Editor’s Note Hello July! Summer is in full swing and temperatures continue to soar and it’s easy to be tempted to stay indoors and wait for cooler days. Instead I was reminded of the importance of getting out there and embracing adventure when I spoke to the inspiring guys behind Maverick Adventures. The brothers recently completed a walk from Larnaca to Ayia Napa, proving that some of the best experiences can be found right on our doorstep. Even more exciting, they have a number of new walks and adventures planned in the coming months, encouraging people of all ages and fitness levels to discover Cyprus in a completely different way. Their story resonated with me because it reflects something I firmly believe: life is meant to be lived. Whether that's taking on a physical challenge, exploring a new corner of the island, starting a new business, travelling solo, or simply saying yes to opportunities that take us outside our comfort zone. IThat’s what loving your lifestyle is all about. This magazine is full of inspiring local stories, business features, travel ideas, health and wellbeing advice, and plenty of reasons to make the most of the wonderful lifestyle we enjoy here in Cyprus. As always, thank you to our readers, contributors and advertisers for your continued support. I hope this issue inspires you to get out, try something new and make the most of every day.

BROTHERS ALEKSANDER AND NENAD POPOVIc WALK FROM LARNACA TO AYIA NAPA Most visitors landing at Larnaca Airport jump straight into a taxi, hire car or shuttle bus to begin their holiday but not Alex and Nenad Popovic. The brothers behind Maverick Adventures decided to do something a little different. Armed with backpacks, determination and a passion for exploring destinations on foot, they set off from Larnaca Airport and walked all the way to Ayia Napa, a journey that took 13 hours. What started as an endurance challenge quickly became something much bigger. As they made their way along the coastline, through villages and lesser-known corners of eastern Cyprus, the pair discovered a side of the island that many tourists never get to experience. It also reinforced their belief that Cyprus could become a major destination for the type of adventure and wellness retreats they have successfully developed elsewhere in Europe. he brothers are the founders of Maverick Adventures, a fastgrowing company that specialises in transformational walking experiences.
Their founder-led retreats have attracted participants from across Europe, combining longdistance walking, fitness, personal development and meaningful human connection. Unlike traditional package holidays, Maverick Adventures encourages people to slow down, switch off and experience a destination at walking pace. Their flagship experiences take place on Spain's Costa del Sol, where guests embark on multiday walking adventures between Málaga and Marbella. The retreats have built a loyal following among entrepreneurs, professionals and individuals looking to escape the pressures of modern life and reconnect with themselves through movement, nature and conversation. hey have also expanded into Croatia, hosting fitness and adventure retreats on the stunning island of Rab, where hiking, paddleboarding, sea swimming and outdoor training create an immersive wellness experience. Now their attention is turning to Cyprus.

They have also expanded into Croatia, hosting fitness and adventure retreats on the stunning island of Rab, where hiking, paddleboarding, sea swimming and outdoor training create an immersive wellness experience. Now their attention is turning to Cyprus. Following their 13-hour trek from Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa, the brothers began exploring whether the island could support a similar retreat concept. They were so inspired by what they found that they even contemplated an ambitious walk from Ayia Napa all the way to Paphos. Ultimately, they decided against attempting the cross-island challenge due to the logistics involved, but the idea highlighted just how much potential they see in Cyprus as an adventure destination.
"Walking allows you to experience a place in a completely different way. "You notice the details, meet local people and connect with the landscape in a way that's impossible when you're travelling at speed."
"Our retreats aren't just about walking," he explains. "They're about creating space for people to think, reset and challenge themselves. Some of the most important conversations happen when you're simply walking side by side with someone." What sets Maverick Adventures apart is that the founders personally lead every experience. Guests aren't handed over to guides or tour operators; they spend the entire journey alongside the brothers who created the concept. As wellness tourism continues to grow worldwide, the pair believe there is a strong appetite for experiences that focus on authenticity, movement and personal growth rather than luxury alone. And after spending 13 hours walking from Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa, they are convinced Cyprus has all the ingredients needed to become one of Europe's most exciting walking destinations. Whether their next challenge involves another epic Cyprus trek remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – wherever Alex and Nenad go next, they'll probably be getting there on foot.
WHO ARE MAVERICK adventures?

He also has a background in philosophy and psychology and incorporates mindset coaching into the retreats. The menu is a celebration of authentic Syrian and Lebanese cooking, with fragrant grilled meats, succulent kebabs, creamy hummus with freshly baked flatbreads and colourful mezze designed for sharing. Every dish is prepared with traditional recipes, quality ingredients and the unmistakable warmth of Middle Eastern hospitality. But the magic doesn't stop at the food. As the evening unfolds, the atmosphere comes alive with the graceful performance of resident belly dancer Alexia, whose elegant routines bring an authentic touch of Middle Eastern culture to the restaurant. With every movement perfectly timed to the music, she effortlessly captivates diners, adding theatre, energy and excitement to an already vibrant setting. Far removed from the stereotypes often associated with belly dancing, Maraiya's performances are a celebration of artistry, femininity and cultural heritage. Her confidence, precision and stage presence create an immersive experience that draws appreciative applause from diners of all ages and nationalities.
“
She is a hard working artist who took up seriously this form of art from an early age to improve her skills and artistry but also to deliver refined performances and represent her country abroad in festivals and competitions. I am impressed with her courage to pick up difficult songs and challenged through learning and choreographing. Her shows remain unmissable and entertaining!
“
The combination of incredible food, warm hospitality and live entertainment creates exactly what dining out should be—an occasion. Guests don't simply come to eat; they come to relax, socialise and be entertained. In a town renowned for its nightlife, Zaatar offers something refreshingly different. It provides an authentic cultural experience where families, couples and groups of friends can enjoy a slower pace, savour traditional cuisine and soak up an atmosphere that's both welcoming and unforgettable. It's easy to see why so many visitors return time and again. One evening at Zaatar isn't just a meal —it's a journey through the flavours, music and traditions of Syria and Lebanon, brought to life by exceptional cuisine and the mesmerising performances of Alexia. She said, "People often misunderstand belly dancing, but it's a true art form rooted in centuries of culture and tradition. Every movement tells a story, every performance is about expressing emotion, confidence and grace. For me, it's never about simply entertaining an audience, it's about sharing a beautiful part of Middle Eastern heritage and inviting people to experience it with an open mind.”
