School Robbers Wanted!

Heidelberg Police opened a Business robbery case after MTN Cell Phone Shop at the Heidelberg Mall. The incident took place on Friday morning, September 15 and police are still looking for suspects.

Heidelberg Police opened a Business burglary and theft case, this after the office roof zinc was cut open with unknown sharp object and items were stolen. The crime took place at Laer Volkskool, north of Heidelberg in the Lesedi region.

It is alleged that a customer and store personel were in the shop when four armed male suspects entered the shop with a security guard.

It is alleged that the School Principal noticed the burglary when they reported on duty in the morning of September 14. Upon Police arrival and checking the crime scene, it was detected that the zinc was cut-off with sharp object and suspects gain entry into the office.

It was also found that a Flat Screen TV and a bottle of Blue Label Whisky were taken.

Whilst they were inside the shop, suspects forced the Manager and his employees to the backroom where there is a Cell Phone Cabinet is placed.

The Manager was pointed with a firearm, threatened and ordered to open the cellphone cabinet. Due to an electronic delay, the suspects managed to take a yellow long sleeve MTN Golf Shirt from the employee. They also tried to check the till unfortunately there was no money.

Suspects got away in a silver VW Jetta with unknown registration number.

Suspects are unknown and police are looking for the guy appearing in the photograph below to assist the Police with the investigations.

Heidelberg Station Commander, Colonel Amanda Dorothy Viljoen, strongly appeals to anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspects or who might be knowing the suspects, should contact nearest Police Station or call SAPS Crime Stop 08600 10111 or sms 32211.

Most recently, security guards at SPAR Heidelberg caught the man pictured trying to steal items at the store. Shoplifting and other business-related crimes are on the rise as we about to enter the Festive season. 18 DRUNK DRIVERS ARRESTED ON N3 OFF-RAMP IN THREE DAYS! The EMPD Freeway Unit were out in full force during the past weekend on the prowl for those who chose to be behind the wheel having taken intoxicating liquor. The special operation was conducted on three consecutive days from Friday to Sunday (September 15-17) between 4pm and midnight on each day.

The focus was on vehicles travelling on N3 freeway in both directions between Barry Marais and Leondale turnoffs.

Ten drivers were apprehended on Friday, six on Saturday and two on Sunday. Sixteen were detained at Vosloorus police station and two at Alberton Police station.

The suspect’s face was caught by the schools CCTV cameras. If anyone has information on the pictured person or the robbery, please contact Heidelberg SAPS on 016 341 0361.

EMPD SWEEPS GERMISTON CRIME HOTSPOTS CLEAN! Suspected drug dens and taverns in and around which most crimes occur were raided recently.

The EMPD Specialized Services comprising of Drug Enforcement, K9, Equestrian and SWAT units targeted several identified hotspots in the Germiston area in general and the Central Business District area in particular in an effort to ensure a safer environment for all.

The special operations started on September 13, police discovered a 23 year old foreign national with thirty packets of cat and six of crystal meth with an estimated value of R8,000 .

Hard cash amounting to R2,520 believed to be proceeds from selling drugs was confiscated from the suspect. The suspect was detained at Germiston police station.

Reported By Stephen Seakgwe A crowd of youngsters dressed in school uniform filled up the cinema theatres in Rosebank.

They were invited to be the first witnesses of a movie that was made to inspire them to be social entrepreneurs. The Step Up To A Start Up is a brainchild of Primestars Marketing, and this year, the fourth edition was successfully kicked off on Saturday, September 9.

In his speech to the mass gathering of youngsters and sponsors, MD of Primestars Martin Sweet had this to say; “Primestars Marketing will reach over 90 000 historically disadvantaged secondary school learners nationally this year on a variety of different educational projects.

In addition to Step Up, we also facilitate Career Guidance, Financial Literacy, Maths and Science revision programmes with the assistance of key strategic partners and sponsors.”

The programme is providing solutions for thousands of young South Africans who face a future without work. Step up To A Start up 4 calls on young people from all across South Africa to look at our ever-changing world, identify the challenges around them and find solutions using the tools provided for them through the programme.

