An open letter to the people of Kersal and Broughton Park

Thank You Thanks to your support, I am humbled and honoured to have been elected as your councillor on Salford City Council. My manifesto pledges were to "work hard for you the whole year, not just at election time", and to "be your voice in the council", and I fully intend to keep my word. I have already been busy with your issues, from potholes to planning permission, and from dustbins to benefits. I've arranged ESL (English for Speakers of other Languages) classes (separate mens' and womens' classes) starting in October; more details to follow. I've also been involved in high-level discussion with officers and politicians, and have shared my proposal for an overhaul of the current recycling and rubbish collection situation, which has been received positively by all concerned, and is now being tweaked to meet my objectives of being Economical, Ecological and Egalitarian - it must fit in with the available budget, must meet environmental objectives, and must be fair for all, including those with large households, many of whom feel the current policy discriminates against them. Over the next few weeks, I'll be setting up a surgery for you to share any issues, big or small. This will be in Broughton Hub, as soon as government restrictions allow. I'll also be sending out a survey to gain your views on pertinent issues - I am already aware of the problems with rubbish collection, so I'll be doing some information gathering to help me push the agenda. hazal teach us that the day of a tzadik’s yahrtzeit is a most auspicious day, a ‫יום סגולה ועת רצון‬, to connect with the tzadik, granting us the potential to elicit brochos and yeshuos min hashomayim in the zechus of the tzadik. Sunday, Gimmel Tammuz 5781 (June 13, 2021), marks the 27th yahrtzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe ‫זי"ע‬.

The following are some suggested ways to commemorate this auspicious day and the days in close proximity to it: ‫ | לימוד התורה‬Learn a teaching of the Rebbe, the baal hahilula, which may be found in over 250 volumes of his chidushei Torah. ‫ | אהבת ישראל‬Reach out to a fellow Jew in chesed. Share the warmth and beauty of Yiddishkeit with another Yid. ‫ | אהל הקדוש‬Be mispalel at the Rebbe’s tziyon. A kvittel may also be sent to the Ohel (see details below). May all of our tefilos be answered, especially during these challenging times, and may we merit the geulah shleimah speedily in our days.
