CHA 50 Year Pin - Roy Manns

Roy purchased his first purebred Hereford animal from Ron and Everett Batho in the fall of 1966. Her name was Big Hill Fair Fagan Reg No. 620514. She was a horned cow and she was the beginning of a herd.

Roy started the herd in his own name as his father, Tom, said he was too old! However, enjoyed the Herefords and working alongside Roy every step of the way. Roy continued to add to his herd; buying out of Sam Mitchell’s production sales, again from Ron Batho and supported other breeders that consigned to the Pioneer Sale. His first registered Hereford of many was Manns Anxiety 1Y UBT. The herd is now predominately polled, with a focus on functional and productive cattle.

Roy is an annual consignor to Lundar Bull Sale, Manitoba Hereford Association Good as Gold Sale and Prime Plus Bull Sale. He is proud to have his animals working in many herds across Manitoba and Saskatchewan and grateful for the continued support from fellow cattle producers.

The Manns family was honoured to be nominated as the 2013 Manitoba Hereford Commercial Breeder of the Year. Roy and his wife, Sandra, are still actively farming with their son Steven and his family and their daughter, Heather. Steven continues to pursue the Herefords and Heather has a black angus herd and teaches school in MacGregor. Their youngest daughter, Kristen, has a small Red Angus/Hereford cross herd in conjunction with her husband, Kevin Stocki in Fisher Branch.

Roy is honoured to receive his 50 year pin and thanks the Breeders and Association for their support over the years.

Congratulations Roy!
