PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA has invited all South African to put forward their nominations of persons, from all walks of life, that they believe deserve to receive the country’s highest honours, the National Orders.

The next National Orders awards investiture ceremony will take place in April 2017; honouring South Africans and eminent foreign nationals who have contributed to the achievement of a free, united, non-racial, democratic, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa in various ways.

Also honoured are citizens who have sacrificed life and limb to save others and those who have excelled in various fields. The ceremony contributes towards unity, reconciliation and nation building.

There are six orders that are bestowed to deserving recipients, including: - The Order of Mendi for Bravery which recognises South African citizens who have performed acts of bravery.

- The Order of Ikhamanga which recognises

South African citizens who have excelled in the fields of arts, culture, literature, music, journalism and sport.

- The Order of the Baobab which recognises South African citizens who have contributed to community service, business and economy, science, medicine and technological innovation.

- The Order of Luthuli which recognises South African citizens who have contributed to the struggle for democracy, nation-building, building democracy and human rights, justice and peace as well as for the resolution of conflict.

- The Order of Mapungubwe which recognises South Africans who have excelled and attained exceptional achievement to the benefit of South Africa and beyond.

- The Order of the Companions of OR Tambo which recognises eminent foreign nationals for friendship shown to South Africa. It is therefore an Order of peace, cooperation and active expression of solidarity and support.

14 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN KATLEHONG AREA.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE Did you know that if all the employees of the South African Police Service (SAPS) knew and understood the processes of applying for a police clearance certificate, they could inform the community accordingly?

Conditions/Service Description: This service is available to people who require confirmation on their criminal status for emigration purposes or for working abroad.

A certificate will be issued, stating whether or not any criminal offences have been recorded against the applicant. Fingerprints will be taken at the nearest police station before it is analysed and the certificate issued.

The SAPS’s Criminal Record Centre (CRC) in Pretoria is solely responsible for issuing clearance certificates.

Process: • The applicant must provide a full set of their fingerprints, preferably taken at their nearest police station.

The applicant's full name, surname, date of birth, place of birth and identity number (if available) must also be recorded on the fingerprint form. A copy of the applicant's identity document/passport must accompany the application. The applicant must present his/her identity document at the police station as proof of identity will be required.

• South African citizens, who live abroad, may apply at any police station in that country or at a South African embassy. Fingerprints should be taken on the official fingerprint forms of the specific country. The person who took the fingerprints must sign the form. A complete set of fingerprints and a copy of the applicant’s identity document or passport must accompany the application.

• If the applicant provides his/her cellular phone number (currently only South African) on the application for a police clearance certificate, he/she will be provided with an SMS, indicating that the application was received, and the reference number that will be allocated to his/her certificate. The applicant can then determine, by using the reference number provided, when his/her police clearance certificate will be finalized at the police clearance office by using the facility on the SAPS’s website.

The police station where the applicant applied will send the completed application to the CRC. In the case of an electronic payment, the initials and surname of the applicant should be indicated as the reference. The letters ‘PCC’ must be added as a reference, which will indicate that the payment is for a police clearance certificate.

An applicant, who prefers to make an electronic payment abroad, may approach any bank that can make a telegraphic transfer and request that the relevant fees be paid into the above bank account. Proof of payment must be sent to this office before the application is processed.

Once it has been completed, the certificate will be mailed to the applicant by post. Individuals abroad are responsible for their own postage. Applicants can arrange for the certificate to be collected through a courier service at their own expense. A police clearance certificate may be reissued within six months of the original application, yet an additional cost of R96,00 will be required. A new application must be submitted six months after the original application has been submitted.

ON Saturday, June 18, a business robbery took place at Norvic Motors (Caltex Garage) along R23 Road next to Heidelberg Prison.

It is claimed that two night shift petrol attendants, aged 35 and 40 years old respectively, were on duty sitting in their office when they were confronted by two unknown men.

CHINA FARM WOMAN ROBBED AND RAPED! ONE SUSPECT BEHIND BARS!

A house robbery and rape case was opened after a 23 year old man was arrested at Houtpoort Farm, commonly known as China Farm in Heidelberg. SAPS Heidelberg confirms the case was opened on Saturday, June 18.

It is suspected that the female victim was alone in the house when she heard male voices outside and upon enquiring, she heard the suspects forced door open.

It is further alleged that whilst suspects were in-

NEW TAXI RANK BRINGS RELIEF TO PALMRIDGE COMMUTERS! On June 24, Ekurhuleni Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Roads and Transport Cllr Petrus Mhlari officially opened the 12.7 Million taxi rank in Palmridge.

This facility is part of the City’s vision of modernizing the townships by investing in growing resources in infrastructure that directly improve the lives of citizen.

Sarafina Maseko is a resident of Palmridge and uses public transport from Palmridge to Germiston daily; she could not contain her excitement upon the official opening ceremony.

“This is a dream come true, waiting for taxis in an open veld was the worst experience especially in summer when it rains, the heavy rains and muddy surfaces made it hard to enjoy travelling with public transport. Now I’m glad we have a well paved taxi rank and loading bays with shelter,” Maseko said.

GAUTENG YOUTH CONVENE IN ANNUAL CHILDREN SECTOR PARLIAMENT!

The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Cllr Mondli Gungubele has welcomed the decision of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) to replace him with current Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mzwandile Masina.

“If I came to Ekurhuleni in 2011 and messed up the city, I would be very disappointed. Right now I am at peace with my future. I have done what I was deployed by the ANC to do and I am not disappointed,” Gungubele explains. “when you join the ANC you do so voluntarily because you want to serve the interests of the people of the republic, and the party will always decide where it believes you can best serve this purpose,” he explains.

