2020 parks master plan Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation and City Council adopted the 2020 Master Plan in October of 2020, finalizing 18 months of work that included research, data collection and analysis and extensive public feedback to develop a vision for the future of our parks and an outline of the projects and strategies needed to make it a reality. FOCUS AREAS

Four key areas were identified as the most urgent needs; many projects were identified specifically to address these issues. See full project list and more details on our website mansfieldparks.com.

The plan identified these major projects as well as park-specific renovations and additions. Now that the plan has been approved, MPFDC and City Council will begin working on the strategic business plan to determine the funding and timing for each project over the next few months.

Playgrounds Playgrounds ranked high in priority and usage but are lacking in quantity and quality. Most residents do not have a park near their home, and existing playgrounds are aging and will need replacement in the next 10 years. The master plan calls for upgrading existing structures, adding comfort features like shade for a better experience and identify locations to add amenities in underserved areas.

Recreation & aquatics A multi-generational recreation facility and aquatic options were the most requested items in public feedback. Most communities offer multiple options of each to residents but Mansfield is well behind adopted standards. The master plan calls to expand the Mansfield Activities Center, add a second recreation facility, build family aquatic centers and add splash pads. Adding amenities in parks will also increase recreational opportunities.

The Walnut Creek Linear Park is a favorite across all demographics and activity uses. Public demand is high for greater connectivity and trail mileage. Despite their popularity, Mansfield’s trails are actually well behind standards and benchmarks. The master plan calls for the completion of the Walnut Creek Linear Trail and the addition of more than 40 miles of trail along the identified spine trail network before the city reaches build-out.

Mansfield’s athletic fields are in need of substantial upgrades. By adopted standards, our field count is sufficient, but many of the fields are aging and need updates. With population growth, additional fields may be needed by 2030 but declining participating numbers show demand waning. The advisory committee plans to address athletic fields by adding a new sports complex and upgrading all existing complexes.

Do you have a desire to embrace your inner artist? If so, then this hands-on watercolor workshop is for you. Learn everything you need to create your own painting of a loose style watercolor floral or landscape. The workshop includes the basics of watercolor and supplies will be available for use to leave with your completed painting.

This white through black belt program teaches American Karate as well as anti-abduction and bully self-defense. The curriculum is designed to help students develop self-esteem, positive behavior, respect for others and encourages academic achievement.

Senior Update

Mansfield Senior Lifestyles offers daily activities, celebrations, trips and classes for anyone age 55Y+ looking for enrichment, socialization and entertainment.

Senior Lifestyles programs have been on hold since March 2020 due to the public health emergency. Since then, our staff has worked incredibly hard to bring socialization and enrichment to our seniors with home visits and virtual programs.

We hope to resume normal operations in early 2021 and invite you to contact the MAC or follow us on Facebook @ MansfieldTxParks for updates.

We look forward to seeing everyone again soon!
