persons were arrested for being in south Africa illegally.

The special operation focused mainly on Boksburg north hotel and houses in 1st street.

All the arrestees were charged in terms of section 41 of the immigration Act no. 23 of 2002 at Boksburg Central and Boksburg north police stations and appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 15 April.

The arrest was done on Thursday afternoon (21 April) at Aston Place flats in Kempton Park. The 46 year old male suspect was charged with possession of illicit substances as well as suspected drugdealing at Kempton Park police station. He is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.

On Wednesday, April 13, sasol officially handed over a 65 years anniversary celebration project to eMdibini Combined school. The school is situated in the Govan Mbeki Municipal area, on Grootpan Farm, Kinross. in 2015, sasol initiated the sasol for Good employee volunteerism programme with education as a focus area to enable employees to become values-led citizens who care, act and create value both at work and in communities. As part of this programme, sasol employees in partnership with Gull Air Projects volunteered their time and expertise to refurbish the eMdibini school. Activities such as roof repairs, painting of classrooms and the exterior of the school, gutter installation, resurfacing of walkways and assembly area were completed.

Hatred in its manifestation will always bring about division, separation and the absence of love amongst our diverse countrymen. Hatred is not a permanent ability someone is born with like acquiring talents, meaning that our hatred does not come naturally. It came as a lesson to our people, and they all learnt it.

If our people can learn to hate as part of their nature, what can we discover when we NATURALLY embrace the teaching of love. We are all born with love and of love, because God is love.

All races and natural life is from love.

All unnatural hate is from people’s ignorance of the love all around us!

eKUrHUleni Mayor announces new city design through corridor development ekurhuleni executive Mayor Mondli Gungubele outlined bold steps to grow the economy of the city and create jobs.

Addressing the ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipal Council at Faranani Multipurpose Centre in tsakane and guests at the overflow area at the adjacent stadium on Wednesday morning, April 20; Gungubele outlined the three corridors of development to drive the economy of the city in areas such as logistics, manufacturing, education, trade, construction and hospitality.

“The approach of building a new city and an identity means that a significant proportion of this administration’s time was vested in the development of spatial development frameworks.

This new city design has led to the conceptualisation of an effective way to reconfigure our urban spaces, and economic centres, along three key functional economic corridors,” Gungubele said.

These corridors are:

which concentrates development in a straight line from tembisa to Vosloorus including all surrounding areas along the corridor. The main driver, for economic development in this corridor, is high level roads and transport infrastructure.

The developments in this area will have mixed land uses that include industry as well as human settlements located nearby. The city is taking a new approach to densify the provision of houses through building high rise residential units including flats for both rDP, rental and or buying through bank loans.

The Brakpan old location development, for instance, would have yielded 2500 units but will now give us 11 598 units as part of this policy.

“This new approach will lead to a quantum leap in housing development in ekurhuleni enabling us to efficiently accommodate more people and provide more livable human settlements with a full basket of services and social amenities such as schools, clinics and public transport,” Mayor Gungubele said.

The Mayor also touched on the service delivery programme for the past five years which saw all townships now having their own fire station; the rollout of free WiFi to 900 hotspots; introduction of e-Health in 40 clinics to shorten waiting time and remove the need to open files if your details are on the system; as well as investing over r2.7 billion in roads and stormwater infrastructure.

The call centre continues to be a single point of contact for residents to report service interruptions; the Harambee bus is on track to roll out from July in tembisa, our CDBs are kept clean through the inner City night Cleaning programme and clean neighbourhood Fridays continue; and ekurhuleni continues to have clean water attaining the Blue Drop status once again.

He said the work done in the last five years in improving the management of its finances, reporting on service delivery and compliance to legislation was rewarded by the two back-to-back clean audits.

The national Orders Awards are the highest form of acknowledgement that south Africa bestows on distinguished and foreign nationals to recognise the sacrifices and contributions that they have made towards building a free, united, nonracial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous south Africa as envisaged in the Constitution.

The awards also celebrate achievements and sacrifices, and also contribute towards unity and nation building.

• Maqashu Leonard Mdingi: For his excellent contribution to the liberation struggle and steadfast belief in the equality of all who lived in south Africa. His conviction spurred him to distant lands to enlist with the anti-apartheid organisations and push back against the tyranny of racism.

