Kia ora koutou Back in week 8, we entered 12 of our top senior swimmers in the Marlborough Swim Champ event. They participated in 50M free-style, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly races against students from schools across the Marlborough region. Not all swimmers won their heats to make it to the finals, however they gave it their best shot. Final results were shared last week with Havelock School claiming 5th place overall. Well done team and thank you to the parents who went along to support. A group of keen rugby players have recently been spending their lunch breaks being coached by Fletch to prepare for the 7’s tackle tournament, which was meant to be held last week. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled due to heavy rain. This is the second year in a row the tournament has had to be cancelled, last year due to Covid. While this came as a disappointment to many, we are all grateful for the time and effort Fletch has put into training these players, with skills they will no doubt be able to transfer to their upcoming winter sport season. Our seniors (Y4 - 8) will be competing in the Pelorus Cluster Swim Sports this Friday at Stadium 2000. We wish them all the best. We’ve been lucky to secure this date as Covid Level 2 restrictions interfered with our previously scheduled date (thanks Linkwater School for organising this). Our school pool would normally close for public use at Easter Weekend, however due to the need for us to keep training, it will now close 9pm Sunday 11 April. Please return your pool key to the school office to claim your $20 refund. I wish you all an enjoyable term break and will look forward to seeing all students refreshed and ready for more exciting adventures in Term 2. Ngā mihi Tracey Wearing

News from Havelock Medical Centre: Pricing: Patients with a
Community Services Card receive a discount on general
consultations. The cost of a consult (not treatments) reduces to $19.50 per visit for those people that hold a CSC. Patients have to apply through WINZ for this card. https://www.workandincome.govt.nz/products/a-zbenefits/community-services-card.html if you would like more information. It does not discount the cost of a prescription – we have reduced the cost from $26.00 to $22.00 but this has nothing to do with CSC and holders of that card will continue to pay the same script fee as those without it. The cost of general consultations for those who do not have a CSC or are not part of careplus has gone from $47 to $48.
Enrolments: Havelock
Medical Centre is currently taking new enrolments. This
was paused for 4 weeks over the Christmas Holidays. Unfortunately Dr Bird is retiring this year, so new doctors will need to be trained to work at Havelock. From April we will be placing a halt on enrolments until we have secured a suitable replacement, and we will operate on a one in one out scenario, as we cannot keep increasing patient numbers without a replacement.
Registrars and Nurse Practitioners:
There was a registrar in attendance almost
all of last year with Dr Hodginkson spending quite a bit of her time at Havelock. She has now moved on and has been replaced by Dr Ryo Eguchi. We expect to be able to have Dr Eguchi spend time at Havelock also; once he has found his feet at Springlands. We do also currently have a Nurse Practitioner who just started her placement-based training with us a couple of weeks ago – Lisa is settling in and will hopefully also spend some time in Havelock once she has found her way around our systems here in Springlands.

Te Hoiere Pelorus Project is a catchment restoration project, aiming to look after the whole catchment from the mountains to the sea (ki uta ki tai).
A key step involves the community coming together, and sharing their ideas for an Integrated Catchment Enhancement Plan (ICEP) for Te Hoiere Pelorus. The ICEP identifies the community’s aspirations and prioritises actions towards achieving these aspirations.
The survey will take about 10-12 mins. All responses will remain anonymous. To learn more about the project, please get in touch with Heather Collins: heather@heathercollins.co.nz (03) 572-8876 (021) 264-9640. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
RONGA RESERVE OPEN DAY Sunday 9th May, 10:00-1:00pm Ronga Reserve is an ecologically important forest remnant in the Te Hoiere Pelorus catchment. Surrounded by valley streams with oxbow wetlands and springs, it is home to endangered long-tailed bats, towering totara and pygmy button daisy. Battling floods, droughts and invasive weeds, the project has replanted 1000 trees every year, undertaken plant maintenance, and controlled weeds since 2014. Lessons have been learnt along the way! The Open Day aims to give landowners and community groups tips and tricks for restoration planting. Hear how the project: • Phased planting into manageable bites • Maintained plants to increase survival • Managed restoration in a flood zone • Used volunteer groups • Controlled weeds • Pest control Free BBQ lunch provided. Bring solid shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a chair/blanket to sit on. Please RSVP and for further details to Wendy: wendy.sullivan@landcare.org.nz Postponement date: Sunday 16th May
