THE MESSENGER
Term 2 Week 10 Wednesday 24 June 2026
In the quiet of winter, nature does not cease her work; she gathers her strength in stillness. So too may we step back from striving, embrace a season of rest, and trust that beneath the silence, new life is preparing to emerge.

Dear School Community,
I hope you are looking forward to spending some time with your families over the coming school holidays and that if you are planning on heading up the mountain then the snow begins to fall for you. This year our Winter Festivals are occurring just after the Solstice and while the night will still be long for some time to come, we are now beginning to move back towards the light and to longer days.
Next semester Amy McMahon will be leaving us to take up a teaching position at GGS Timbertop and Lou Jenkins will be taking a 6-month sabbatical and heading to the Northern Territory to work in a remote community.
Amy has worked in the Secondary School since 2020 and together with Oli, has been the guardian of the Year 9 group for the past three years. We will miss her diligence and care for the students along with her good company. Her children will remain with us, and we are hopeful that it won’t be too long before Amy is back on staff again. We wish Amy, Shaune and their family the best on their journey up the hill!
Lou will be back before we know it but in the interim Mellesa

McDiarmid-Heatley has kindly agreed to apply her many skills to the craft position and Sarah Tehan will take Lou’s day in Class 4. We look forward to hearing some stories from up north of Lou’s adventures.
Provided the snow begins to fall, it is exciting to look forward to skiing in Term 3. Thanks in advance to our parent helpers who make these ski days possible.
In Term 3 our Year 10 students will be heading off to France or Timor-Leste. We hope they are beginning to get excited, and we wish them well on their respective journeys. A huge thank you to the parents and staff that made the French students stay possible. It is a significant undertaking to have another teenager in your home and you have been gracious hosts.
Last week the music team held an Extra Curricular Music Concert where our orchestras and vocal ensembles performed. Thanks to all students, staff and parents for your efforts in creating the conditions for our students to experience the joy and satisfaction of bringing something beautiful to life alongside others.
The IBDP Music students presented their work on Tuesday night and did a fantastic job. It is wonderful that we now have the option for students to continue with their musical education right through to Year 12 and that we all get to enjoy the fruits of their efforts.
We are pleased that our senior students are stepping into the role of being school leaders in many ways. Recently they have facilitated assemblies for NAIDOC week, helped with junior orchestras and choirs, ran a dodgeball tournament and assisted with Primary school plays. It is a privilege to be able to witness their continuing growth into capable and compassionate young adults.
Enjoy the Winter rest. By the end of Term 3 it will be Spring!
