-approach - to create a centralized skylit open plaza at the ground level which would connect the two street approaches and link the small urban plaza while the spaces are visually connected to it from various levels.

-APPROACH WAS TO UTILIZE THE TWO OPEN WALL SURFACES FOR LIGHT VENTILATION EFFICIENTLY, -MAKE THEM RESPONSIVE TO THE OUTDOORS FOR INTERACTION & LEISURE. -THE CLUSTER WAS FORMED IN A WAY THAT THE BACKYARDS OF THE INDIVIDUAL UNITS REMAIN CONNECTED & FREE FLOWING FOR INTERACTION.

LOCATION : HEBBAL, BANGALORE SITE - AREA : 2 ACRES, GRADIENT : 8M PROGRAM : 4370 Sq.M - AUDITORIUM, LECTURE SPACES, STUDIOS, REHEARSAL SPACE, ART SHOP, CAFETERIA, ADMIN., GALLERIES, AMPHITHEATER, STUDIO RESIDENCES.

APPROACH : -orienting spaces along the waterfront for an interesting learning experience & in turn trying to dene the water edge led to a linear organization of spaces. this gave an opportunity to explore the idea of breaking monotony of built forms along a datum by creat ing buffers of interesting volumes ; submerged, hidden, open & covered with all leading to vistas of the lake.

-the amphitheater was used not just as a performance space but a connect between varying levels due to the contours.

LEARNING : -sense of movement as an experience through contrasting spaces; open - closed, up - down, hi - low volumes -exploring exibility of spaces & their possibility to be multi-functional -interplay between landmass, slopes & built forms

INDIAN INNOVATION CENTER INDIAN INNOVATION CENTER

The Design of a Campus that serves as an Educational Hub as well as an Industrial Innovation center

LOCATION : YELAHANKA, BANGALORE SITE - AREA : 15 ACRES, GRADIENT : 5 M PROGRAM : 47000 Sq.M - ACADEMIC BLOCK, LABS, LIBRARY, AUDITORIUM, ADMINISTRATIVE BLOCK, INNOVATION CENTER, RESEARCH LABS, WORKSHOPS, STUDENT RESIDENCES

DESIGN & APPROACH : -zoning, orienting & distributing the various programs in a cohesive nature. a study through block models led to the formation of an axis focused towards the small hillock on the site.

-considering A CENTER FOR INNOVATION - necessiated the architecture to be innovative too. this thought inuenced the structural nature & the facade treatment of the innovation block itself.

-a lateral shift in the axis when it interfered with the library - core of knowledge, creates a sense of interest to experience the surrounding landscapes. this continues towards the residential facilities & the water catchment lake thus linking the whole campus.

-staggered built forms as a response to the local climate, response amongst the built masses & also the site. this created a language along the axis of a high volume with interference of projecting masses/corridors/bridges - a space inspired by streets considering the level of interaction happening at various heights, overlooking the lower levels, -interposed by built spaces & pockets of greenery adding to the character.

-the play of light & shadows along this linear stretch was created by imposing a trellis element - an inference from b.v.doshi’s iim, bangalore.

LEARNING : -understanding of a master planning process for a campus design.

-experimenting of basic & simplistic forms; how they inuence the spaces within & spaces around.

-importance of sustainable features as a part of design itself especially for a learning campus. eg: dewats water purifying ststem, innovative design of a shading system that shades as well as generates power.

-creating interesting & interactive spaces gave an understanding of how architecture can catalyze creative processes of learning & innovating.

DESIGN & APPROACH : - propose a new language for a typical transport hub & explore its potential to be more than just a transit node.

- clear circulation loops, pedestrian friendly, conditioned security passage.

- a friendly approach to the immediate residential context through architecture, rather than it being looked upon as negative blob of pollution.

- translate the environment into a space to reach out to the public as an urban plaza.

SOLUTIONS & LEARNING : - the design evolved into creating a public zone as the frontage of the terminus which becomes an amenity for the neighboring residential context.

- eased the circulation to connect to the park adjacent & the metro opposite the terminus.

