Meet our Commissioners

Text box about the role our commissioner play in our work

I am serving on Manteca’s Recreation and Parks Commission to actively support our strong program and event foundation while helping guide Manteca’s Recreation & Community Services Department to identify and address our future needs and opportunities as a rapidly growing city. I am particularly focused on growth of our Youth Sports programs, as well as continuing to broaden enrichment programs and events for our Seniors. With experience serving on my HOA Board of Directors and Manteca’s Millennial Advisory Committee, I help bring a unique perspective to MRPC focused on strategic planning and sustainable growth for City of Manteca.

Manteca’s Recreation & Community Services Department offers a wide range of diverse and engaging programs and events that I am proud to help support. My favorite program is Junior Giants, an eight-week baseball league for K-8 students focused on teaching baseball fundamentals as well as critical life skills in leadership, teamwork, confidence, and integrity. City of Manteca is entering its third year as part of the free program paid for by San Francisco Giants Community Fund that serves nearly 25,000 youths across Northern California. Last year, my Son, Alex, and I represented City of Manteca in an on-field pregame ceremony to help kickoff the annual San Francisco Giants Community Fund Glove Drive. I’ve had the privilege of coaching our Minors group (boys and girls ages 7-9) since City of Manteca joined the Junior Giants program - it’s been the highlight of my summer over these past couple years!

As we look to the future, my vision is that Manteca’s Recreation & Community Services Department continues to build upon our strong catalog of Youth and Senior programs. Adding depth to our Youth Sports programs will require an expanded partnership with MUSD to increase shared use of their facilities to support growth of our athletic programs to serve a rapidly increasing youth population. Adding breadth to our Senior programs with engaging and enriching activities will help solidify City of Manteca as ‘The Family City’ - a safe and welcoming community where you can grow up and happily retire.

I am serving Manteca Recreation and Parks Commission because of my love for youth sport development! I was interested in how I could help Manteca grow their recreational sports and programs to benefit all of our citizens of Manteca.

My favorite program that MRCSD offers is the Jr NBA basketball league and the Manteca Dolphins Swim Team. Both programs have grown with each year they have been offered and are both proven to be a well rounded and competitive program for all ages!

For the future of MRCSD I would love to see the aquatics side of things embrace a water polo development program. Water polo is one of the fastest growing sports in California! I would love to also see more partnerships from local club programs across all sports. With club partnerships and communication, we can better build the recreation youth development and create a pathway for young athletes to move up and continue to become more competitive as their talents improve. This in turn would greatly affect our local high school programs and their pathways into collegiate play and life skills.

I grew up in this community. Attended Lincoln Elementary and Manteca High School. Swam every summer at Lincoln Pool. Met my lovely wife, Eryn Bowers, here as well. We now have a kiddo who is even more active than we were. She plays softball, basketball and volleyball. We’ve attended six father-daughter dances. Our family loves the parks in the city and spend a great deal of time together enjoying the programs the City offers. My appointment to the Manteca Recreation Commission means a great deal to me. It’s a chance to support the community programs that encourage our families, students, parents and residents to come together as a community. I believe simple and fun events throughout the community are a chance to establish meaningful relationships with our neighbors and ultimately build stronger communities together. I am honored to be part of the commission. My favorite event is by far the daddy-daughter and family dances at the senior center. I commend the staff for putting these events together and I look forward to these each year. Not too far behind that are community events like the Food Truck Frenzy and Movie Nights!

The future of the Manteca Recreation & community Services department is very bright. I believe the future of the department directly aligns with the facilities that are to be constructed within the City. I’d like to see the department revisit standards for our parks, their design elements, and how those items align with opportunities for programming in the future. The parks Master Plan is a great tool that could help grow the community’s opportunities as more parks are developed or improved. I would also like to see how the department could help improve the condition of the Big-League dreams complex and operations.

Community recreation is very important to me. I have benefited from community programs all my life and I'm passionate about making sure these programs and more, are available to current and future generations. In addition to participating as a youth, I have served as a lifeguard, instructor, umpire, coach and more, I enjoy giving back. Professionally, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Administration and certified Recreational Therapist. My experience includes teaching, coaching, and athletic director positions at Tracy High and St. Anthony's School in Manteca. There is no substitute for community recreation, parks, art, sports, cultural and other progressive programs.

I have always thought that a more transparent operating budget, increased community input and ideas, clear goals and objectives and a community partnership with private and civic organizations would greatly benefit the city of Manteca.
