JUst What YoUr feet neeD this Winter

Lindiwe Tshabalala is the maker of the cotton/ wool shoes that come in many different designs and sizes. She is a mother of two from Mamello township in Midvaal, south of Gauteng.

“I started to discover my potential during December 2008 on my brother’s wedding. The designer that was hired had limited material and designs. So I decided to volunteer to assist and that’s when I discovered a new skill,” she said in an interview with Mapepeza.

Tshabalala also said that although she was only a helper, she later started to make her own designs a year later. She also made some for herself and her family to wear.

The love for working with one’s own hands is Lindiwe’s (35) motivation to work, including the wonderful feeling she sees people wearing her designer shoes. “They don’t just look pretty, they humble my soul,” she said.

The main goal for Lindiwe is to one day one her own shoe company. She wants to begin to make a living from these designer shoes. “I remain a prisoner of hope, maybe if I had better channels I would be able to pursue my dream elsewhere or alternatively I could get sponsor or funding,” said Lindiwe.

The mother of two is currently working as a domestic worker, but being a fashion designer is all she ever wanted to do. “It has always been my second nature, but due to circumstances I have to dream less and make a living working at Marina Letata.

Tshabalala’s shoes are of good quality made from strong material. Customers have labelled them as very comfortable and reliable. From as little as R80 up to R500, one can own a pair of these winter warmers.

On Friday, April 28 the students of Siyafunda CTC and Tholulwazi Skills and Development Centre in Ratanda were honoured in a graduation ceremony, which was attended by Cllr Katie Rakitla MMC of Community Services and representatives from Sedibeng TVET College.

The event was held at Ratanda Extension 23 Hall.

PLENTY PACKS OF NYAOPE FOUND - PAROLLEE ARRESTED AGAIN!

In Heidelberg, a 30 year old Rape Parolee arrested for selling drugs – for the second time in one month.

On Tuesday, May 16 Police received information or tip-off that the suspect is carrying Nyaope for selling and is going to report at DCS Community Corrections Offices for his Rape conviction parole. Upon finding the suspect, police started searching the suspect’s back-pack, a transparent plastic bag

containing brownish packets was found with 88 loops of Nyaope with an estimated street value of R2 640.

The same suspect was being cornered and searched by Police last week Thursday, May 4 in the afternoon; he dropped the back pack bag on the ground and ran away. When Police searched the Back-Pack bag about74 loops Nyaope and two packets of ‘Rock’ drugs were found with an estimated street value R2 220.

The convictions were run or served concurrently. In those Two Counts of Rapes cases, suspect raped two minors aged 14 and 17 years old respectively. African Liberation Day,

African Freedom Day, or Africa Day on 25 May is an annual holiday celebrated in various countries in Africa, and around the world, coinciding with the formation of the OAU now known as African Union. The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was established on 25 May 1963 in Addis Ababa, with 32 signatory governments. It was disbanded on 9 July 2002 by its last chairperson, South African President Thabo Mbeki, and replaced by the African Union (AU).

History On 15 April 1958, in Accra, Ghana, African leaders and political activists gathered at the first Conference of Independent African States. In attendance were representatives of the governments of Egypt (then a constituent part of the United Arab Republic), Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, and the Union of the Peoples of Cameroon with the exception of the Republic of South Africa. This conference was significant in that it represented the first Pan-African conference to be held on African soil.

The conference was also exceptional because it laid the basis for the subsequent meetings of Africa heads of state and government during the Casablanca Group and the Monrovia Group era until the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963.

The Conference called for the founding of African Freedom Day, a day to “mark each year the onward progress of the liberation movement, and to symbolize the determination of the People of Africa to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation.”

Five years later, after the First Conference of Independent African States in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, another historic meeting occurred.

On 25 May 1963, leaders of thirty-two independent African states met to form the Organization of African Unity (OAU).

By then more than two-thirds of the continent had achieved independence, mostly from imperial European states.

At this meeting, the date of Africa Freedom Day was changed from 15 April to 25 May, and Africa Freedom Day was declared African Liberation Day (ALD).

The OAU’s primary aims:

• To co-ordinate and intensify the co-operation of African states in order to achieve a better life for the people of Africa.

• To defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of African states.

• The OAU was also dedicated to the eradication of all forms of colonialism and white minority rule as, when it was established, there were several states that had not yet won their independence or were white minorityruled. South Africa and Angola were two such countries.

The OAU proposed two ways of ridding the continent of colonialism and white minority rule. Firstly, it would defend the interests of independent countries and help to pursue the independence those of still-colonised ones. Secondly, it would remain neutral in terms of world affairs, preventing its members from being controlled once more by outside powers.

A Liberation Committee was established to aid independence movements and look after the interests of already-independent states.

The OAU also aimed to stay neutral in terms of global politics, which would prevent them from being controlled once more by outside forces – an especial danger with the Cold War.

The OAU had other goals: • Ensure that all Africans enjoyed human rights.

• Raise the living standards of all Africans.

• Settle arguments and disputes between members – not through fighting but rather peaceful and diplomatic negotiation.

