DESK OF Mr & Mrs Roach

r i e ess Driving through southern Alabama, there was a car dealership that boasts a rather large United States flag. Billowing at full staff, it was absolutely majestic as it seemed to cover the full span of the highway. Though our destination was set and our conversation was fully engaged, it interrupted our thoughts and the image has remained with us. Inspiration can be found in that moment, posing the question “Are we that captivating and impactful given such a small window of time?” The freedom in which the flag moved with the wind is similar to our longing to be aligned with the flow of grace. Recalling an illustration that someone shared with us some time ago, “the Holy Spirit is like the wind – you cannot see it, only evidence of its presence.” Imagine that peace and freedom that you experience when you’re in alignment, when you move in the rhythm and flow of grace. What does that look like in your life? Do others get to experience such grace when they are in your presence? For some, having this type of experience is a foreign concept. Yes, it requires work and persistence, but more importantly it requires vulnerability. Will you humble yourself and seek God? We are grateful for the reminder that humility is the seed for forgiveness, and forgiveness is the seed for peace and freedom. These fruit that we bear benefits us and those around us.

There was a little girl in Crystal Springs (Brushy Creek) that dreamed of a life filled with glamour and significance and there was a little boy in Yazoo City that dreamed of adventure. Both of them would often look into the night sky and wonder if those dreams would ever come true. Dreamers are often lonely, but in 2010 these kindred spirits began dating and their great life’s journey began. Joanne Bell Wright is the Founder of Woman To Woman With Joanne The Organization and The Magazine. She is also a licensed Independent Life and Health Insurance Agent representing Allstate Insurance Company, TransAmerica and Wellcare Health Plans. Joanne’s love of singing landed her a performance on the world-renowned stage of the Apollo Theater in 1998. In 2012, she auditioned for Sunday’s Best, where she made it to the second round of auditions. Today, Joanne is a member of the Worship Ministry at Pinelake Church Madison’s Campus. She has landed numerous acting roles in Soul Damage The Movie (coming soon), an extra in The Help, Girl Trip and the TV show Nashville, and continues to sing at weddings, events, and special occasions. In addition, Joanne is an Inspirational Speaker, an aspiring author currently writing books titled, “Fear Was My Friend” and “Daily Affirmations With Joanne,” and she loves sharing stories of Mississippi women by providing a platform through her monthly magazine. In 2017 she was awarded the EPWA Business Women’s Leadership Award, in 2018 she was honored as a SHERO and in 2018 her organization Woman To Woman With Joanne was the TAPS (Thich And Proud Sisters) Showcase Donation Recipient. Maximus Wright is a Writer, Director and Producer and is he is a 1997 graduate of Tougaloo College where he majored in Philosophy and Religion with an emphasis in English. Maximus has been mentored and trained by “Mamie Brown’s Baby Boy,” Les Brown, as a motivational speaker and has traveled the country speaking and conducting seminars. In 2013 Maximus started Phoenix Rising Entertainment, a company focused on developing and producing Mississippi talent. Maximus has quickly risen from writing and producing music, and directing and writing sketch comedy routines, to writing books and directing movies. Maximus has written three books: Soul Damage (2017), My Name is Lola (2017), and Prophet (2019). Maximus has two films to his credit: My Name is Lola (2017) and Soul Damage (2018) starring Yohance Myles, Tony Grant of Tyler Perry’s Love Thy Neighbor, and Palmer Williams, Jr. of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Currently, Maximus is working on his third film, a documentary, a web series, an episodic project and a western. Maximus is also a 2016 Young, Gifted, and Empowered- Young Professional On the Rise award recipient, a 2017- Beacon of Hope Honoree, and a 2018- Black Men Rock award recipient. Maximus is dedicated to telling the stories that need to be told and creating a platform for the next generation of Mississippi talent. Palmer Williams said,” Maximus Wright is starting as an indie right now but he will be one of the big boys and one of the founders in the film industry in Mississippi.” Maximus and Joanne have a common goal to be examples for their children and all the little boys and girls of Mississippi, to prove that it’s not where you start in life but where you finish. We are not limited by our resources; we are only limited by our lack of imagination. “As we allow our light to shine, it gives others the permission to do so.” Together, they have eight (8) children, 4 boys and 4 girls. Antonetta, Antonio, Jr., Jaime, Jeremiah, Joshua, Zacharius, JaMya and Jordan. They are all allowing their own lights to shine and making a difference in their own way as well! Proud parents we are!

