his year has been a year full of activities and events that will lay a foundation for the upcoming year. We have witnessed life-changing moments, projects that play a major role in ordinary lives and real-life stories from our Southern-Gauteng readers.

In 2016, the newspaper will become a multi-media platform, migrating from the original print media to an expanded new digital website.

The printed newspaper will be still going strong, with a promise of more ‘people-centered’ approach to reporting and writing. Mapepeza will start telling the untold stories of ordinary people in this country, supporting all points of view.

Livestock stolen in mamello!

The cattle owners in Mamello (outside Heidelberg) were hit by a three week ambush, four cattle’s were reported missing one cattle was found brutally slaughter on their grassing land approximately a value loss of about R48 000 was suffered by the cattle owners.

On December 9, the watch a neighbour committee of Vaalmarina alarmed the police of stock-theft crime which took place at around 4 a.m, Officer Motsweneg responded to the call of duty, it is reported that the two male suspects flee the scene upon the arrival of the police.

cated, inside the vehicle was two big knifes, a rope, the drivers cell phone.

Information found on the phone lead to the arrest of one male suspect, the driver, however claims that he was hijacked.

Apparently the vehicle had blue signal lights inside and out meanwhile the Community of Mamello report that this bakkie spent more than two days in the township before the night of the incident.

The communication cluster officer Constable Matumise told the Mapepeza reporters that the police will get to the bottom of this tragic loss.

New law to curb infrastructure related crimes

President Jacob Zuma has signed into law the Criminal Matters Amendment Act, which will help to reduce infrastructure-related crimes.

Prevention of Organised Crime Act, 1998, so as to insert a new offence in Schedule 1 to the Act and to provide for matters connected therewith.

The act amends the Criminal Procedure Act of 1977. It will see the introduction of harsher sentences for the destruction of essential property and more stringent bail conditions and applications for vandals.

Meanwhile, President Zuma also signed into law the Disaster Management Amendment Act, 2015 (Act No.16 of 2015).

“The amendments provide for changes to the law pertaining to infrastructure-related offences by making stricter provisions for the granting of bail, the sentencing of offenders and creating a new offence to criminalise damage to, tampering with or destruction of essential infrastructure, which may interfere with the provision of basic services to the public,” the Presidency said on Monday (December 14).

The act also aims to create a new offence relating to essential infrastructure, as well as amend the

The elderly are often isolated and neglected by society.

In reminding them of how precious they are, Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Cllr Mondli Gungubele invited the City’s senior citizens for a Christmas breakfast held at the Germiston Civic Centre on Thursday., December 17.

The elderly citizens from various parts of Ekurhuleni, dined with the Mayor and were showered with gifts of food parcels, blankets and toiletries to be enjoyed during the festive season.

“Today’s breakfast is to say thank

you for your blessings through the past year.

Today we celebrate your lives, not as black or white grandfathers and grandmothers, but as the City’s grandparents who fought for the democratic South Africa we enjoy today,” said Cllr Gungubele.

“We are what we are today because of you and our way of showing gratitude is by striving to continue making you happy through ensuring your living conditions are satisfactory,” he added.

All that 117 year old Gogo Lena Mmola, the oldest guest at the ban-

quet table, could do was give the Executive Mayor a kiss on his hand to show gratitude for the kind gesture of remembering the elderly at this time.

The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development, Cllr Makhosazana Mabaso took the opportunity to thank the care givers who care for the senior citizens and humbly requested that they continue to care for the City’s jewels.

In closing the Mayor wished his guests a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

SEDIBENG GETS ANOTHER CLEAN AUDIT FROM AG

The act seeks to, among others; clarify the policy focus on rehabilitation and functioning of disaster management centres, and to align the functions of the National Disaster Management Advisory Forum to accommodate the South African National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The act will also provide for the South African National Defence Force, South African Police Service and any other organ of State to assist the disaster management structures, strengthen the disaster risk reporting system in order to improve the country's ability to manage potential disasters.

Sedibeng District Municipality today received its third successive 'Clean Audit' from the Auditor-General of South Africa (2014/2015 Financial Year).

In summary, a 'Clean Audit' is an audit opinion of unqualified financial statements with no material findings on the quality of the annual performance report, as well as no findings on non-compliance with key legislation.

During her address to the final sitting of Council for 2015, Mayor Modisakeng also congratulated the Midvaal Local Municipality on their 2nd successive Clean Audit.

Theresa Ramashamola passed away on November 25.

A commitment from Gauteng CoGTA and Human Settlements MEC, Jacob Mamabolo, to eradicate all bucket toilets in the province was fulfilled. On June 3, Ratanda was the last township to be rid of bucket toilet systems in about 60 affected households.

Inspired by Sedibeng’s blanket give-away in Sharpville on Youth Day, Mapepeza Foundation partnered with Lesedi LM and the Roshnee community gave blankets to the elderly community in Ratanda on June 23.
