A Festival of Lessons and Carols was developed as a prayer service to celebrate the birth of our Lord with scripture and song. Our program has been adapted from the traditional format and is presented for a contemporary community.

Manhattan University Orchestra

The Manhattan University Orchestra was founded in 2005 and celebrates 20 years this season. Welcoming Manhattan University students, alumni, faculty, and staff, as well as members of our wider community, the Orchestra provides the opportunity to play together in weekly Monday evening rehearsals, perform each semester, and receive coaching from leading instrumentalists. This is Sharon Gunderson’s second year as the music director and conductor.

This ensemble of choristers was founded as the Manhattan College Glee Club when Manhattan University was an all-male school. When the University became a coeducational institution, the name was changed to the Manhattan University Singers. The Singers have performed at many different campus events, including academic convocations. They have toured Europe and have sung in Paris, London and Rome. Andrew Bauer is in his 14th year as conductor and director of Performing Arts.

Manhattan University Jazz Band

The Manhattan University Jazz Band is in its 14th year under the direction of professor Geoffrey Mattoon, and performs a wide variety of music ranging from big band classics by Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington to funk songs by composers such as James Brown. The Jazz Band is open to all students, faculty and staff. The Jazz Band holds concerts at the end of each semester, and performs for events on and off campus.
