On Thursday, May 8 members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, representatives of various Non-Governmental Organisations and young men from various communities in the Province gathered to form a human chain around the Gauteng Legislature precinct to highlight the plight of women and children abuse.

The Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), Honourable Ntombi Mekgwe and the MEC for Community Safety, Honourable Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane lead the afternoon campaign, which encourages men to be protectors of women and children following the recent spate of rapes and murders of young women in Gauteng.

Gauteng hosts entrepreneurship and careers youth expo!

FREE ENTRY TO ALL YOUNG PEOPLE COUNTRYWIDE! The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) is hosting its annual Youth Career, Jobs and Entrepreneurship Opportunities Exhibition under the theme “A Season of Hope for Gauteng Youth” at the Nasrec Expo Centre, Soweto. The Expo forms part of the GPG’s Youth month activities.

This year’s youth Expo is centered on Tshepo1Million, government’s flagship programme for empowering the youth to play a meaningful role in the economy. The programme is built on a series of partnerships with the private and public sector, and has a specific focus on skills training, job placement and entrepreneurship development. Some of the partners working with government on this programme include big corporates such Hollard, Gijima, Broll, CocaCola SA, Micro-soft, ArcelorMittal and many more.

The Expo, which is in its third year running, is taking place on 9-18 June 2017.

Over 200 exhibitors are confirmed, and they include: The Innovation Hub; IBM; Coca-Cola SA; Regenesys; TVET College, SEDA, IDC and many more. The Expo seeks to minimise search and transaction costs for young people looking for information and services around careers, jobs and entrepreneurship. It also aims to showcase products made by young people and facilitate dialogue between the youth and policy makers.

HALALA FOR CHANDRE AND SAKKIE! The Monday of May 29 is a day to remember between Chandre and Sakkie Vosloo. The two lesbian lovers who got legally married in their hometown of Nigel in Ekurhuleni, and they officially tied the knot amongst friends and locals.

“It is not easy to fulfil a marriage promise regardless of your sex, gender or colour, said Sakkie. The couple further added that South

Africans must begin to realize that marriage is for those who love each other unconditionally. “I am not a promoter of same sex marriages but I fully condemn the killing of women and children, especially lesbians in our country. Everyone has the right to life,” she said as the couple concluded their interview with Joseph Masindi (Mapepeza reporter) during their wedding.

GOD REMEMBERED RATANDA! “South African citizens of Ratanda Location in Heidelberg are beginning to enjoy the gifts of the Holy Spirit,” said Pastor Dhlamini of the Christ Rehoboth Church during his weekday sermon. Congregants were seen falling and the pastor explains why this is happening: ‘The anointing power of God that is vested in the Word of God is breaking and tearing apart all the demons and evil spirits. There is not eating of grass, cow dung or chewing of newspapers by our people. The man of God has allowed his master, Jehovah Almighty God to use him to preach the Gospel of salvation to the poor and vulnerable,” he advocated.

Every Wednesday evening the Church hosts a ‘Deliverance Service’ open to everyone who can attend. The Christ Rehoboth is located in the Extension 5 section of Ratanda. Contact Pastor Dhlamini on 0732888660.

The Expo will officially open on 9 June at 10:00 with a panel discussion on the relevance and importance of June 16 to today’s youth followed by the graduation ceremony of the K53 Learner Driver Instructors.

One of the highlights of the Expo is the launch of the Tshepo One Million programme on 15 June where the Gauteng government and 20 companies that have made commitment to empower young people will sign the partnership agreements.

Planned activities at the Expo include the following: • Relaunch of the Tshepo 1 Million youth empowerment programme, 15 June.

• Exhibition – 200 exhibitors to provide information and services on Careers, Jobs and Entrepreneurship drawn from the private sector. Young people can also look forward to services such as obtaining matric certificates, applying online for admission, health screening.

• Dialogues, seminars and workshops: 30 dialogues on a variety of topics. Former President Thabo Mbeki will deliver the second Annual Youth Month Lecture on 15 June focusing on the life and contribution of the former President of the ANC, OR Tambo.

• Sport and recreation activities including the OR Tambo Social Cohesion Games.

• Cultural performances by up-and-coming and established artists.

