1. The shallow plot - 5x30

In this plot of 5x30, a central core divides the housing complex in two mirrored units and gives access trough the public area of the house. A second vertical core with a gallery, works as a threshold between public and private areas and is accentuated by a half height difference of level.

In section the difference of level between the dwellings and the urban public space gives them more privacy, in addition each dwelling has spaces of one and a half level giving them more movement in the fazade.

2. The irregular contours/limits.

Two internal patios interconected by a vertical circulation core is the space that connects the different dwellings and acts as a big atrium where people meets. The dweellings are distributed along this irregular plot by setting consecutive horizontal axes which help organizing the spaces.

This same organizal logic is used in the case of a triangular plot, with a central squared space.

The fazade is treated as a mass with substraction operations. First the central patio and one access for each side of the triangle and secondly the exterior galleries in each dwelling.

Two main axis set the urban area and the organization of the plot, where each tipology connects to the other through the open spaces in the ground floor.

The heights of each building is set in relation to the general orientation and to provide the best solar gain.

The urban tool box consist on different interventions that can be used in an urban area: adition, sustraction, perimetral compactness.

Taking into account the two main typologies of a city, veranda and courtyard, we propose a new balance in the city.

In an historical context of the old neighborhood of Madrid, where we find a lack of proper illumination and ventilation, we generate a new urban street, a intimate and liveful area where neighbours and visitors can meet.

The intervention connects existing parks and patios to give the city a better public space.

The linear buildings work as a framing to public space.

The towers densify the area and are an urban landmark related to parks.

We propose a green linear park on top of the A5, that connects with the existing Casa de Campo and Madrid Rio parks.

A backbone of 10 stories levels connects the whole new urbanization and is the host of all the commercial, offices and infrastrutural uses.

The residential blocks (white) are placed trasversally to the A5 to allow views and ventilation to Casa de Campo, its typologies of high density allow the new neighborhood to have green parks on each block.

In the first phase, the designing approach was to close the block, genearating 2 internal courtyards and leaving 2 exterior parks that work as a space for exterior living.

In the second phase, the structure aims to exploit the maximum span possible in the ground floor, abling a flexible plan in the interior. The core is situated in a middle position for equal distances for both sides.

3. facade For the design of the fazade, the goal was to persue different exterior spaces, such as interior galleries and exterior balconies.

At the same time, this provides solar protection from the sun from the west.

Following the urban criteria of different courtyards, with different dimentions, the project gives two different treatment for different urban situations: streets and interior parks, one with pollution and noise from cars and the other with a much lower noise.