Minister of Small Business Development, Lindiwe Zulu also sent her support for Step Up To A Start Up. In the official letter, the minister said that the programme is in line with the department’s core mandate to create condusive, sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems.

The fourth edition of the programme focuses on social entrepreneurship, where learners will be asked to find innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social and environmental

problems, centred around the concept of Seeking Opportunity, Connecting People and Creating Sustainable Value.

According to Mr Sweet, the programme’s goal is achieved by combining education and entertainment into the three core elements of our programme; Movie, Toolkit and Competitiona.

First, the participating youngsters attend a screening of an educational film where young entrepreneurs start a business that tackles social and environmental problems. This is done at various Ster-Kenikor cinemas countrywide. The movie titled Vukuzenzele, starring media personality ‘Maps’ Maponyane amongst a well known cast.

After the screening, an Entrepreneur’s Tool Kit that is given to all participating learners that assists them in implementing the skills learnt through this educational film, and allow them to develop their own business ideas and models. Participants have until Friday, September 29 to submit their phase 1 idea using the toolkit.

Learners are then given the opportunity to compete in an entrepreneurial competition by submitting their business model canvasses for assessment and adjudication by a panel of industry professionals and sponsors. During this process, at least 9 top business models will be identified and the teams responsible will be invited to attend a boot camp in Johannesburg.

This boot camp will hone and polish participants’ skills as they start to think more about developing and starting their businesses based on the ideas they submitted. The boot camp concludes with a prestigious Gala Dinner & Awards ceremony.

The awards ceremony will celebrate the winners that deliver workable business concepts that better the lives of their people and protect the planet.

The Dipaleseng Local Municipality in Mpumalanga is on a complete make-over. Areas like the municipal building in Balfour and parts of Siyathemba township have been turned into construction sites, much to the excitement of residents.

The local government has begun with massive infrastructure projects, some completed in the set time-frames and within the allocated budgets.

Every financial year, the Dipaleseng rolls out projects in order to address infrastructure development backlogs of the area.

ery of infrastructure development, cognizance of the fact that these projects demand massive financial backing which the institution does not have at its disposal should be viewed as a major contributing factor to this.

The upliftment of the local community in the implementation of these projects (in the form of subcontracting to local SMMEs and creation of job opportunities) has been taken seriously in Dipaleseng.

Some of these capital projects are funded through the annual Municipal Infrastructure Grant allocation received annually specifically for this reason, while others come from sources such as government sector departments and other external sources.

“The municipality is of the view that job creation, poverty alleviation and local business support are crucially important in the development of the local economic landscape.

City of Ekurhuleni MMC of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Dorah Mlambo alongside Mandla Buthelezi of the National Library officially launch the Mzansi Libraries Online (MLO) programme at the Germiston Library. Two more MLO centres have been simultaneously launched in Tembisa and Tsakane.

City of Ekurhuleni MMC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Cllr. Dorah Mlambo officially launched the Mzansi Libraries Online Project at the Germiston Library on Tuesday, September 19.

The launch of the Mzansi Libraries Online (MLO), dubbed the digital knowledge hub, envisages a literate and technologically advanced community of young and old citizens making use of technology at public libraries to improve their lives.

The overall objective of MLO is to empower South African communities to improve their lives through the provision of increased free access to information, particularly by children, youth, the unemployed, women, the elderly, and people living with disabilities especially the visually impaired.

The new digital knowledge hubs will have advanced facilities such as:

· Increased social and economic benefits through access to health, education and economic information. On-line registrations for university registrations, on-line studies and human resources applications. · Enhanced skills and capacity among library staff for a better service to the community. · Community training programmes. · A sustainable public sector that will continue to meet the needs of the community into the future.

The Winnie Mandela Library (Tembisa) and the Tsakane Library also have Mzansi Libraries Online.

Mzansi Libraries On-Line (MLO) is a programme of the National Library of South Africa, in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture and the provincial library services in all nine provinces. It is part of the Global Libraries Programme which has benefited some developing countries.