REVIEW

WHO ARE YOU AS A COUPLE? E have one common goal. To touch the lives of others with the gifts and talents that God has given to us. We know that these talents and gifts are not for us, but to be shared with the world and the people around us. WHAT THINGS DO YOU ADMIRE ABOUT YOUR SPOUSE? JOANNE I admire Maximus as a wonderful inspirational man. I love to watch him in his element of motivational speaking and encouraging others and I His heart for people and the work he is called to do is so inspiring to me.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE YOURSELF TO FUNCTION AS YOUR BEST SELF IN YOUR ROLE AS A SPOUSE? JOANNE I pray as much as possible. I know that my life is not just Joanne’s anymore. It’s not just about me and what I want. I have to take under consideration what he thinks and how he feels about any decision that I make, because I know that my choices not only

MAXIMUS Joanne is literally a world class talent with small town humility. I admire her commitment to excellence and her never give up attitude. Behind that beautiful smile is a lioness. She balances me, I can’t begin to tell you how many things would be broken around the house if she didn’t take whatever it was out of my hands and tell me to slow down and be calm.

MAXIMUS I just focus on making sure her needs are met. I don’t know if it’s something I prepare for as much as just who I naturally am. I think there’s a lot of truth in “a happy wife, a happy life.” When she is good, I think she makes it easier for me to function as a spouse.

LOVE MARRIAGE & PARTNERSHIP | THE REVIEW

HOW DO YOU UTILIZE YOUR DIFFERENCES INDIVIDUALLY AS ASSETS TO YOU AS A COUPLE? JOANNE Maximus has the ability to see a problem coming beforehand and how it could possibly play out. Because of that, he is able to put a plan in place, if I listen, to avoid that potential problem. MAXIMUS Joanne is more meticulous than I am, which saves me a lot of problems when I’m moving too fast. I tend to see the best in everyone, which is great in ministry, but not in business. Her instincts, when I listen, normally save me a lot of headaches later. WHAT DOES PARTNERSHIP IN MARRIAGE MEAN TO YOU? It means everything to us. We don’t have big egos in our marriage. It’s all about the mission or the success of whatever we are doing, from making a movie to cleaning the house. There are no roles in the partnership that are demeaning or monarchist. Whatever the other is better at is usually their role, but ultimately, it’s how do we make the family, team, and mission better. AS PARTNERS IN MARRIAGE, WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL? WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE TO OBTAIN IT? JOANNE Our ultimate goal is to serve one another. To love one another and aid each other in whatever way possible to bring the vision God has given to each of us into fruition. Why? Because when he wins, I win and vice I I I feel to allow him the freedom to do what God has called him to do. MAXIMUS Our ultimate goal is to laugh every day. Why? Accomplishments will come and go and at the end of life, it won’t be the goals that matter, but the memories I the need to be right or temporary comfort for long term happiness.

WHO IS THE MR AND MRS THAT PEOPLE DON’T GET TO SEE? JOANNE Most people don’t see our goofy side. We love to watch movies together and laugh at all the funny parts. We have little codes that we use when we see something in public that reminds us about something we’ve talked about or laughed about. MAXIMUS I think we are very transparent. Maybe they don’t see how funny we are. WHAT IS A SCRIPTURE THAT YOU BOTH USE AS YOU FUNCTION IN A PARTNERSHIP? JOANNE 1 John 4:18 says, There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear..... MAXIMUS You will win if you don’t quit

REDO A ROOM: So maybe you’ll never be on Fixer Upper, but that doesn’t mean you can’t unleash your inner Chip and Joanna. Get to painting and redecorating a room in your house — even if it’s just by adding little touches to make it more you. GO SHOPPING: And play stylist for one another. You may be surprised how well he knows your sense of style, and vice versa. HEAD TO THE SPA: The idea of a spa can seem intimidating, but done right, a visit can be an awesome way to unwind. “Ask for side-byside facials, body treatments, or massages, advises Melinda Minton, executive director of The Spa Association. “To make the most of the day, look for a facility with complimentary amenities like a dry sauna or a mineral pool. And don’t be afraid to ask for a day pass, which means you’ll be allowed to hang out and spend the day chilling after your service. Ahh-some.. ATTEND A FILM FESTIVAL: No need to book tickets to the south of France: Chances are your town, or a town nearby, hosts its own festival where you can scope out features from future auteurs.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN LOVE &

PURPOSE REUNITE?

