Kia ora koutou PB4L In the previous newsletter, you may recall reading about PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning), which is a school-wide framework used to build a culture for positive behaviour and learning. Back then, we were in the process of reviewing our school values to see if they fitted in with what staff, students and community consider to be important. I can now confirm we have settled on the following three values: Resilience, Responsibility and Respect. We believe these three values will help with the next step, which is to create a set of expectations for a range of contexts in and out of school. From these expectations, we can explicitly teach and acknowledge positive behaviours, so that in time they can become second nature. To support this process, we will need the community to be on board, to acknowledge and positively reinforce our shared expectations, for they say ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. The photo to the right is a prime example of a Havelock student modelling Respect for others. This is Dean Metrovich (right) supporting a fellow competitor at the recent Marlborough Cross Country Champs. While running his own race, Dean spotted a runner from another school in need of help, so he showed amazing sportsmanship by helping him to finish the race. We are very proud of Dean for the compassion he has shown here for another competitor. Keep up the great role modelling, Dean. Community This Sunday there is a special meeting for Havelock residents, held at the Havelock Pavilion at 1pm. The Principal purpose of the meeting is to participate in a workshop with Page the intentions of developing a plan for “If there were ever to be an emergency situation in Havelock.” Questions to ponder are ‘how would you get information?’, ‘who can help you?’ and ‘what could you do?’. For more information contact catherine.coates@marlborough.govt.nz or 03 520 7400. Skool Loop Have you got the Skool Loop app?