- added value to the design by creating a lung space - an ultimate necessity, in a chaotic environment.

- explored the possibility of creating public friendly transit zone by giving it an ephemeral outlook.

LOCATION : PARAVUR, ERNAKULAM, KERALA SITE - AREA : 78 ACRES PROGRAM : 12000 SQ.M - MUSEUM, RESEARCH CENTER - LABS, LEARNING AREA, TIME TUNNEL, AMPHITHEATER, CHILDREN ACTIVITY CENTER, SITE WALKWAY, TRENCH CABINS.

DESIGN & APPROACH : design idea of an architectural intervention in an archaeological site, 2000 years old. an architecture that adds value to the site, protects the remains from decay, gives an experience of archaeo - tourism, awareness of conservation & respect to site sensitive approach to site with existing features. narrating a lost age using architecture to create a dialog between the past, present & the absent. palimpsest as a concept where architecture will represent the hidden layers of history beneath us.

SOLUTIONS & LEARNING : - the approach led to an imagination of a built form resembling an excavated artifact from the outside .

- the space inside that goes subterranean expressing the layering of history with a descending depth of space.

- gallery walls that speak the history of the site.

- a subterranean experience in a challenging climate gave knowledge of treating a building sensitively .

- experimenting local & new materials led to invent new methods of construction, translated from native forms.

LOCATION : CBD, SHIVAJINAGAR ZONE, BANGALORE SITE - RUSSELL MARKET PROGRAM : RETHINKING THE MARKET AS A PUBLIC SPACE WITH ENHANCED FUNCTIONS, LINKING THE CONTEXT, REORGANIZING THE STALLS, SERVICING & CONSERVING A HISTORIC FACADE.

DESIGN & APPROACH : - A Market with immense historic value with a strong secular context of mosques, church & temples along with ongoing disputes necessiated a new approach without disturbing the existing fabric of the context.

- the idea was to bring the outside into the market which would give a more sense of openness. the extrovert approach would link people of different communities, religions etc during times of festivals or any other public events.

SOLUTIONS & LEARNING : - an inner urban plaza was created maintaining the walls of the old market to retain the identity of the place.

- certain functions were relocated taking into account the feasibility, proximity & zoning aspects.

- the market was zoned into stalls & ea market areas which were dispersed around the urban plaza. the plaza was treated as a transforming space whose life changed during different times of the day ; starting of as an auction space - to vending space for hawkers (previously spread across the streets) - to a performance area for local artists - ď€ nally to a foodstreet towards the end of the day. idea derived from the marakech square market, morocco.

- the project gave us knowledge of how to handle a space in a sensitive urban fabric, thought of dealing with issues on an urban scale, deriving ideas from studies to make our public spaces recreative in nature.

LOCATION : AVALAHALLI, BANGALORE SITE - CAMPUS OFF BMSIT PROGRAM : PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY ENVIRONS, INTERACTIVE SPACES, RELOCATING PARKING ZONES, CREATING A YOUTHFUL OUTLOOK, ENTRANCE STATEMENT, APPROACH TO BUILDINGS INSIDE.

DESIGN & APPROACH : - a group of 10 students were organized from different batches of the dept. & being a part of the campus as architecture students the approach was made unique.

- as a collaborative unit strategies were worked on basis of collected/interviewed data from the users & observation data.

- needs were listed on basis of this analysis.

- an elegant & lively upliftment was the approach decided to recreate the spaces.

SOLUTIONS & LEARNING : - the project started of as addressing the issues of users - students, drivers, visitors the zoning was reorganized.

- as solutions, we looked forward to redeď€ ne functions of existing potential spaces by resolving the accessibility, comfort & user group.

- pathways were traversed in a way that they are naturally shaded by existing trees & a few canopies added wherever needed.

- parking lots were relocated & the usage of roads were controlled to minimize intersection of leisure spaces & pedestrian zones with vehicular movement.

- the project was taken up as a fun exercise & as a part of learning, it enabled our minds to think vivid but resolve it to a common idea by questioning them.
