President Cyril Ramaphosa paid tribute on Tuesday 20 February 2018 to President Jacob Zuma for his contribution to South Africa’s development during his nine years in office. President Ramaphosa hosted a farewell cocktail function for President Zuma at The Presidency, Tuynhuys, Cape Town. The occasion was attended by members of Cabinet, Deputy Ministers and Presidency officials. President Zuma wished President Ramaphosa well and expressed his gratitude to Presidency staff for service to the President and the country. A man apparently using a phantom company pretending to be a middle-man for selling of industrial equipment and wanted by the SAPS Commercial Branch for fraud, whose case was registered in July 2015 at Lyttleton police station against him and his son after failing to deliver equipment valued at R6million to the client, was eventually arrested on Wednesday, 14 February in Benoni.

The son, who seemingly conspired with his father in the criminal deed, handed himself over to the police the next day on Thursday, 15 February.

A painstakingly meticulous and protracted investigation by the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit member finally bore fruit when

he verified the wanted suspect’s last available address via the SAPS Profile System.

Once the address was verified that the suspect was in fact residing there on Parrow Road in Crystal Park, the metro police, with the assistance of the Crystal Park Detective Branch pounced on his residence where the suspect was found and arrested.

The 63 year old male suspect was taken to Wierdabrug police station where he was detained on charges of fraud with the son deciding to hand himself over to Wierdabrug police the next day on Thursday, 15 February.

The pair was expected to appear in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on 16 February.

KASI TAVERNS WARNED ABOUT BREAKING TRADING LAWS! Mpumalanga Government toughens liquor licensing laws to curb alcohol abuse in communities!

Alcohol abusers are everywhere in South Africa. It is not a rare thing to see people drunk everyday these days. But where do they get their booze from? Liquor outlets like taverns, pubs and bottle stores who break the rule of law just to make profit.

The Mpumalanga government has organized meetings all over the province’s districts to find out how this issue can be solved.

On Tuesday, February 20 the Dipaleseng Local Municipality,Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, SAPS and the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER) held a consultative meeting with liquor associations, forums and traders

at the Siyathemba community hall. The rules of responsible trading for taverns and liquor spots were pointed out clearly to all who attended.

This engagement was made to discuss the issues faced by Dipaleseng on the rise of illegal bottle stores and taverns. Some of the legally registered taverns and pubs must to adhere to the no sale of alchohol to children under the ages of 18, visibly pregnant women, already intoxicated persons and trading hours. Failure to do so the license holder will be disqualified.

Members of the community and the gener-

al public who have been affected by a liquor outlet may report to designated liquor officer at any police station or the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator.

Upon the receipt of the complaint the license holder must respond within 7-14 days.

The MER states by law that if the liquor license holder is found guilty the board may suspend or cancel any non-compliant liquor store and gambling operators.

How to apply for a liquor licence?

The application procedure for a new liquor licence is as follows: 1.The individual or company must com-

plete the application form provided by the MER (Form 1) 2.Complete a notice (Form 2) to be published in the Provincial Gazzette and in the local newspaper circulating in where the licence will be operated. This notice invites public comments.

3.The application must have the following documents attached: Certified ID copy/ Company certificate, Building plan, proof of advertisement in the Provincial Gazette and a local new newspaper, Municipal comments (annexure 3), proof of payment (EFT copy or bank slip) 4.All the above-mentioned documents must be sent to the Local Municipality offices and will remain there for 30 days, awaiting public comments 5.After the 30 day period, the application together with supporting documents are to be submitted to the MLA for consideration.

Note that all liquor licences are valid for 12 months only. Renewal must be made and is not automatic.

Their program are part of the CBC’s social responsibility to their communities as we also ensuring Katlehong is clean at all times. It is Siphilile Gyms responsibility indeed to deliver a good service to our communities by ensuring all the streets of Katlehong are clean and door to door Waste collection is taken on time.

“On the 1st of March, our roll out is going to change and we will be distributing calendars to our communities to assure them the new dates on which their Waste will be collected and From our side as CBC’s would like to thank Sungu Sungu, CCC and other stakeholders who took their time to assist us to make this day possible hope to add changes to the lives of those who need help.”

Siphilile Gym is a social Responsibility started the Community based contractors (CBC’s) from Katlehong, they hosted an event which gave in assisting senior citizens to open NGO’s and gave them T shirt lunch.

We soon arrange somebody from department of Sports to assist them with training sessions once a week.

“Our aim as CBC’s is to make sure that we bring hope to all NGO program and assist where there is a needs to ensure our society is united.”

