Kia ora Our visit to Te Hora Marae was a huge success. Thank you to everybody for pulling together to help on the day. On our return to school Selena and a team of Pelorus students made bouquets of flax flowers to send to helpers to say thank you. Don’t they look fantastic! Some of our Y5 to 8 students were selected last week to participate in the Marlborough Primary Schools Cross Country Champs. Well done to all who gave it their best and improved on last year’s placings. We had two Yr 8 boys, (Max Skehan and Leo Langley) who placed within the top 5 in their race and have therefore been invited to join the team to represent Tasman (a combined Nelson/Marlborough Regional Team) at the Inter-Regional Schools Cross Country Championships in Timaru in late September. Next week our Year 7 and 8 students are braving the cold and heading to Rainbow Ski-field for snowboarding and ski lessons. Look out for photos in our next newsletter. Ngā mihi Tracey Wearing

As term three progresses the FOHS are pleased to donate a skate ramp to the school with a small portion of the funds we have fundraised, we are hoping the students get hours of fun out of it. The FOHS meet once per month to discuss ideas for fundraising and to organise events for the community such as the disco we ran at the end of last term for the Havelock school students which was a fantastic success. If you are interested in joining this fun-loving group please check out our FB page.

Hi Netball Community, This Saturday August 14th is the final game for Y5&6. Teams will be dressing up for a fun day. Candidates for Outward Bound Havelock Lions Club are still looking for someone who thinks they would benefit from an Outward arranges sponsorship for a young person aged between 18 and 25 to attend a classic Outward-Bound course this year. If you know of someone who lives in or has been educated in the Pelorus area let us know. The course runs for 21 days and during this time our candidate will experience all outdoor elements and activities Outward Bound has to offer including sailing, kayaking, bushcraft and navigation. However, the most important aspect of the course will be the realisation that our candidate can rise to the challenge realising his or her potential and learning that, with perseverance, dreams can be achieved.

Our candidate will: 1. Challenge him/herself and push limits 2. Reflect, discover what is important to them and determine their future direction 3. Learn about themselves from both success and failure to take their confidence and motivation to the next level 4. Discover what it takes to create effective relationships and be part of a successful team 5. Develop a stronger sense of personal responsibility in responses to real and challenging situations. An application can be obtained from Ian Cameron (phone 574 2558 email ianc.cameron@xtra.co.nz ). Applications close on 30th August 2021 and all candidates will be interviewed. You will be advised who the successful person is by 13th September.

We will also have the Jennian Homes Gazebo set up with a station for players (of all ages) to write thank you cards to their coaches and other volunteers. There will be fun games and prizes to be won including T-shirts, Hoodies and Chocolate!! There will be a shooting long distance competition, hoola hoop and other ball skill activities with plenty of prizes to be won. Please encourage all players to pop over and participate and write out some thank you cards for their coaches, umpires, volunteers and supporters. Please note that under Cadbury guidelines and NNZ rules, children under the age of 14 cannot be given a chocolate prize unless permission is given by an adult accompanying them. The Gazebo will be available from 10am-1pm so pop in and join in the celebrations!! Thanks