THE ESSENCE OF MARRIAGE IS REVEALED L

O

V

E

We present love with a serious approach that challenges society’s modern perception that love is a feeling. Their insightful view of the true meaning and ultimate function of love compels you to reflect on your personal view and understanding of what love is, and how it is to be applied. We are all in need of love, and cannot function without it; however, it is our lack of knowledge, diverse conceptions, and varied levels of maturity that prevent us from giving and receiving love in a way that is both operative and sustaining.

MARRIAGE

We tactically illustrate the parallels of getting married and being married as they explain the image of marriage versus the essence of marriage. Knowing that love alone does not constitute a good marriage, they define the roles of the husband and wife, what needs must be met, and the purpose for the institution of the union. James and Natasha share features that have personally helped them in the growth of their marriage.

P A R T N E R S H I P

We broaden the novel perception of marriage as they build the idea of a marriage being a partnership. In a marriage, you become ONE. With this belief, James and Natasha ask what is the one thing that you represent as a couple? What singular vision do you have as a couple? What purpose are you serving as a couple? What gift are you sharing as a couple? Through personal observation and intentionally studying successful couples in partnership for over a decade, they explain the necessity of a mastermind alliance in your partnership, how to add value to what you do in your marriage, and what the fulfillment of your work in partnership is provision for.

91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

CLEANSE HER. LISTEN TO HER. Listening to your wife allows you to really understand her, and see her inner-most thoughts. You also see her needs. Being able to listen is one of the greatest gifts that you can give to your wife. When you listen, understand that she is not asking for your advice, she is simply looking for you to be open to her feelings and thoughts. Listening allows you to see what she is saying, how she is saying it, and most importantly, why she is saying it. By listening, you can discern whether your wife is seeking your advice or answer.

PAY ATTENTION TO HER. The more you listen to your wife, the better attention allows you to learn major and minor details about your wife, such as knowing her favorite things, her love language, when to do things for her, and how to read her moods. When you pay attention to your wife, you can tell when she wants to do something or have something, but denies it to accommodate you

Cleansing your wife takes loving her mind, body and soul to a new level. As a husband we are taught to cleanse our wife by washing her with the word of God. As we listen and pay attention to her, please be aware that from day to day so much negativity, Sometimes it’s visible and sometimes suppressed. To cleanse her we must pray with and for her daily, speak positive things into her life daily, speak the word of God with her daily and patently help her to focus on the positive only each and every day. As you cater to her as the weaker vessel the stronger she will be.

BE A GENTLEMAN (CHIVALRY) WITH HER. Being a gentleman shows your wife that you’re a chivalrous, courteous and an honorable man. Doing this consistently will give your wife the assurance that you love and honor her worth. Your wife deserves to have her doors opened, her chair pulled out, having her her plate, just to name a few. Being a gentleman is one of the greatest ways to honor your wife, not only for what she does but ultimately for who she is to you. As husbands let’s show our wives and the world that chivalry is alive and well.

SET GOALS THAT STRETCH HER. being able to recognize who God is in your wife, the strengths and gifts that He’s placed the way she deserves to be loved.

APPRECIATE HER. As a husband it should be a privilege to appreciate your wife every chance you get. Appreciation shows her that all she does has value. Our wives do so much daily to make sure all our needs are met as well as running a household. Appreciate your wife by saying thank you every chance you get. Learn how to edify her at all times letting the world know that she is your gift from the Lord. Appreciate her time, her loving, her respect, her patients, her thoughts and her value to your life. This is an action that will always keep a smile on her face.

