A REVOLUTION IN GIRLS’ FURTHER EDUCATION IN EUROPE
Two years ago Tiferes High School (NW London) set up the Maalos pre Sem program which was initiated by the school’s Nossi; Rabbi Gershon Hager shlita and planned down to the last detail by the previous Menahel Rabbi Yoel Rabinowitz shlita.
From it’s inception it has been led by Mrs Essie Lazarus to huge acclaim. Together with a handpicked sta of Rabbonim and teachers she has created a new dimension in girls’ chinuch by involving herself individually with every single pupil to bring out the best in each girl to levels they themselves didn’t realise they were capable of.
The governors of Maalos have now taken the decision to build on this venture by establishing for the first time in the history of the UK, a one year residential sem in the style of the sems in Eretz Yisroel, which will be opening in the coming Elul (Sept ’23) and will be based near London, to cater for girls aged 17 & 18 who have completed their secular education, usually to Uk A level standard, or equivalent abroad, and are looking for a full Kodesh Sem experience.
This ground-breaking endeavour is
being welcomed by Rabbonim and Mechanchim/chos in schools across Europe as a well overdue development highly sought after by parents and pupils alike. Having the benefit of smaller classes with the associated individual personal attention to a girl’s needs and growth, not to mention the hugely reduced costs (£10k for the year) as against the current Sems in Eretz Yisroel which are beyond the reach of the average household, will create the right environment for the girls to flourish.
The central theme and raison d’etre of this Sem is to be a warm place with a focus on Regesh and the Nefesh of the pupils to enable them to absorb a true love of Yiddishkeit and learning, a place where girls will be given the tools to thrive and grow from within, understanding their role and responsibility as Bnos Yisroel. They will be given the necessary Yedios and Hashkofos to build their future lives as Nishei Chayil, proud to take their place as an important link in the chain of our Mesorah
The full Kodesh program will cover the full spectrum of subjects including; Torah, Neveim, Kesuvim, Halocho, Hashkofo, Emuna and

Bitochon, Mussar, Tefillo, Avoidas HaMiddos and Chochmas Noshim.
Although the sem will not o er secular qualifications such as A levels or degrees etc, courses like computer programming, teacher training and practical vocational courses to enable girls to learn the skills needed in their future lives and in a Jewish Home will be o ered.
The sem will encompass uplifting Shabbosos, while at the same time including the opportunity for girls to be home every 4th Shabbos or to spend it with family and friends so that she can continue to benefit from the advantages of a family environment.
The aim is to infuse and inspire the students with Torah concepts in a positive and supportive way. To instil a love of Yiddishkeit and learning, and to recognise and develop each student’s potential to the maximum
Girls will be using their days productively and fully with pupils from across the world, building Pnimius and a Simchas HaChaim together with long lasting friendships.
An extracurricular program is being incorporated to include time in Eretz Yisroel and Europe, as well as UK based activities and programs
David Hersh who is helping to
launch this Moisad, was one of the 3 founders who set up and ran Beis Soroh Schneirer girls primary school in NW London in it’s initial year some 27 years ago, then moving on to set up Tiferes girls high school the following year, which he has been running ever since, being the high school favoured by the town’s klei kodesh who comprise 50% of the school’s intake, and most recently the creation of the Maalos pre sem program with the help of Rabbi Bazak and Motti Vorhand.
This new sem will complete girls’ education journey one further level to prepare them for a fulfilling purposeful married life raising the next generation of Bnos Yisroel in a meaningful and simchadik way. The appointment of the sem head and the names of the senior mechanchos will be announced shortly
