How did Aboriginal Textile Evolve?
Indigenous art is centred on storytelling and conveying information about the Aboriginal people's land, events and beliefs. Using symbols is an alternate way to write down stories of cultural significance, teaching survival and land use.
Symbols are used by Aboriginal people in their art to preserve their culture and tradition. The print on the aboriginal dresses are also used to depict various stories and are still used today in contemporary Aboriginal Art.

Much Aboriginal art has been widely studied and documented, but one area that is growing in popularity is textile art - clothes or fabrics. The aboriginal fabrics for the dresses are an important part of many cultures, but since they are generally made of organic materials, they're not always the best preserved.
Few examples of ancient Aboriginal textiles have survived. Most Aboriginal textiles were made in one of three ways: animal skin, bark and hair.

1. The animal skin was processed and turned into blankets or cloaks.
2. Expert weavers learned to strip the bark into long threads that were woven together in various styles to create patterns. Bark weaving was done by hand and utilised for making baskets and bags for different forms of clothing, like Aboriginal fabric patchwork.
3. Human hair was used to create strong textiles. The hair was spun into yarn, sometimes alone and sometimes mixed with bark, which could be woven into clothing items, blankets, bags, and other items.
Many of the Aboriginal traditions are put up on the fabric by the Aboriginal artists to explain their stories. If you are planning to get the Aboriginal printed fabric on a wholesale basis for your dress, why not buy them online from M&S Textiles Australia?
