from the president A Call to Celebrate! Join Us November 16 to Honor Small Businesses and Non-Profits for Their Impact and Resiliency We asked. You responded. When the Chamber asked our community to take the time to nominate local small businesses and organizations for our 41st Annual Awards, you nominated more than 230 unique companies and organizations that serve the greater Manatee County region! It was a phenomenal outpouring of support and appreciation for all that our businesses have been through. It is also a recognition of the critical role that small, local businesses and non-profits have as the bedrock of our economy. On November 16, we will celebrate together and we hope that you will join us. Our resiliency is built upon much more than just what this pandemic has thrown at us. It is built upon the efforts and leadership of people who care about their community, employees, and customers. Congratulations to the finalists for the 2021 Small Business of the Year Awards! public policy On the Ballot: Manatee Chamber Supports the 1 Mill Referendum Manatee County Voters Will Decide on a Continuation of This Funding for Our Schools Voters in Manatee County will consider a very important ballot initiative on November 2 -- continuation of the 1 Mill for the School District of Manatee County, including charter schools. After careful consideration, review, and discussion, our Board of Directors has voted to endorse this ballot item to continue the significant progress that has been made. The success of students is directly related to the future success of local businesses and our economy. Every dollar generated by the millage stays right here in Manatee County, benefiting our students and teachers. The 1 Mill is improving student learning by: • extending the school day 30 minutes, which equates to an entire additional year of instruction for students in our system for their full K through 12 years • keeping teachers and staff from leaving our District through competitive pay • expanding career, technical, and STEM programs • assisting charter schools • enhancing visual and performing arts programs, if millage is renewed The strength of our education system is a critical component upon which our community succeeds or falters. A high quality, effective, and adequately funded education system is foundational to individual success, business growth, and community vibrancy. The Chamber believes that our community's investment through the 1 Mill has been effective and should be continued. Voters in many other Florida counties, including Sarasota and Pinellas, have passed similar measures to enhance and strengthen their public and charter schools. For information on how the initial 1 Mill has been used, visit manateeschools.net/referendum.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS The Chamber is now accepting nominations for the 5th Annual Robert P. Bartz Award for Outstanding Leadership. Bob Bartz was a very special person whose legacy still positively impacts our community. We want to use his example to inspire new leaders and recognize long-standing leaders who are serving our community. Elliott Falcione, Executive Director Bradenton Area Convention & Visitors Center

Ever dream of competing on the international stage or representing your country at the Olympics? It’s not a far stretch for those training at Bradenton’s IMG Academy. In fact, IMG had 11 of its alumni competing in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Join us in October as IMG’s Senior Vice President Chris Ciaccio shares with us a behind the scenes look at the business of what it takes in preparing these athletes to become tomorrow’s leaders and influencers, both on and off the field.
