Briefly explain your role
I manage our marketing activities, covering digital marketing such as website management, social media, Google and email campaigns. Additionally, I handle print materials, including leaflets, newsletters, brochures, publication ads and other promotional items. I also oversee our presence at exhibitions.
What led you into Metrology?
After working within advertising and marketing agencies for over 20 years, my fascination with science and technology led me towards seeking a new industry sector. Joining Manchester Metrology felt like a perfect fit.
What’s your favourite metrology fact?
Metrology is the oldest science, dating back over 3,000 years, when people needed to accurately record weights and measures for trading.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy keeping fit and hitting the gym for early morning workouts. When it’s not raining I enjoy firing up the BBQ or making homemade pizzas in my outdoor oven.
Briefly explain your role
As a road metrology engineer, I visit customer sites to conduct measurements for their jobs.
What led you into Metrology?
My background as a CNC Miller sparked my interest, as I wanted to be able to check my own jobs.
What’s the best thing about being part of the team?
Everyone is really supportive.
What’s one thing you’re excited to learn or do in your new role?
I’m excited to gain more experience with the Laser Tracker.
What’s your favourite metrology fact?
It’s fascinating that most of the jobs we measure have tolerances smaller than a single human hair (18 microns).
Share an interesting fact about yourself.
In the past, I used to play the piano.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my spare time, I enjoy golfing with friends.

Briefly describe your role and responsibilities My responsibilities include PMT compensation and calibration, repairing Faro & PMT Arms, checking units back in and creating and maintaining spreadsheets to enhance usability and efficiency.
What does a typical day look like?
I’m in a unique position where each day brings something different. Some days revolve around repairs, others around checking units in and some involve fixing or creating spreadsheets. Some days are a mix of everything.
What led you into Metrology?
I’ve been in Electronics for 30 years and found myself drawn to the Metrology industry, particularly specialising in Calibration and Repair services.
What’s the best thing about being part of the team?
Firstly, we’re a team that gets along and isn’t afraid to roll up our sleeves and help out when needed.
Share one of your proudest achievements at Manchester Metrology.
In my short time here, a few achievements stand out: my first compensation and calibration of an arm, my initial repair of a Faro Arm and successfully fixing an Edge.
How do you approach challenges encountered within your role?
I’m a very logical person. Unusual challenges don’t bother me. I draw extensively on past knowledge and experience to come up with a solution.
Share an interesting fact about yourself. Despite having a fear of heights, I always force myself to bravely look over the edge, even when at the top of St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
We’re a family of avid gamers. Currently enjoying Helldiver’s 2 and looking forward to the final Destiny 2 DLC which has been running for around 7 years. Additionally, I also enjoy taking long walks with our springer spaniel, who is 7.
Coffee or tea and how do you like it?
I drink both Tea & Coffee. For coffee, I take it white, with 2 sugars. For tea, I prefer it black, also with 2 sugars. I particularly enjoy Lapsang Souchong tea, which is very strong.