Soon after achieving independence, a number of African states expressed a growing desire for more unity within the continent. Not everyone was agreed on how this unity could be achieved, however, and two opinionated groups emerged in this respect: The Casablanca bloc, led by Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, wanted a federation of all African countries. Aside from Ghana, it comprised also Algeria, Guinea, Morocco, Egypt, Mali and Libya. Founded in 1961, its members were described as "progressive states".

The Monrovian bloc, led by Senghor of Senegal, felt that unity should be achieved grad-

ually, through economic cooperation. It did not support the notion of a political federation. Its other members were Nigeria, Liberia, Ethiopia and most of the former French colonies.

Some of the initial discussions took place at Sanniquellie, Liberia.

Achievements Against the backdrop of the Cold War, the OAU faced considerable challenges to the execution of its objectives. While it did undertake a number of important ventures, such as aiding liberation movements to overthrow colonial regimes, combating racism and apartheid and resolving boundary disputes among member states.

One of the OAU’s greatest achievements was the assistance it provided to liberation movements, to which the organisation afforded Associate Member and observer status. Article II (1)d of the OAU’s Charter, which states the intention “to eradicate all forms of colonialism from Africa,” was perhaps the organisation’s most successful venture, restoring territorial integrity to many formerly-colonised states.

A further achievement of the OAU was its encouragement of the development of regional economic communities such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the South African Development Coordinating Commission (SADCC), the North Africa-Greater Area Free Trade Area and the Central Africa-Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries. Eventually, attempts at creating a continental body for economic development led to the establishment of the African Economic Commission through a treaty signed in Abuja, Nigeria in 1991.

In terms of social achievements, the OAU facilitated the unification of trade unions through the establishment of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) and promoted youth organisations to further the leadership potential on the continent.

cops investigate Airport fatal shooting!

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said it will thoroughly investigate the fatal shooting that occurred near the O.R Tambo International Airport in City of Ekurhuleni on Monday, May 15.

One man was killed and a car, Hyundai H1, was hijacked in the vicinity of the OR Tambo International Airport around 16:30pm, SAPS spokesperson Major General Sally de Beer said.

De Beer said preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle was transporting a group of six businesspeople from Johannesburg to the airport and en route, at least one vehicle attempted to flag them down.

“Reportedly, as he took the off-ramp from the highway to the airport, the vehicle was blocked by two other vehicles, one being a black VW Golf, and the driver was shot and fatally wounded.

The suspects drove off in the Hyundai with the passengers.”

The passengers were abandoned by the suspects in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, after being robbed of some of their belongings, including cellular phones. None of the passengers were injured.

He urged anyone with information that may assist SAPS in the investigation into this crime may contact Crime Stop on 0860010111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211, anonymously if needs be.

Home Affairs Security Alert:

Be warned, there is a group going to homes and pretending to be officials from home affairs.

They carry documents with the letterhead Department of Home Affairs and claim to be confirming that everyone has a valid ID for the upcoming elections. They are robbing homes.

Take note there is no initiative like that from the government. They are everywhere and they look presentable.

There was nation of Israel that was once oppressed and become slaves of Egyptians.

The ‘Israelites’ were suffering in that foreign land. They got used to this slavery and suffering because they cried for so long to God, but God didn’t answer on the same moment.

But after a while God answer their prayers, when He took out the Israelites out of Egypt using his faithful servant Moses.

It was not easy it was difficult indeed.

When the Israelites were leaving the land of slavery they faced a lot of challenges on their journey to freedom. They even wanted to give-up at some point.

It may happen that you are also facing the tough situation or problems. Although you are trying very hard to come out on this pain and suffering, it keeps following you and things are not going according to your plan.

Have a conquering spirit.

When God take out the Israelites on Egypt that was not a victory, because the journey they went upon afterward was full of challenges.

To you as well, God already take you out from your pains, but the enemy wants to take you back into your pains and suffering.

You are not conquered yet. l want to say to you who is going through pains and suffering: you will conquer! This battle is yours. Don’t look back; keep on going into your success no matter the challenge.

God stored great things for you and all your pains and suffering will come to an end but don’t lose hope.

You will reach the place where, like the Israelites when they saw an ocean they cried and think it was an end of them, but it was where God made a say for their salvation through the waters.

unior Khathi is a rising rap artist known as Kid Tank from Durban is making his name heard around South Africa, touring schools and entertaining fans who know his music on social media.

Kid Tank has set up his 2017 schedule to his school career and giving back to the kids, as young as he is his doing big things most big artist in industry most fail to do, which is giving back to their real supporters "The Kids".

Kid Tank’s biggest highlights yet are features with acts like Durban nyts, Efelow (WTF), Bass (Dj Oskido's Son) amongst others.

They have identified four schools per province and with two community radios along with a provincial radio and use the platforms to perform and motivate school pupils.

Kid Tank’s real name is Phathakahle Sabelo Junior Khathi, who believes in the popular quote by O.R Tambo ‘a nation that does not take care of its youth is a broken nation’.

S to him personally, this tour is simply to challenge the private companies and community stakeholders to support him in a quest to positively motivating pupils on the importance of school and wants to discourage his fans in using drugs.

Junior believes in certain family values; one of these is to to give back to the people regardless whether they support him or not.

His father and mother (Dj Tira/Mthokozisi Khathi and Gugu Khathi) have always been supportive towards his selfless ideas to giving back to the community.
