Please make sure your bins are left outside your property by 6am Only bins with a green sticker will be collected.

Two decades ago, The Fed ended the undignified practice of having people queue up for hand-outs.

But with the cost-of-living crisis, the ghosts of those times have come to haunt us. While people no longer have to line up, requests for crisis funding are rising at a shocking rate.

In the first two weeks of 2023, we had to hand out as many emergency financial grants as we would normally expect in a whole year. People came to us lacking the most basic essentials:

One had no heating, lighting, or food.

One was unable to afford nappies for their small children.

One was travelling on the bus for hours to keep warm.

One person had not eaten in four days.

With Pesach around the corner, how will they cope? The answer lies with you.

A new Yom Tov dress instead of something from the Gemach? No.

A new pair of shoes because they use the same pair for school and Shabbos and there are holes by the toes? No.

A new toy for Pesach? No.

They just want food.

You know, some fruit for snack like all the other kids have. An apple, tangerine, kiwi … perhaps a filling and nutritious supper as well.

But, how can I explain to them that pretzels and crackers stretch me through the week further than fruit?

I don’t have money for nappies, I don’t have money for milk. We didn’t have eggs in the house for two weeks and debating on whether to buy a bag of sugar or a cucumber is driving me to despair!

There’s not enough food and so my children wake up hungry in the night. Cereal and milk are not enough.

I wish I could think about Pesach but right now it is about getting through each day of the week. Please help me, my family is hungry! Mrs .......
