A Night to Remembe A Night to Remembe

If you're looking for an evening that blends delicious food, vibrant culture, and unforgettable entertainment, Zaatar Syrian Lebanese Restaurant is the place to be.

The atmosphere at Zaatar is warm and inviting, with traditional décor that sets the tone for an authentic experience. The highlight of the night? The mesmerizing bellydancing performance. The dancer moved with such grace and energy—it was captivating. The live music added an extra layer of excitement, turning the entire dining area into a celebration. It wasn’t just entertainment; it was a cultural showcase that brought the restaurant to life

After dinner, we relaxed with a shisha. The flavors were smooth and aromatic, definitely worth trying. Sitting back under the night sky with friends, sharing stories over shisha, and soaking in the ambiance made for a perfect ending to the evening.

Of course, the food deserves its own praise. From the rich, creamy hummus to the perfectly grilled meats and fragrant salads, every bite was a delight. The service was attentive, and the staff clearly took pride in making sure we had a memorable night. Zaatar isn’t just a restaurant it’s an experience. Whether you're a fan of Middle Eastern cuisine, live performance, or simply looking for a fun night out, I highly recommend giving it a visit

George Abbey

What inspired your move from the UK to Cyprus?

There were a number of reasons behind the move. Ever since I first came to Cyprus to play professional football back in 2010, I fell in love with the island the lifestyle, the weather, the people The way of life here really suits my personality We actually got married in Cyprus in 2015, so it already held a special place in our hearts. My wife’s family is based here too, so in many ways, it felt inevitable that we’d eventually make the move It just felt like the right place to build both a life and a business.

How has the transition been, both personally and professionally?

Personally it’s been amazing so far. We’ve met so many great people who we now consider close friends, and the warmth and support we’ve received from the local community has been incredible. Everyone we’ve come across has been so friendly and welcoming, which really helped us settle in quickly.

Professionally, things are off to a great start I’ve launched group fitness classes that are steadily growing, and I’m looking to boost attendance even more in the coming weeks. I’ve also started offering one-on-one personal training, which has been really rewarding and I’m now in a position to take on more clients in the weeks and months ahead. It’s exciting to see things building momentum

What are the biggest differences you've noticed in lifestyle and fitness culture between the UK and Cyprus?

best way. It’s much more relaxed and peaceful compared to the UK, where things often feel rushed and stressful That slower pace of life has been a really positive change

As for the fitness culture, I haven’t seen huge differences inside the gym just yet people are focused and motivated in both countries. But what I have noticed in Cyprus is how many people of all ages are getting outside and staying active

Whether it's walking, running, swimming, or training at outdoor gyms, there’s a real culture of movement, and I think the great weather plays a big part in that.

How would you describe your training style or philosophy?

My training style is results-driven but always clientfocused . I focus on creating sessions that are effective, adaptable, and enjoyable the goal is to keep clients consistently motivated while moving toward their individual goals. Proper technique and smart progression are key pillars in my approach, but just as important is the atmosphere I aim to create a fun, supportive, and community-driven environment where clients feel empowered, confident, and part of something bigger than just a workout.

How do you keep clients motivated—especially in a relaxed, holiday-style environment like Cyprus?

Motivation starts with strong relationships. When I truly understand each client their goals, personality, and lifestyle I can tailor an approach that works for them. In a relaxed, holiday-style environment like Cyprus, it’s especially important to strike the right balance between enjoying the process and staying focused on the end goal. I believe in teamwork we set realistic, achievable goals together and I support them every step of the way to stay consistent and accountable. One of my biggest strengths is making sessions fun and engaging When people enjoy the training, they’re far more likely to stick with it and see long-term results.

What’s your personal fitness mantra or go-to motivational quote?

“Believe and Achieve”

strength of the mind whether in fitness, business, or life. The most successful people didn’t get there by chance; they had a vision, they believed in it, and they worked consistently to make it happen.

I try to instill that mindset in my clients as well. Once you believe in yourself and your goals, you’re already halfway there.

It’s simple but powerful I’ve always believed in the cyf1t

The Evolving Rules of Engagement in Modern Dating:

From Primal Instincts to Balanced Dynamics

As a male dating coach, I have observed the profound shifts in modern dating dynamics

The term "entitled" can describe some women's approach today, not as a criticism, but as a reflection of broader societal changes. Traditionally, men initiated courtship; however, with greater gender equality and women's independence, many now wait for interest or act only when strongly compelled Social media and reality shows promote visual perfection and high standards, leaving men hesitant. In my work, women often ask why men no longer approach, highlighting a social stalemate that breeds frustration yet offers chances for equitable connections

To grasp these rules, we trace their evolution from primal roots. For millennia, instincts governed pairings: men driven by survival, women selecting for strength and provision. Relationships focused on reproduction, not romance, with monogamy rare Modern dating emerged in the late 19th century, shifting from supervised, transactional courtships arranged for economic gain to scheduled outings. The Victorian era emphasised chivalry and restraint, with subtle signals like a dropped handkerchief allowing approaches while preserving propriety.

The 20th century brought seismic changes, especially for women. The contraceptive pill in the 1960s enabled career pursuits and autonomy, challenging patriarchal norms Feminism promoted shared responsibilities; yet, as women embrace masculine essences in careers or single parenting, some declare they need no partner, masking deeper yearnings.