Being the visionary of the home it is our job to set the bar high with everything that we do, including setting goals. The goals should include you and your wife at all times. Because we as husbands desire to see all God has instore for our wives, it is good to set all goals bigger than life. High goals are put into place so that we have to be stretched and grow to reach them. As husbands stretching our wives shows her that we believe in her. Believing in our wives is one of the highest forms of love and appreciation.

PLACE HER AS YOUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD. Yes, place her before parents, children, the household responsibilities, work-related duties, and all the other things that attempt to press their way in front

of your wife. Establishing and maintaining this priority is one way of fostering peace, better communication, and productivity within your home and relationship.

LOVE GOD AND BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. This must be priority over all other things. It is not possible to know God and not love Him, and it is impossible to love someone else and not love God. Establishing a loving relationship with God will properly equip you with the strength and wisdom to truly love your husband with an unconditional lovean Agape love. Furthermore, the love that you have for God allows you to accept His commands, and grow in understanding of His word. As your relationship with God grows, so will it with your husband as God shows you how to submit to your husband as unto Christ. LOVE YOURSELF AND HAVE AN INCREASING DESIRE TO BETTER YOURSELF. The better woman that you become, his inspiration to be better is also increased. He sees you as a suitable helper, a true partner – one who completes him as opposed to competes with him. By focusing on positive change within yourself, your husband will view you as someone to be honored, instead of feeling like you’re trying to change him. Also, it may be necessary to tell him that you are working to make yourself better, so that you can be a better help to him. BELIEVE IN AND BUILD UP THE MAN THAT HE IS TO BE. It is vital that you always keep a positive image of who your husband is to be. This takes work on your part, but it’s worth it in the end. There will be moments where it’s easy to see your husband’s weaknesses or areas you feel he needs to grow in, but trust in God to mold and change him. Continue to build him up, encourage him, speak to and treat him like the man that he is to become. Also, be careful not to compare him to anyone else. Ultimately, you want him to be his best self, who God designed him to be – which is more than what you may desire him to be within a moment.

LET YOUR THOUGHTS, WORDS, AND ACTIONS ALWAYS BE POSITIVE OF HIM. This requires self-discipline on many levels. It has often been said that when we do things, we do them three times: in our mind, in our words, and in our actions. Often, there is much emphasis on guarding what we say or do, because those are external things that others can see. However, our thoughts are internal which only God can see. Don’t allow negative thoughts to build up against what you know is true about your husband – that he is your good and perfect gift from the Lord, and that he is fearfully and wonderfully made. Through prayer, fasting, meditation, and God’s word, tear down the strongholds that have built themselves up in regard to your husband so that your words and actions may always be positive both publicly and privately. HONOR HIM AS THE PRIEST, PROVIDER, AND PROTECTOR OF YOUR HOME. TEACHER AppreciationWeek How great is your imagination? However colorful it is, picture a sales associate. Better yet, picture yourself as a sales associate, who has the delightful pleasure of servicing the same 20 to 100 plus customers every single day. You have a few customers that are serious shoppers who know exactly what they want, they make your job easy, and their daily “purchases” make your sales skills look so darn good, you hate to even take credit for it some days. Then there are the customers who know they need something, but they aren’t quite sure what it is. They make up the majority of your customer base. You know the ones who just want to browse. They haphazardly try on a number of items, make a few random purchases, and you make sure to go over your return policy and give them their proof of purchase, because they will be back, lacking satisfaction with their purchase. Oh and your day wouldn’t be complete without the handful of difficult customers. They come in frustrated! Maybe they’re upset about something from another store, or even home. Sometimes you wonder “How can they be this challenging every day? Is this a hobby for them? This must be intentional.” You graciously deal with all of these customers daily while remembering that your managers have set what appears to be unrealistic quotas for current merchandise, while promoting new items, and reminding customers of last season’s deals. You look at the clock and breathe a sigh of relief because you’ve maintained your area all day, overlooked the fact that Frank from the other department ate your lunch from the staff lounge, and your shift is about to end. Just when you’re about to close your sales for the day, your manager reminds you that there is a video that you have to watch for HR, and there is a customer flagging you down so you can show them again how to go online to download the coupon for their next purchase. As you walk into the parking lot, rattling your keys, hungry, and debating how to get back at Frank for taking your lunch, you smile with a sense of weariness and joy. You have to do it all over again tomorrow. May 6-10 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Next to parents, teachers have one of the most trying sales jobs on the planet. How’d you like to see your clients and customers every day for the better part of a year? Well, the teachers that you send your beloved little ones to do just that and more. Hopefully, you take some time this week to show your appreciation. Remember the end of the school year is fast approaching. If you don’t have school aged children, drop in to your neighborhood school with something special for the staff.