The Order will be bestowed in silver on: • Brian Francis Bishop (Posthumous): For his excellent contribution to the liberation struggle and fighting the tyranny of the oppressive state. He gave his life for the liberation of the people of south Africa.

• Ulysses Modise (Posthumous): For his excellent contribution to the struggle for the liberation of the people of south Africa.

He selflessly left his loved ones for exile where he devoted his military skills to fight the apartheid regime.

• Msizi Harrison Dube (Posthumous): For his excellent contribution to the struggle for liberation, and his persistent pursuit of justice and better living conditions for his community and the people of south Africa in general.

• Peter Sello Motau aka Paul Dikeledi (Posthumous): For his excellent contribution to the liberation struggle. His selfless sacrifice, bravery and thirst for freedom led to democracy at the ultimate cost of his own life.

• Rev Dr Simon Gqubule: For his excellent contribution to the liberation struggle and in the field of education and religion.

His inherent belief in equality prompted him to join the United Democratic Front (UDF) to speak truth to the power that was evil and oppressive apartheid power.

• Wilson Ndaliso Boy Ngcayiya aka Bogart Soze (Posthumous): For his excellent contribution to the fight for the liberation of this country. He courageously placed his life in constant danger, inspired by a solid conviction that one day south Africa will be free from oppressive apartheid rule.

• Mr Joseph "Mpisi” Nduli (Posthumous): For his excellent contribution to the fight for the liberation of the people of south Africa. His steadfast belief in the equality of all citizens inspired him to fight until democracy was realised.

• Sam Ntuli (Posthumous): For his excellent contribution in the field of peace-building during a particularly violent and delicate time in the history of the liberation struggle. He paid the ultimate price for his dedication to peace.

• Dr Sizakele Sigxashe (Posthumous): For his excellent contribution in the fight against the oppression of the people of south Africa. His bravery and courage of convictions saw him leave his home and loved ones into distant lands to fight for the freedom that is enjoyed today.

Greetings. Week number 6 of Basics, THA BUSINESSMAN provides another article written by Jannie Rossouw, Head: Sanlam Business Market in 2015.

This inspired the direction of some of the successful ventures I have invested my resorces in. For all new and old businesspeople and organization managers.

I

am stating the obvious when I say that before we can meet and exceed the expectations of our clients, we first have to determine and re-examine what their real needs are. Once we have a crystal clear and factually-based perspective on this, we can determine if our products and services are meeting the identified needs and wants of our target market.

Client needs and wants are ambiguous, the competitor landscape changes all the time and innovations can make our solutions redundant overnight. For this reason we need to stay on top of our game. Target market, client and competitor insights are core to our future survival and ability to compete for a share of client wallet.

This calls for a market review where current clients are assessed to improve our understanding w.r.t. the following elements (these are only a couple of examples): • Their demographics (age, gender, marital status, income etc.)

• Their purchase motives (price, quality, location, guarantees and warrantees etc.)

• When they buy • The previous purchases from our business which inform their past buying patterns Once we have an informed understanding of our clients, we can conduct a product/service review. Here are a couple of elements to evaluate: • Which products and/or services are our “champion sellers”?

• Why are these products or services so successful?

• Can they be improved?

• Which products sell best and have the highest profit margins?

• Can you optimise your operations around these products and services (service delivery, upsell opportunities, special deals)?

• Do you need to change or improve your product pricing, packaging, marketing and service delivery to meet the changing needs of clients?

With this information in hand, we need to match our current product and service offering to client needs and expectations. This might also impact our quality control mechanisms and pricing conventions.

Another crucial element to address, is knowing what your competition is doing. See what they say about themselves (sales material, advertisements, press releases, websites). Your sales staff, customers, www. hellopeter.co.za, newspapers and market research companies can also be good sources of information regarding your competitors.

It is said that “knowledge is power”. This is also true in business where we want to meet and exceed client expectations. Knowledge will enable us to create insights that can assist us in improving our product and service offering to attract more clients and also outperform our competition.

The story of Tryphinah Kheswa from Sebokeng’s Zone 3.

Well-known around the community for her inspiring work in teaching and counselling, Tryphina Tazi Kheswa, also known as ‘T.T”, has transitioned to becoming an author and poet.

