LETTER FROM THE EDITOR The Modern Glamour edition is a symphony of two contrasting styles: timeless elegance meets the decadent and exquisite. By fusing the old with the new, it is the subtle balance between the two that makes fashion thought-provoking and relevant. This issue marries many ideas dedicated to embracing glamour with over 60-pages of its parallel relationship with fashion-forward style. Inspired by Hollywood, feminine and vintage chic, we added a dash of masculinity and street edge to deliver modern glamour through our urbane lens. Our cover shot from Russia’s Alex Nazarov redefines the sleek and the luxe giving our cover model, Maria Mazikova that femininity and soft fluidity. This editorial feature captures the essence of modern glamour with its vibrant colors and tailored elegance. Kasia Kozinski’s “I Dare You” makes a bold statement! This powerful story salutes luxury and craftsmanship - the chosen aesthetic of movers and shakers everywhere. It is delicate but not precious, instead it sneers at the pretentious.
MANUKA gets up-close and personal with model Kyria Zoeter, from New Generation in Amsterdam, with special thanks to our guest contributor, Allan Gregorio, photographer and correspondent. Our ‘street-style’ bliss delivered by Raúl Muñoz directly from Paris, showcases the swankiest high-fashion looks, while observing traditional notions of fashionable. We change up our Beauty section by also taking a closer look at the fresh-faced beauties rocking their natural beauty on the streets of Paris. In our Art and Culture series, we commemorate the artistry of internationally-acclaimed New York artist and sculptor, Simon Rigg. We also tap into the creative minds of French photographer, Romain Thiery who specializes in forgotten pianos in abandoned buildings in Europe; and Australian-based photographer, Natalia Naa who makes our hearts flutter with her butterflies. This issue will define the indefinable! Please keep sending us your feedback and give us your input on topics you want covered in future issues.
We celebrate the artful expression of classic meets quirky in “Le Paris Exotique” <<meaning Exotic Paris>> by Anastasia Zimikhina. JoJo Dan’Elle

@ALLANGREGORIO
How did you become a model? I got scouted for the first time when I was 14 years old. I was very young and did not think that it was possible for me to pursue a modeling career while I was still in school. I wanted to finish school first and after that I would try to model full time, because I really liked modeling. So, near the end of my senior year, I started to look up some modeling agencies and out of those agencies I chose New Generation Model Management (Amsterdam). I have signed a contract with them around May 2018 and I am very happy with them. So that’s how I started. @KYRIAZOETER
@ALLANGREGORIO
When did you realize you wanted to become a model? @KYRIAZOETER I think the first time I was sure I wanted to be a model was when I saw the Victoria Secret Fashion Show. All these women looked so amazingly beautiful and strong. I think I was about 15 years old and was just mesmerized by all the beauty. I also liked the fact that fashion is art and the idea that I am contributing to bringing that art alive. So, as I began realizing that, I was about 17 years old... I was sure I would do whatever it takes to be the best model I can be.

@ALLANGREGORIO
Which types of projects would be out of your comfort zone and how would you deal with them? @KYRIAZOETER I think there aren’t a lot of projects that would really be out of my comfort zone, but if I had to choose one, then I would say a photoshoot with spiders. I have severe arachnophobia and big tarantulas are my biggest fear. I honestly must say that I don’t know if I would do it. It really would depend on the client and how much they pay me. But if I did it, I would take a deep breath and try to rationalize the situation, so that I wouldn’t feel that nervous. @ALLANGREGORIO
Haha! So, next time we are going to have a photoshoot with spiders! I hope you’re ready? @KYRIAZOETER Haha, I hope not! @ALLANGREGORIO
What would you like people to know about you? @KYRIAZOETER I would like people to know that I have a very positive mindset. It has also helped me with this job. You have to deal with a lot of rejection and a lot of uncomfortable situations. I always like to think that a better time is coming when things do not go the way I want it to. Positivity is the key to life! @ALLANGREGORIO
How would your friends
describe you?
@KYRIAZOETER
I think my friends would describe me as a girly girl with an edgy side, tough, sweet, dedicated and charming.

@ALLANGREGORIO
What is your favorite movie
and why?
@KYRIAZOETER
My favorite movie is probably Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It’s a real classic and I absolutely adore Audrey Hepburn. For me she represents the ideal woman. She was beautiful, friendly, cared for others and she knew how to dance. @ALLANGREGORIO
Good choice for Breakfast at Tiffany’s! Any advice to young aspiring models? @KYRIAZOETER Don’t sign any contract without reading it first and don’t let criticism get to you. The industry can be really overwhelming and it can make young girls very insecure about themselves. Also, don’t do anything what you don’t want to do. For example: If a photographer wants you to take your top off, but you don’t feel comfortable with nudity or with the photographer, you don’t have to do it! @ALLANGREGORIO
Where do you see yourself
aged 60?
@KYRIAZOETER
I hope I will be sitting in a warm country enjoying my retirement with my husband at a poolside sipping margaritas. I hope my family is healthy and happy. The last thing I hope is that I have lived my life with no opportunities untaken.