Gift Card: You cannot go wrong with a gift card to a restaurant, spa, coffee shop, or book store. You’re probably thinking it would be cool to get a gift card for a school supply store or something of that nature, but let this gift of appreciation be just for them and not something they can use in the classroom. Gourmet Gifts: Nothing says delightful like specialty pastries, chocolates, fruits, coffees, or teas. A little flattery can be just the thing a teacher needs to ease away a very taxing day with people just outside of their age range. Give them a sophisticated, mature way to unwind with a gift of appreciation that not only tastes great, but is aesthetically pleasing as well. Personal Video: Create a fun, personal video featuring students, other parents, or even community members to celebrate the occasion. Make arrangements to send it to the teacher personally through email or the most appropriate media.

FLINCHING

From foster care to living in too many shelters to count, depression and suicidal attempts, Carlotta Taylor, author and speaker, knows that it was nothing but the grace of God that kept her from jail, the streets or worse. Transferred from 26 various foster care homes because of abuse and neglect, she learned early on that if she didn’t transform her mind, she would be consumed by the chaotic world around her. Realizing that nothing just happens—and that God uses even our suffering to be a blessing— Carlotta seeks to inspire others to press beyond their breaking point, even if she only touches one person.

Severely beaten by her father, and suffering mental, spiritual and physical abuse in the many foster homes she once resided in, Carlotta encourages people worldwide to know that their difficulties in life do not have to define their future. As a former homicide detective, child protection detective, and former federal officer, with over 15 years law enforcement experience, she knew she had to use her knowledge and wisdom to effect greater change in and around the community. As the founder of Somebody Step In, Inc., a non-profit for foster children, teens and young adults, she offers coaching and mentorship in education, life skills and more. Her extensive professional and personal background has opened doors for her to serve as a motivational speaker at schools, catholic charities and shelters. After having received three accommodation awards in law enforcement, even in her retirement, it is crystal clear that this is not just a career for her. It’s Ministry.

After searching for her purpose for years, she soon learned that her purpose was to share her story and inspire others who may be going through what she endured and overcame triumphantly. And even though she’s great at everything from makeup, hair and art—and even truck driving—she gets no greater fulfillment than that of walking someone through their healing process. Suddenly, life as she knew it all made sense. In her debut book, No More Flinching, Carlotta outlines five key steps to overcoming adversity. Flinching was the reaction she had right before her father oftentimes punched her in the face. But even after he and her mother divorced, the damage already done, she still flinched if someone reached for something near her. Until one day, it all stopped. She didn’t flinch anymore. More importantly, she learned how to truly forgive her father. Holding both a Bachelor of Arts in Social Services and a Master’s in Science and Leadership from Belhaven University, Carlotta is using her educational, spiritual and emotional skill sets to host workshops under Somebody Step In, Inc., which will include goal setting, journaling, gear and gift cards to attendees. With her strong spirit of discernment, clear vision about the future, wit and love for others, she’s committed to kicking procrastination to the curb and shining her light brightly for all to see. And she encourages others to do the same.

WHY MEN LOVE

In honor of knowing what you deserve I thought it would be nice to share with you what I’m currently reading. It’s called “Why Men Love *****” by Sherry Argove. To give you a brief summary, this book teaches women how to hold their own in a relationship while getting to know themselves. ALLOW HIM TO CHASE YOU. Men love to chase what they want and sometimes we as women make it to easy for them. Give him a mental challenge; he should never think you can’t live without him. Your availability should be selective, don’t always drop everything for his benefit. Make him work for it and if he doesn’t keep it movin’ sis. MEN PREFER A FEISTY WOMAN. Men love women who can stand their ground and put them in their place. Don’t be a doormat. Demand respect! WHEN YOU NAG, HE SEES WEAKNESS. Have you ever found yourself talking and talking and he breathes heavily while rolling his eyes? Yep. Ok, its probably because you were nagging him. If you’re having to repeat yourself more than twice it is time to stop talking and start acting. Through your actions show him you are no longer bothered and this can help renew his respect. ‘“For example, don’t show your feelings for a little while. Don’t explain why. Don’t say this is the “new me.” Just be cool and show him with actions. Switching it up will open his eyes and he will see you differently.