Today, social media and apps inflate options, fostering superficiality and retreat This exacerbates a global loneliness epidemic, a public health crisis. In Japan, hikikomori affects 1.46 million; South Korea sees one in five chronically lonely; the USA reports over half of adults feeling isolated. Here in the UK, we have a Minister for Loneliness, currently Stephanie Peacock, addressing isolation through policies The WHO equates its risks to smoking, while experts like Esther Perel note eroded boundaries fuelling disconnection.

In 2025, popular dating trends lean towards little gestures of care, such as sharing memes, playlists, or inside jokes There is a push for building relationships through real-life meetups rather than just online chats, openness to non-exclusive relationships where people might have more than one partner, dates focused on shared activities like cooking classes or adventures to create memories, and prioritising the ability to understand and handle emotions well. Younger folks from Generation Z are ditching the exhaustion of constantly swiping on apps and opting for more deliberate, meaningful ways to connect with others

To navigate this, my Circology™ framework guides clients towards strong foundations, viewing dating as interviewing for compatible roles. It balances masculine and feminine essences, drawing from Jung and Deida, and power dynamics for harmony, avoiding toxicity through open dialogue and selfawareness. Tired of lacklustre dates? My coaching and The Circus Question™ app help you master meaningful connections and attract partners who match your effort. New research commissioned by Kalms Herbal Remedies reveals the dramatic toll menopause is taking on women’s sleep.

90% report disrupted sleep experience full insomnia – one in five daily!

68% say poor sleep increases stress and anxiety, trapping them in a cycle

36% report relationship strain as a result

Sleep is vital for your physical and mental health, acting as a restorative process that repairs the body, consolidates memories, and regulates emotions, mood, and cognitive functions like concentration and problem-solving. Chronic sleep deprivation increases your risk for serious health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and mental health conditions, and impairs your ability to function effectively and safely.

.

Hormonal changes during menopause are closely linked to disrupted sleep patterns: As levels of oestrogen and progesterone decline, they can interfere with the body’s internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm, and disrupt the production of key neurotransmitters like serotonin and melatonin, both of which help regulate sleep. This can make it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. While hot flushes and night sweats are well-known culprits, many women also experience insomnia, low mood and fatigue even without these symptoms, creating a perfect storm for restless nights.

Sustainable goals setback

Cyprus has ranked bottom among EU member states in the latest Sustainable Development Report (SDR), released by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

The island placed 56th globally out of 167 countries, with a score of 73 8, up slightly from 72.9 in 2024

The 2025 report, published this summer, introduced a simplified SDG Index based on 17 headline indicators

Earlier this year, the European Sustainable Development Report (ESDR) also ranked Cyprus near the bottom, 32nd out of 34 countries with a score of 62.7

leaves Cyprus last in EU

Among the most pressing challenges are excessive nitrogen use in agriculture, low women’s representation in parliament, high water consumption through imports, and a limited share of renewable energy in the energy mix

Other problem areas include workplace fatalities embodied in imports, low R&D investment, high inequality, weak e-waste recycling, significant CO2 emissions, overfishing, limited protected areas on land and sea, and issues linked to arms exports and press freedom.

UGLY IS A MODERN INVENTION. Today was a disaster. It started off as a fabulous family boat trip on our favourite, The Black Pearl, but quickly disintegrated into chaos. A refreshing swim stop in the gorgeous Blue Lagoon turned into a beauty meltdown. My freshly installed hair extensions fused into one giant knot. Three hours in the salon later, half of them had to be cut out. A gel tip nail fell off midway through the day. And to top it off? My strip lashes peeled off and floated away in the sea like a tragic mermaid moment.

I drove home full of self loathing. My daughter noticed I was quiet and asked what was wrong. I told her just didn’t feel good about myself, I felt ugly. Her reply was instant and cutting in the kindest way: "Mum, if you think you’re ugly, what does that make us, your children, who all look like you?”

I felt sick with guilt as the last thing I want to do is drop my plastic insecurities onto them. And then she added something that really stuck: “Before the 20th century, people didn’t even know what they looked like. Mirrors were rare. Portraits were for the rich. People weren’t obsessed with being attractive, they didn’t even know what that meant.” And it got me thinking. As usual, she’s not wrong. It’s only in the last 80 years or so that we’ve become fixated on image. We call it self-care, but so much of it is just wellpackaged insecurity. We’ve been sold the idea that beauty is empowerment but it’s just well marketed bullshit which I have built a c

a career around. We’re drowning in the pressure to be seen, polished and perfect. When I left my husband, the man who never really cared how I looked, I reinvented myself. I threw myself into beauty. Expensive skincare, hair extensions, designer makeup, nails, lashes, botox, aesthetics. You name it, I got it as I wanted to feel worthy again. I wanted to be visible, to look and feel beautiful. Today reminded me that this version of vanity is man-made and very modern. We didn’t always live this way. And some days, I feel like I’m still acting in a role I never auditioned for.

But maybe, just maybe he was right to care less. Maybe I’ve been performing ever since. Exchanging one kind of neglect for another, a shinier one, sold to me by expensive brands that don’t know my name but know exactly how to make me feel not good enough.

So here’s to the mess: the lashes that don’t stick, the hair that tangles, the face without foundation. I know beauty isn’t in the mirror. Without sounding like a cliche, it’s reflected in your soul. Your strength, your kindness, your honesty and your attitude is what undoubtably makes you beautiful but some days, it’s hard to believe that’s enough. And sadly here’s the truth I’m not proud of: I know it’s fake but I’m not ready to let go.