The mayor says he will give full support to his successor ‘because ultimately this is not about individuals but the interests of the people of Ekurhuleni’.

Mayor Gungubele thanked everyone who contributed during his term of office. “we had great political leadership. The executive did a great job and oversight was as equally effective. The administration, entities and other stakeholders also ensured the success of our programme,” he explains. “All said and done, I wish to also thank my family for the support they gave me and continue to give me during the trying and exciting times in my life as a politician.”

He then wished the new incumbent the ‘best of luck’ and committed to assist ‘whenever I am called upon to do so’.

“My focus right now will be in campaigning for my party, the ruling ANC to win the forthcoming local government elections with overwhelming majority so that we can continue with the good work we have done in the past 15 years,” he pointed out.

Mondli Gungubele came into the City’s Executive ‘hot seat’ in October 2010.

ON Tuesday, June 28, The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) assembled the 2016 Children Sector Parliament under the theme ‘Following up on our commitments to the Children of Gauteng’.

Hosted in Protea South Multipurpose Centre, Soweto, the ceremony featured members of the provincial legislature and the MEC for Social Development, Nandi Manyathula-Khoza.

The Children’s Sector Parliament is targeted at children between the ages of 7 years to 18 years. The sector-Parliament allows children to participate in legislative processes and encourage the born free generation to be part of influencing and shaping good governance in the post 21st years of South Africa in democracy.

On Friday, June 24, the Lesedi Multi-Media, Arts and Culture (MAC) Forum together with the Lesedi Local Municipality hosted a 40th Anniversary June 16 commemoration event, #76 COMMEMORATING, at the Inqaba Yokulinda Center in Ratanda.

Present at the event was Mrs Dlamini, special events co-ordinator, from the Mayor’s office who reminded the youth of the importance of being thorough and consistent with what they are doing (performing arts and visual arts), and that the

Lesedi Local Municipality assured is there to help the young and gifted people in the area.

Other invited guests were, Sabelo Makhubo (Actor and performer), who then explained the importance of being a theatre performer before persuing a career in television, and Dumisani Khanyile, part of the team who endorsed 90% local content at the SABC Radio stations, who then gave a step by step approach on how artist can get their music played on radio, In emphasis, these five topics were discussed:

GUATENG LEGISLATURE TO HONOUR YOUR CHOICE ‘WOMEN OF COURAGE’!

Do you know of a remarkable woman (young or mature) in your community who deserves recognition for serving and empowering others selflessly?

On wednesday, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and the Social Development MEC Nandi Manyathula-Khoza, launched this year’s edition of the Vita Basadi Awards in Protea South (Soweto).

Also on the same day and venue was the Children’s Sector Parliament held at the Multipurpose Hall.

Honourable Speaker Mekgwe will honour women of Gauteng during the month of August. These are women who make positive impact in their communities without reward.

How to nominate your ‘woman of Courage’

The most convenient way to nominate a woman of your choice is online. Visit the Gauteng Legislature website on www.gpl.gov.za.

Forms can also be collected for free at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. The GPL will place entry boxes and nomination forms in municipalities for people who cannot reach the Provincial Legislature. Community media (radio and newspapers) will also have more information.

The Vita Basadi Awards ceremony will be held on 25 August 2016, at the Gauteng Legislature; Johannesburg City Hall. ‘Vita Basadi’ means ‘women of Courage’.

The eight categories in detail

You may nominate a woman you believe deserves to be recognised in any of the following categories:

1. Outstanding Youth Philanthropist Award

A young woman philanthropist who helps others voluntarily through her skills and talents, as well as interventions that contribute to community empowering. She shows outstanding leadership and commitment to the community through direct financial support and developing/ supporting charitable programs.

2. Community Heroine Award

Deserving of this award is a woman considered to have the qualities of a heroin – your community heroine. A woman who is admired for her outstanding achievements and noble qualities. This is a woman who inspires excellence and paves the way for others to achieve greatness. She is a role model in her community and is recognised for her hard work, knowledge transfer and mentorship.

3. Community Builder of the Year Award A woman who has shown courage and commitment in developing her community. This is a woman who puts her community first; she is a leader who inspires collective action, has a kind heart and is resourceful. She stops at nothing to empower her community to sustain itself, be it through business ventures or income-generating projects. This community builder is a mentor for community leaders and leads her community in various aspects.

4. Woman of Honour Award

A female achiever in a traditionally male-dominated industry and has contributed to job creation for women within her industry. She has broken the gender role stereotypes and is an inspiration to young women who wish to enter traditionally male-dominated industries.

5. Unsung Legend Award

Deserving of this award is a woman who has been serving her community for 20 or more years, without any recognition or compensation. She never seeks fame or reward for her contributions but has served her community tirelessly and with passion.

6. The Guardian Award

This category is for a woman in the Police or Military force, who holds the fort and has made sacrifices in the interest of her community.

7. Young Dignitary Award

The category seeks either a primary or a high school pupil who is positively influencing her peers and those older. She is a determined, positive and dedicated youth who never tires in helping others in different ways.

8. Outstanding Creative Award

This category one can nominate any influential woman who positively uses her creative work to showcase the best of and uplift the value of women in society. Examples include a motivational speaker, a poet, a fine artist, writer etc.

Terms and conditions

Please note that nominations are open to women who are residents of Gauteng only, and that all nominees must be over the age of 18. Except for the Young Dignitary Award nominees.

An independent panel of judges will select a winner and a runner up in each category. winners and runners up will be announced at the Awards ceremony.

Entries close on Friday, 22 July 2016. Only Gauteng-residing women can be nominated.