Tryphina has worked in education most of her life.

She was an educator and principal in five different schools, including some part-time lecturing work at the University of Free-State (UFS). Presently she holds a BA and B.Ed degrees, including two diplomas in Adult Basic Education & Training (ABET) and Secondary Education.

She has dedicated her life in becoming an activist for social change, supporting HIV/AIDS and community-outreach programmes around her area in Sedibeng.

Recently, T.T has published two books titled HIV/ AIDS Poems and What Teachers Can Do. These are inspired by a lifetime of dedicated, selfless attitude Tryphina has placed in all she does. The book HIV/AIDS Poems is a good read for those affected by the pandemic. The poems speak to people who are living with HIV and those living with people who are HIV-positive. Tryphina’s book also inspires the affected to live healthy lives and encourages the HIV-negative people to take the message of ‘abstinence-before-marriage’ and acceptance.

T.T Kheswa is the founder of Sinethemba Street Youth in Sebokeng, including the founding of Evaton’s Tsohang Information & Counselling Centre based at the Evaton police station. She also studied HIV/AIDS and she holds a certificate from Lifeline.

These initiatives are aimed at giving support to the abused, people that are HIV-infected and affected, child-headed households, orphans and foster children amongst other vulnerable groups in the society. Also, candle-light memorials and various other events are done to create much-needed awareness in communities.

The second book, What Teachers Can Do, is a practical guide to educators and learning facilitators in schools to adopt fresh approaches to problem solving. It teaches the teacher on how to handle learners who are in crisis. Predicament events like stigmatization, drug abuse, child-headed families, people affected by HIV/AIDS and abuse is prone amongst children in disadvantaged communities – this book has the right approaches to handling these crisis.

What Teachers Can Do contains evidence-based articles that show the importance of ‘Intervention Strategies’ and ‘Case Studies’ used by teachers on successfully managing learner development. Local stories can empower teachers to deal with the social problems that hinder progress and performance of learners. The book can also be an information-resource guide for community development groups and stakeholders.

Some of the key objectives of Tryphina Kheswa’s books are to empower people, educators in particular, to possess values towards positive growth and to give support to those doing their bid in building our society’s future community-shapers.

HOW TEACHERS CAN GET THESE BOOKS:

Educators from both primary and secondary schools in Gauteng can order the books, HIV/ AIDS Poems and What Teachers Can Do, from the provincial Education Department library catalogues. These books are also necessary to order when selecting any Leaners, Teachers Support Material (LTSM) for schools.

Tryphina has worked as teacher, Head of Department and deputy-principal in five different schools. Also, she was a part-time lecturer at University of Free State.

She received the Life-time Achievement Award at the National Teaching Awards in 2008.

As an activist, she has helped hundreds of abused, vulnerable and infected or affected children around Sedibeng and South Africa. She has headed the Prevention and Palliative Care for Teachers, Orphans and Vunerable Childers (PPCT-OVC) also called the ‘OBAMA Project’

Don’t Quit!

T

oday let me talk to someone who is asking this question, what about me? You are at verge of breaking down or throwing a towel, but let me tell you that no matter how dark and powerful the storm is, certainly the sun will come out again.

Quitting is never an option but an auction of your future and destiny.

Perhaps you are saying there he goes like many others, allow me to tell you that even coca cola sold 25 bottles in their first year but they kept going ; today their success is written on the walls of the world.

You have been applying for that job for so many years now, you have been called for interviews so many times but nothing or you have been trying to pass that course for years but still nothing positive is coming out of that.

The greater the challenge the bigger the blessing, don’t give up yet.

A dog laughed at an elephant for taking so many months before having a baby as oppose to a dog that takes about 68 days to have its babies.

May be they are laughing at you too, saying you have a degree but no job, basheshe bahleka (they laughed early) because something big is coming your way. A dog gives birth to a 10 year life span dog and an elephant gives birth to a 43-45 years long living elephant, my point is that your waiting will bring you greater joy and long lasting happiness ,just don’t quit.

If you were already giving up I plead with you stand up and finish the race you started, you are just about to make it through. Now say the following words “I am a winner and I will never quit”.

Stay focused to your dream and do not give in, challenges are there to make us strong, you are destined for greater things. Just believe! “ Never give up to do good, for you will be rewarded in due time”