ACT LIKE A PRIZE AND YOU’LL TURN HIM INTO A BELIEVER. Men love a confident women who does not wear her insecurities on her sleeve. Always requiring validation from your significant other shows you don’t know your worth or value. Yes, we have our good and bad days but don’t ever put yourself down. How you see yourself is how he will see you. Also, when he knows you aren’t threatened by other women he has no other choice but to see your worth. MOST WOMEN ARE STARVING TO RECEIVE SOMETHING FROM A MAN THAT THEY NEED TO GIVE THEMSELVES. When I read this I was like WOW! YAS! First and foremost, I feel it’s important for everyone to have a relationship with themselves before getting into a relationship with someone else. Self love is the best love and if you don’t fully know and love yourself how can you expect someone else to? So many times I have seen people give up what they love for a relationship. If you find yourself giving up control and making big sacrifices you will end up empty handed. Men love when you have your own thing going on and living your life to the fullest.

I HOPE THESE TIPS HELP YOU AS MUCH AS THEY HAVE HELPED ME.

God show me your strength that’s in me. With good intention, I have wrongfully gone into battle on my own, using old weaponry of grace and mercy. I’ve become frustrated, but not tired. I see this army that has come upon me, and though I’m able to slay some, many more come, more aggressive than before. As I fight, I can feel the warmth of that most precious stone that You gave to me- securely tucked away, wrapped in a beautiful purple cloth of fine velvet and silk, and resting inside a sturdy leather pouch that rests tightly against my heart. I can feel the dampness of the pouch sticking to me as I sweat through battle. For this one jewel, this most precious stone is my enemies’ trophy of defeat. As strategic warfare is waged against me, I know they have the taste of my demise on their salivating tongues, awaiting the moment when they can snatch away my stone to carry back, bragging about another one gained. Lord I’ve heard of the monument they’ve created with all of the stones of joy that they’ve viciously taken from your warriors- warriors that wrongfully entered battle without proper armor. As I slay another savage beast, I immediately feel a piercing as another entangles me into his snare. I cry out to You, and I feel Your presence! Glorious You are, in such majesty! Your light kills every evil thing, and delivers me! Your presence strengthens me, and I’m able to stand. While in your embrace, I feel for the pouch resting over my heart, and there, still intact, is my most precious stone of joy.

Recently, we’ve taken a huge step of faith towards what we know is our purpose in life, and there have been some expected challenges. Our greatest challenge has been the battle that is fought in our minds daily as we walk this journey of purpose. Despite the circumstance, God’s word tells us to have joy. In fact, there are many scriptures about JOY, the purpose of it, and how it functions. God tells us to guard our hearts (our mind), and we do that by having JOY. The only way that we will be able to fight the fight of faith is to have the joy of the Lord which is our strength. We choose daily to have joy. God gives it to us when we simply rejoice and praise Him.

When we begin to fight battles of negative thoughts, thoughts that go against what God has told us, we may become frustrated and even weary. We become frustrated and weary because we are functioning off of old joys. The same applies to feeling as if we are fighting alone. While we’re in the fight, we began to praise God in order to restore our strength. The enemy wants nothing more than to steal our joy, because without it, we cannot fight the fight of faith. So, rejoice in the Lord always, again I say, REJOICE!

Have you found yourself battling in your thoughts? Perhaps you’re fighting to have joy in your life despite your circumstances. Have you found it difficult at times to praise God because of the pain or uncertainty that you’re experiencing? Review the following scriptures and their surrounding texts to help bring you back to that place of joy.

Psalm 94: 19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. (NIV) Psalm 149: 4 For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation. (NKJV) Zephaniah 3: 17 The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. (NIV) John 16: 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 12: 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (NIV)