Designed by the French-born stylist Moira Cristescu, these pieces bring out the complexity of a heroine. Delicate but not fragile. Strong but fallible. Imperfect but irresistible. They are built on contrast, soft transparencies versus graphic stripes, aerial poetry combined with constricting harnesses. Together, they convey a feeling of empowered grace.

LESS IS MORE! BY J.D. NELSON
These fresh-faced beauties were spotted at Paris Fashion Week for their astounding ‘street-style’ get-ups paired with their natural beauty. Modern glamour is about showcasing a woman’s natural beauty by bringing out your soft feminine nature, while still highlighting your best features. Our ultra-glam modern-day fashion superstars all encapsulate that effortless and feminine chic finish. Less is more! ...so sometimes that modern glam look is achieved by looking like you just don’t give a damn (even though deep down, you actually do). Add a slick high ponytail, a messy bun, or smooth straight hair to complete your look. 62 | manukamag.com
10-STEPS TO A LUMINOUS NATURAL LOOK 1. Start with a clean face and moisturize to prep your skin. 2. Prime your skin. A primer is a base for foundation that allows it to go on smoother and last longer. 3. Add your foundation and go light with your coverage. 4. Use a concealer for any scars, redness, pimples, blemishes. 5. Blush and bronze away. 6. Now highlight and use your favorite illuminators. 7. Add a touch of earthy eye makeup (browns, gold, beige etc). 8. Emphasize your eyebrows. 9. Add a smidget of eyeliner and mascara. 10. Finish with a touch of peach lipstick or lip gloss. Voila! You are done! Are you ready to stop traffic?

nternationally acclaimed Artist and Sculptor, Simon Rigg, recently unveiled his “Hollow Monuments” exhibition in Melbourne, Australia to add to the city’s art culture.
plays with proportional spaces. His reflection on indigenous art has been described as ‘an explosion into a sci-fi reality landing on earth’ which demands a thoughtful shakeup of how we perceive life.
Simon is a Melbourne-born artist who relocated to New York City in 1998, to pursue a rich and varied world of art in a city that was illustrious for offering opportunities to new artists. Later in 2000, Simon was accepted into the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (EFA) in New York City, where he continually evolved and progressed in his level of definition. The admittance into the Foundation offered recognition for Simon to participate in the annual exhibitions hosted by the EFA and a continuation in numerous other exhibits worldwide.
Throughout Simon’s successful career, he has predominately focused on the metaphor of home as refuge and has been strongly influenced by indigenous architecture and forms built from what the land offers world cultures. Working in New York City; a city built on modernity and evolving history, provided a stark juxtaposition to the deviation of Simon’s work and only made them clearer and more compelling because of the paradox.
Simon’s latest works celebrate his strong influence and creative expression in his unique capacity to mold porcelain, conveying strength and demanding interaction with indigenous art. His raw, urban grit
Simon’s sculptures in marble, porcelain, and wood, strongly define the connection to earth, but more often, are combined together to negotiate and establish conceptually, evocative identities with strong senses of belonging.

omain Thiery is a professional French photographer and pianist who specializes in forgotten pianos in abandoned buildings in Europe. His “Requiem for pianos” series is proof of his attachment to piano, travel and photography. The series consist of approximately 50 photographs with a focus on pianos. Romain delicately captures the beauty of each piano always sitting imposingly with some dismantled or missing keys. To achieve his “Requiem for pianos”, Romain explored several countries including France, Italy, Belgium, Ukraine, Germany, and Poland. Through these images, the musical notes of these abandoned pianos reason again in these buildings in ruins, giving free rein to our imagination. atalia Naa is a Melbourne-based photographer and content curator. At the moment, her work revolves around a mix of conceptual fashion and beauty concepts. Natalia seeks to inspire creativity, freedom and social connection through the clicks of a shutter button, and inspired by adventures, travel and all things photogenic. Making friends with strangers and getting to know people better is her primary goal in photography – instead of focusing on how her subjects look, she focusses on conveying her feelings about them. Natalia uses her photography as a tool to connect to people and feed them with knowledge and emotion. This butterfly shoot was inspired during a trip to a butterfly garden while Natalia was travelling overseas! Natalia thought that it would be super cool if the butterflies flutter around and land on the visitors‌and that was how the theme of this shoot was conceptualized! Natalia wanted the photoshoot to have a fairytale touch so she incorporated the flowy dress as the outfit with nature as the backdrop.