• Book fair, cinema and theatre: Kalushi will be screened alongside other movies and young writers will be provided an opportunity to promote their works.

• June 16: National Youth Day programme encompassing wreath laying at the June 16 memorial, a walk by 15 000 youth from Orlando Stadium to Nasrec and official programme at Nasrec to be addressed by the Premier David Makhura.

In addition, the provincial government will honour young people through the Premier Youth Excellence and Awards.

Nominations for the awards will officially open on 9 June and close on 15 July.

Tshepo 1 Million started in 2014 as Tshepo 500 000 with the intention to empower 500 000 young people through skills training, job placement and entrepreneurship development.

Due to the success of the programme so far and the enthusiastic support from the private sector, the target has now been increased to one million. Since the launch of Tshepo 500 000, more than 350 000 young people have benefited from the programme.

REST IN PEACE LUCIA! On Monday, May 29 a decomposed body of a 29 year old female Thembisile Yende an Eskom employee was found under her desk wrapped in black plastic refuse bag in her office at Peterborough (Eskom Power Station) in Springs.

Forensics confirmed that she was a victim of foul play, and the family joined by South Africans have recently laid her to rest in her hometown in KwaThema, township in Ekurhuleni.

Sedibeng mayor Busisiwe Modisakeng mentioned this in her SODA speech, and she joins many political leaders who condenmed such hateful acts.

The Johannesburg based fashion designers are about to make their mark in the fashion industry as they prepare to showcase at Malawi Fashion Week, scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 24.

MADWOMEN is a brand that inspires generations of African women to be ‘WorldWide Women’. locally hand-making fashion products for export to African countries and internationally.

The MADWOMEN fashion brand is an NPO (Non-Profit-Organisation) initiative, which is hosted at the City Joburg Recreation Centres in Bertrams (Hilbrow) and CosmoCity.

Notice is hereby given to the rate payers and consumers in terms of section 13 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act 2000 that Lesedi Local Municipality has by council resolution approved 2017/2018 Medium-Term Revenue and Expenditure Framework (MTREF) for levying a rate on a property and service charges. The tariffs were approved by Council on 30 May 2017 – Council resolution number LC.MC 75/05/2017.

The council resolution is publicized in the municipal website – www.lesedilm.gov.za and at the municipality’s head and satellite offices and libraries. Electricity tariffs is approved by NERSA.

According to use

General factors that have been considered in determining the tariffs are as follows:  Affordability  Cost of bulk purchases of water and electricity  Distribution costs;  Distribution losses;  Depreciation expenses (capital replacement reserve);  Maintenance of infrastructure and fixed assets;  The cost of approved indigent relief; and  Overheads costs.

During winter months – June; July and August Peak Hours will be from 06:00 to 09:00 and 17:00 to 19:00 on weekdays. Standard Hours will be from 09:00 to 17:00 and 19:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and from 07:00 to 12:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 on Saturdays. Off-peak Hours will be from 22:00 to 06:00 on weekdays, 12:00 to 18:00 and 20:00 to 07:00 on Saturdays and all of Sundays. A public holiday falling on a weekday will be treated as a Saturday. An unexpectedly announced public holiday During summer months – September till May Peak Hours will be from 07:00 to 10:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 on weekdays. Standard Hours will be from 06:00 to 07:00, 10:00 to 18:00 and 20:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and from 07:00 to 12:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 on Saturdays. Guests were treated to a parade where the local emergency and law enforcement officers marched around the Civic Centre, setting the scene for the official address by Mayor Cllr. Busisiwe Modisakeng. she first remembered the laste Ahmed kathrada, who with Andrew Mlangeni received the Freedom of the District honorary Award from her. likening the sedibeng government as a three leg-pot or ‘potjie’ is how the mayor opened her address. “sedibeng District Municipality is a “potjie” on a crackling fire ready to prepare mouth-watering, healthy and sumptuous dishes for its community, for the people of the Vaal, sicelo, ratanda and impumelelo. surely, its people wait with hopeful and shining eyes and salivating to aroma and the food thereof. And indeed, the African national Congress (AnC) guided by the legacy and the values of Or Tambo will deliver on the promise. Each leg represents each local municipality. And, we are the heart and soul of local economic growth and development in our region. And the cooks are the elected councillors and staff
