GETTING TO MANCHESTER

The easiest way to travel to and around Greater Manchester is by public transport with excellent train, national bus and tram links from across the UK. www.nationalrail.co.uk has full details about train times and fares to Greater Manchester and the train stations around the area. Manchester Airport has regular train and tram links to Piccadilly Station that take about 20 minutes and run approximately every 15 minutes at peak times.

There are a lot of car parks across the city if you are travelling by car.

GETTING ABOUT

It’s easy to walk around Manchester city centre and the other nine boroughs. In Manchester City Centre, pick up a map from the Visitor Information Centre, Piccadilly Gardens, M1 1RG and you can get to most places in under 30 minutes.

Buses and the Free city centre Metroshuttle

Buses are an excellent way to see the city and the wider region of Greater Manchester. The Metroshuttle is a network of free buses that link Manchester city centre’s main train stations, car parks and shopping areas across the city centre. There are three circular routes running approximately every 10 minutes

The Metrolink connects all the major railway stations and has routes running from Altrincham, Ashton, Bury, East Didsbury, Rochdale, Manchester Airport, Media City and Eccles into the city centre www.metrolink.co.uk

Cycling

MHF 2016 is run by Manchester Histories (MH), an independent charity aiming to transform lives through engagement in histories and heritage. Events are delivered by MH and also a broad range of organisations from community groups and museums to archives and Blue Badge Guides.

We encourage organisers to keep as many events as possible free, or at a reasonable price during the festival. Due to the nature of the festival, there are many different ways to book tickets and we advise you to book in advance where possible.