ATM FRAUD AND ROBBERY ON THE RISE! BEWARE! Katlehong North SAPS have compiled a list of safety tips to protecting yourself against card / monetary losses.

1. Ensure that the card is returned following a point of sale or ATM transaction and that it is the very same card that you presented.

2. Never accept help from any person at an ATM, not even from Security Officers or a bank official. Go inside the bank to ask for help.

3. If anyone tries to disturb or interfere with you whilst you are transacting at the ATM, your card could be skimmed, cancel the transaction immediately and report the incident using your bank’s Stop Card Toll – Free number or at the bank of your bank card.

4. Shield your hand with which you are

typing your pin number so that nobody can see your pin number, not only at the ATM, but also when using your card to make payments at a retailers or restaurant.

5. When you are shopping online, ensure that orders are only place on a secure website.

6. Never send an e-mail that quotes your card number, the expiry date and the CV number.

7. If your card is retained, do not leave the ATM before you have cancelled your card by calling your bank’s call centre using your own mobile handset.

CALL CENTRE HANDLES 4 MILLIONTH CALLER!

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, more residents are turning to their call centre to receive help on any service delivery challenges experienced.

The City’s Call center number 0860 543 000 has become more popular, this is evident, as the call centre received and passed the four million caller mark on Friday, September 8.

This is the milestone and an improvement from three million caller mark that was recorded in November 29, 2016.

The call centre can receive, on average, about 100 000 calls per month.

The service level achieved by the call centre for last month, August 2017 was 98.70 percent and the abandon (drop calls) rate was 0.03 percent, with the average speed to answer a call was one second.

In a statement recently released, Ekurhuleni vowed to continue finding solutions to technical glitches that the call centre experiences from time to time.

DJ Arch Jnr breaks Guinness world record of the youngest Club DJ (5) After several attempts, two fails and one last successive effort, Arch Jnr has finally broken the record with his third try. It was recently reported that the young DJ made this astonishing accomplishment on 11th June at Platinum Lounge, Cosmo City.

His first try fell short when he couldn't play a full hour set at age 3.

Second attempt also failed because he couldn't get approval because of the venue

chosen, which was at a soccer stadium in Pretoria, at a MC Donald's U/14 soccer tournament.

In June 2017, his father (Glen Hlongwane) and manager (Keitumetse Maleka) discretely tried their final attempt in a well known pub, in the streets of Cosmo City.

The late Mr. Thomas and Mama Winifred Nkobi were lifelong members of the African National Congress and played a pivotal role in parenting and supporting freedom fighters and members of Umkhonto we Sizwe while in exile.

The team is made up of Themba WoZo Thwala (visual artist), Thembela Mthombeni (pro photographer) , S'phiwe Mthembu and Dikgang Mollo (photographers).

On the Facebook page, they have placed a little poem to set the scene of the video series.

GOGO ESTER MAHLANGU TAKES OVER NEW YORK CITY STREETS! XOLA is the art piece done in the middle of the busy New York City streets, all honouring the legacy of Esther Mahlangu. The Ndebele Artist’s signature patterns coloured Franklin Street as part of a tourism partnership between SAA, Citi Bike and the Tourism office of the USA. Artist Imani Roberts painted the design on Esther’s behalf. Gogo Esther Mahlangu is from Mpumalanga and her Ndebele painting skills have been renowned worldwide. She is also famous for her consistent work with painting the latest special BMW vehicles.

On behalf of the Nkobi and Moroka, Thuto Nkobi delivered a moving message remembering ‘Mama and Papa’ and their selfless characters.

“The family misses Papa’s friendly and fatherly role, despite the fact that three quarters of his time he was running around raising funds for the movement, which he discharged with such expertise and grace. Mama’s unconditional love, warmth and kindness cannot be replaced by anything.

Though we feel as the core family that we never had enough time to spend with our parents (especially Papa), we are proud that they have spent most of their lifetime wisely, contributing to the liberation of the bigger family of South Africa.”

The family representative also thanked the City for giving a permanent home to some of the leaders of this country, by the process of renaming geographic features, structures and programmes.
