MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR TONY PARKES We are doing business in trying times. Yet, whilst COVID-19 has been a huge disruption to local business it has also been a catalyst for the Business Associations in Manurewa and Clendon to rethink how we best support local business, now and into the future.

This 5-Year Plan is a reflection of what our members and key stakeholders have told us will make Manurewa and Clendon great places to shop and to be centres for our community. It is also a statement of how we will develop and maintain an environment that supports and builds strong, sustainable businesses.

Although we all face uncertainty, we are doing this together, and by working together we will survive and thrive. Our 5-Year Plan is a touchstone and map to navigate the disruption and bring us back to business, stronger and better than before.

MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER NEIL PUNJA Our 5-Year Plan establishes a framework to realise and inspire the dreams and ambitions of local business and communities. The Plan establishes a solid framework from which to build and deliver a work programme that truly benefits business and community in the Manurewa Clendon Business District.

Originally shaped pre-COVID, the Plan was intended to be more aspirational in its focus and direction. Whilst this is still a major driver, the content has been adapted to better suit the more immediate priorities of local business and our community. And in light of any certainty for what might lie ahead, we are incorporating a high degree of flexibility into the Plan’s more operational aspects.

This will help to ensure we can effectively and efficiently respond to any issues or opportunities as, or before, they present.

So, whilst we anticipate some tough times ahead, we have a Plan to give us clear direction whilst retaining the flexibility to respond in an appropriate and timely manner to any issues and opportunities we might face.

MANUREWA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION Manurewa Business Association exists to promote and develop the vitality and well-being of business in Manurewa.

Merging with the Clendon Business Association in late 2019 means our operations and services now benefit all businesses operating in and between the Manurewa and Clendon Town Centres. This is unique in the Auckland region and as a Business Association that is committed to making Manurewa thrive – something we are very excited about.

Our expansion provides scope for the Association’s remit to include local economic development as well as our traditional focus on supporting and developing Manurewa’s businesses and business owners.

DEVELOPMENT PROCESS The Manurewa 5-Year Plan 2020-2025 is the result of a comprehensive review of previous business plans, key stakeholder interviews, desktop research and an analysis of other relevant documents and reports.

Key themes from this work and further refinement with MBA management has created a plan that will guide the development of Manurewa as a thriving community for industry and enterprise.

Whilst this may have once been the case, today it is entirely untrue. Manurewa has a unique identity and story to be developed and told, highlighting the range and diversity of visitor and retail attractions. And as one of Auckland’s fastest growing populations with the geographic advantage of unparalleled access to all modes of public and private transport, it offers significant advantages and opportunities for attracting new business to the District.
