Areivim’s goal is to assist families in which one parent has passed away and unmarried children under the age of thirty-five are left to struggle financially. The program was designed by Rabbonim and Askonim who recognised that the mass fundraising campaigns which have been commonly used in the past are no longer acceptable. Bereaved families have been subjected to utter humiliation as their plight has been publicised. The cost of these fundraising efforts which included appeals, parlour meetings, advertising, printing and mailing, was prohibitive and the results were often disappointing. Areivim offers a better alternative and a more respectable and efficient solution. Our aim is to raise $100,000 for each unmarried child and for every widow/widower left with three or more unmarried children in the bereaved family. The funds are placed into safe high-street bank deposit accounts and used for expenses. Areivim is not life insurance. Areivim has been established primarily as a charitable endeavour and its halachis status is like that of all tzedakah money collected from the public. In the event of the passing of a member r”l, all contributions can be made with maser money. In the event of ‫ ר"ל‬a large number of deaths among members (as a result of a war, an earthquake etc.), Areivim reserves the right to consult with its Rabbinical committee on proper procedures. Members have no rights to sue or submit legal claims against the decisions of Areivim or its Rabbinical

Goals and Principles

14. Membership begins immediately after approval is granted. Members agree to contribute to all collections after their acceptance, unless they opt out of the program. Upon acceptance into Areivim, you will be sent confirmation with a personal membership number. 15. Membership may be acquired as a gift providing this is specified in advance. For example, parents may enrol their married children in the program and contribute in their stead. Friends may also enrol each other. This should be noted on the Application Form. 16. Membership in Areivim is non-transferable and may not be passed on through inheritance. 17. Members will always be notified prior to any collection by Areivim via contact information provided to Areivim in writing. 18. It is the responsibility of members to keep us updated with any changes to their contact details or bank information. 19. Members will be required to make up unpaid direct debits within a certain time frame. Membership rights may be withdrawn at any time if payment schedules are not adhered to. 20. Areivim will determine the exact amount of funds raised and distributed per orphan based on an evaluation of the needs of the orphaned child through a set of criteria consistently applied. 21. The full fund of $100,000 per orphan is based on the membership of approximately 14,500 families which constitutes the group. In the event that a member’s death occurs before the group is complete, the fund total will be adjusted downward accordingly.

Residents of Israel are excluded from membership in Areivim. Acceptance in Areivim is based on the family’s commitment to Torah and Mitzvos. Families wishing to be considered for enrolment must complete an application form and provide their bank details. There is no sign-up fee to join Areivim and there are no monthly charges, only one-off collections if and when a member’s death has occurred ‫ר"ל‬. Each family is considered one unit. In the event of the passing of either husband or wife, Areivim will initiate its evaluation process on behalf of the family. Widows, divorcees and single parents are also eligible to join. In order that Areivim contributors are not overburdened the Rabbinical board of Areivim has determined that collections will not be undertaken on behalf of survivors of members who were in ill health when they applied for membership. An applicant with a pre-existing significant medical issue may still contribute to Areivim by completing an application form and inserting a desired donation amount per orphan. Areivim also reserves the right to request medical records of a member in the case of his/her untimely passing, to determine whether a fund should be established.

Enrolment

committee, including for failure to initiate a collection. There are no oral agreements or other commitments between Areivim and its members, and no such oral agreements or commitments shall be given any legal effect. Any application found to have false information, or that does not meet the terms and conditions of Areivim, will retroactively disqualify the applicant from Areivim. Past contributions will not be returned. 24. In the event of the death of any member of this Areivim group ‫ר"ל‬, each family will be asked to contribute a one-time contribution of $7 for every eligible orphan and widow/widower in the bereaved family. 25. Areivim members will never be asked to contributed more than $28 in any given month. This will provide for the needs of four family members. In the event that there are more orphans in the bereaved family, the remaining funds will be collected the following month. 26. The goal is to establish funds of up to $100,000 per orphan. If more people than the number required to reach that goal join, the amount of assistance collected from each member decreases. 27. The bereaved family’s funds will be overseen and distributed by a committee comprising of the Rov of the family, an Areivim representative and a member of the bereaved family. 28. Those who financially wouldn’t need the support of Areivim, or who otherwise would not qualify for Areivim membership but wish to contribute to Areivim as a means of helping to alleviate the plight of orphans in our community, may contribute by filling out the Application Form and selecting Option 2 and inserting the desired donation sum per orphan. Such a donor may choose to pledge any amount per orphan.

Contributions

22. In all cases of dispute, Areivim will call upon its rabbinical committee to serve as arbitrators. Their decision will be accepted as final. 23. By signing and submitting an application form you commit yourself to all the terms and conditions of membership in Areivim.

Message from Ivan Lewis MP I am proud to have been a strong voice for you locally and nationally over the past twenty years. It is a privilege to represent the constituency where I was born, raised and have lived all my life in Parliament. The forthcoming election will be about the NHS, School funding, Brexit, the economy and leadership. But it will also be about concerns in the community regarding antisemitism. To be clear, it is a small minority of Labour members whose attacks on Israel cross the line into anti-Semitic rhetoric and imagery. It is important to recognise that a number of Labour MP's who are proud of their Jewish identity including myself are supported by thousands of Labour members of all faiths and none. The Jewish Labour Movement is resurgent with many Jewish and non-Jewish supporters determined to ensure the party remains a positive 'home' for the Jewish community. It is Labour MP John Mann who has led the robust Parliamentary all party campaign to challenge antisemitism in wider British society. However, Labour’s historic commitment to equality and anti-racism means even a small minority of members espousing or seeking to justify anti-Semitic views is a cause for serious concern. There must be zero tolerance of anti-Semitism at every level of the party. I do not believe Jeremy Corbyn is anti-Semitic, although his long standing antipathy towards Israel is indisputable. However, his response to Jewish community concern has been too slow and the Chakrabarti report together with the party's failure to expel Ken Livingstone have made the situation worse. It is regrettable that in the past he described Hamas and Hezbollah as "friends" when they refuse to renounce their terrorism and anti-Semitism. Whenever anti-Semitism has reared its ugly head I have stood up and been counted. Prior to Jeremy Corbyn being elected leader I was the ďŹ rst Labour politician to publically criticise his past support for people who had engaged in anti-Semitic rhetoric. Following his election I requested a one to one meeting with him to discuss my concerns regarding anti-Semitism. I met with Shami Chakrabarti and Jeremy Corbyn separately to explain the anger and concern in the Jewish community about anti-Semitism. I have criticised the Chakrabarti report and recently slammed the party for their failure not to expel Livingstone. I called on Labour MP colleagues to speak out against the Livingstone decision which they did in large numbers. I have also called out a small minority in the Jewish community who express outrage about anti-Semitism while being racist about people of other faiths. They do immense damage to the community's moral authority. I am very proud to have honoured my responsibilities to my constituents as someone who abhors all forms of racism and is proud of my Jewish identity. I will continue to speak out without fear or favour against anti-Semitism and all forms of racism in the future. I will be the strongest voice for you and all my constituents at a time of insecurity and anxiety in an increasingly uncertain world. Thank you for taking the trouble to read this message. Ivan Lewis MP
