Teen Advisory Committee

We are looking for outgoing involved teens to help shape and plan our teen programs and events. The Teen Advisory Board is a group of teens that want to have their voices heard! We will meet in a multi-purpose room to practice social distancing. Teen Center Events

March Madness

Join us in the Teen Center and enjoy a watch party for March Madness! On April 1st, we’ll watch the Final Four - Semifinals of the NCAA. Stop by on April 3rd to watch the Championship Games! There will be light food and beverages. Registration is required - $5.00.

◊Naginata◊

(Ages 14+) Naginata is an ancient Japanese weapon used by Samurai men and women. This class is taught by Sensei Djinn and will teach you the martial art form of Atarashii Naginata. All experience levels welcome. Loaner equipment is available. A onetime registration fee of $60 is required. Sessions are held monthly. The Sunday class will meet every other week. $30/Month

Teen Easter Egg Hunt

The Teen Center will host an Easter Egg Hunt for teens ages 1217! Join us at Costello Park- Easter baskets and flashlights will be provided.

Registration is required - $5.00.

◊WCRB Teen Mixed Martial Arts◊

(Ages 13-19) WCRB’s Teen MMA Class is for students with or without prior training. With emphasis on courtesy, discipline and respect, students will learn a mixture of several different art forms.

The TMMA program is combined with our academic excellence program for maximization of your child’s learning experience. This is a belt class from white to black with testing two to four times a year. All equipment and uniforms must be purchased through WCRB Karate. $50/per month for one class a week; $80/per month for two classes a week. Classes end in June.

LGBTQ+ Teen Group

LGBTQ+ Youth Fridays are back! Join us every second and fourth Friday nights of the month from 6:00pm-7:00pm. We will have games, giveaways, and entertaining conversations with fellow LGBTQ+ youth and queer facilitators and allies. This is a social group open to ages 12-17. Email the Teen Center Specialist, Heather Henry at H.Henry@manassasparkva.gov for more information.

We will meet 3/10, 3/24, 4/14, 4/28, 5/12, and 5/26.

Come out and learn how to create stained glass art with our passionate Recreation Leader! All materials will be provided. We’ll provide snacks and beverages for each participant.

Registration is required - $5.00

◊Skills and Drills: Pickleball Class◊

(Ages 18+) This class is all about practice and is designed for 2.5 to 3.5 players. Players will be able to suggest skills they wish to improve, and each class will practice a drill specific skill. Possible topics could be: Serve strength, variety, and strategy; dinking; drop shot development; shot placement; the correct way to play a lob, and more. Bring a water bottle, towel, and court shoes

◊Intro to Pickleball◊

(Ages 18+) Have you heard about one of the fastest growing sports in the US? It’s called pickleball! If you are unfamiliar with it, see what all the excitement is about. This introductory class will teach you the basics by some of our most dedicated and encouraging pickleball players. Bring a water bottle, towel, and comfortable shoes.

$25/M; $30/R; $35/NR

◊Advanced Pickleball◊

(Ages 18+) Have you completed the Introduction to Pickleball Class or another beginner class for the sport? Are you ready to learn more about strategy or improve your skills? This class is designed to introduce you to additional skills, strengthen your serve, improve ground strokes, learn to anticipate your opponents’ next play, and place the ball where you want it. Bring a water bottle, towel, and court shoes.

$25/M; $30/R; $35/NR

◊WCRB Adult MMA Class◊

(Ages 18+) With emphasis on spatial awareness, self-discipline, and self-defense, students will learn a mixture of several different martial art forms. Students will feel empowered and excited to a new challenge. This is a white-to-black belt course with testing two to four times a year.

$50/month for one class per week; $80/month for two classes per week; $100/month for three or more classes per week. Classes end in June.

Hand Dancing

(Age 18 +) Are you ready for the best seven steps you’ll ever take? The 7 Step Hand Dance Academy specializes in the African American art form of hand dancing- combining sophisticated, slick moves with rhythmic footwork that allows dancers to blend their talent into showcase artistry. Spring Classic Co-ed Dodgeball Tournament

(Ages 18+) Duck! Throw! Dodge! Dodgeball is back at MPCC! Gather your buddies and come out for an action-packed and fun-filled day of old school dodgeball. You’ll need a co-ed team of six members to compete. $100 per team

DROP-IN ACTIVITIES

Every Saturday afternoon, come to the Community Center to hoop it up with friends. Pick-up games are played to 13 and are participantofficiated.
