Kia ora It was wonderful to see how seamlessly everybody pulled together to support each other in the transition back to lockdown mode recently. Our school whanau also did amazingly well as a team to tackle the challenges of online/home learning at such short notice. A huge thank you to all of our staff who each did amazing jobs by creating authentic learning opportunities, communicating with families and monitoring both well being and participation. Thanks also to the parents and carers who became teachers for the duration of Alert Levels 3 and 4 - you all did a great job! We had a larger group of students who returned to school in Level 3 this time around, however still just the one ‘bubble’. A special mention goes to these kids as this was a very challenging time for them. Restrictions at school during Level 3 are very tight, meaning these kids had no access to any shared equipment such as PE gear, the playground was closed and they were constantly reminded to stay out of each others’ zones. It was a challenge for both staff and students. About the only fun activity we could engage in together was dancing, spread out on the turf. Some residents local to the school may have heard the afternoon dance parties! See photos below! Alert Level 2 back at school does not quite mean business as usual for us, but I’m happy to say the kids are engaging well with classroom learning, thanks to the team efforts from parents, teachers and students for continuing some form of routine during lockdown. It’s great to see all the kids having fun socialising again, as this has the biggest affect on their well-being, for adults too! Level 2 still restricts us from having on site gatherings and events where we would normally invite parents/visitors, as we then instantly principal fall into the ‘public gathering’ category. For this reason, we won’t be holding any assemblies during Level 2. The community library also remains closed while at Alert Level 2.
