What are the features of Suprapubic catheters?
The Suprapubic catheter is a thin, sterile tube that can be easily inserted into the body to remove unwanted liquids. It is to be noted that the catheter should be inserted by experts; this is because the Suprapubic catheter is not inserted in the usual way like the normal catheter. It is inserted by making a small cut in the lower belly a little above the pubic bone. It is kept intact by inflating a small balloon inside the belly. The waste liquid from the body is collected by a urine bag which is placed on the thigh of the patients. However, there is a valve in the Suprapubic catheter that can be opened to drain the urine into the toilet or in any other vessel.