RATANDA Ext 23/26 CLINIC HELD AN ANNUAL OPEN DAY

On the 22 February 2018 the Ratanda Ext 23/26 clinic held the annual open day for everyone in the community to come and find information in questions or concerns they have. The event was dedicated to giving awareness to children because many children don’t go to clinic and they never had a medical attention.

The main purpose was to spread the work of health care officials and the community-based organizations. The clinic invited CHAPS to talk to the men about their issues. The community had also benefited from the annual open day many residents have been helped on that day. The AHF, Sister2Sister Ministries and other Ratanda-based healthcare NGO’s were there as well.

Response of the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) on the alleged forced injection of contraceptives on learners at Pitso-Letlhogile School at Phaposane Village, North West Province!

T

he year 2018 moves the country closer to celebrating 25 years of a unified, non-racial, non-sexist, non-discriminatory, free, democratic and prosperous South Africa.

As citizens of the Republic, we pride ourselves on having a Constitution held in the highest esteem internationally. The Bill of Rights enshrines the basic rights and freedoms of all individuals.

As a cornerstone of our democracy, this chapter “affirms the democratic values of human dignity, equality and freedom”.

These should be upheld especially by those who are honoured to call themselves public servants. Public service comes with the encumbent responsibility of discharging your duties in line with the legal, policy and operational prescripts as well as applicable codes of practice for designated professions (for example, the Teacher’s

and Nursing Code of Professional Ethics). There is something seriously wrong if those who should be the vanguards of such prescripts and codes of practice decide to act in ways that are contradictory to them.

It is appalling that we still have incidences of human rights violations as in the case of Grade 12 learners at PitsoLetlhogile High School who were allegedly forced to take contraceptives against their will.

As an institution which envisions a society free from all forms of gender oppression and inequality and furthermore strives to promote, protect, monitor and evaluate gender equality, the CGE denounces this incident. The Commission finds this situation deplorable, unacceptable and unethical. The learners were unfairly discriminated and the laws broken at a number of levels. These can be summed up as:

• Discrimination on the grounds of race, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and age, • Violation of learner’s inherent dignity, • The right to bodily and psychological integrity was not respected, • The right to make decisions concerning reproduction was not protected, • The feeling of security and control over their bodies was breached. They were subjected to medical assessments and treatments without consent. In the case of minors,

mitted diseases among teens; deaths associated with pregnancy and childbirth among 13 to 19-year-old girls; the plague of rape and incest; the scourge of poverty and abuse of young girls for financial rewards; substance abuse; unemployment; underdevelopment and all the societal ills that make the lives of many a toil in the democratic era.

The solution to these problems, unfortunately, does not lie with taking the law unto ourselves and acting in ways that violate the rights of oth-

The change begins with each one of us. Let us occupy every platform available to us and share messaging about the society we seek to create and the values we want to embody as citizens.

CiC Ramaphosa leads Armed Forces Day celebrations!

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the day in which the SS Mendi sank, is a day that allows the country to remember all the men and women who have paid the ultimate price in defence of freedom, peace and justice.

“It reminds us that blood was spilled by many of our people to guarantee us our freedom and dignity.

It is a reminder that honourable and courageous men and women continue to put their lives on the line to secure our peace and defend our Constitution,” President Ramaphosa said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa as the Commander-in-Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) officiated the Armed Forces Day celebrations in Kimberley, Northern Cape on Wednesday, February 21.

Armed Forces Day commemo-

rates the centenary of the sinking of the SS Mendi on 21 February 1917, which became one of South African’s worst tragedies of the First World War (1914-1918).

A total of 616 of South African black troops died when the SS Mendi steamship sank on its way to France.

The SS Mendi ship was transporting 823 members of the 5th Battalion, the South African Native Labour Corps to France, when it was struck by the SS Darro.

A decision was taken in 2012 to proclaim the 21st of February as Armed Forces Day. It commemorated the day in 1917 when the SS Mendi was sunk in World War I. .

NETBALL WEEKEND GAMES IN RATANDA!

The Netball Structure of the Lesedi Local Municipality organized a local netball tournament at the Ratanda Stadium on Saturday, February 17.

The top-three contest of the township’s best teams got underway with the Golden Eagles facing off against Team Extension 23. The game ended 14-5 with the Golden Eagles securing a finale finish.

Chairperson of the Netball Structure, Sibusiso Tshabalala said the sport group is in the process of formalizing the sport in the area. A Lesedi-based netball league might be in the cards, but more teams from other areas like Devon, Heidelberg, Visckuil are needed.

The second game was Letta Stars versus the Court Gods.
