The Community Center features two full basketball courts, an indoor pool, fitness rooms, and rental spaces including a 3,480 sq. ft. banquet hall.

The City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to the provision of quality leisure services for the residents of Manassas Park. Over the years, through the many changes the City has endured, the Department of Parks and Recreation has responded to the growing needs of the community by continuing to support the Governing Body’s vision to be the “Premier Northern Virginia Community to live, work, and raise a family”.

POLICIES Registration Registration is on a “first come, first serve basis.” You will only be notified if the class/program is cancelled. Late registrations may be accepted if space is available with no reduction in fee. We encourage registering online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com.

Forms & Fees Each class/program must be accompanied by payment. You may register and pay for classes online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com or in person at the Community Center located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111. Checks are to be made payable to “City of Manassas Park.” There is a $50 returned check fee for any check returned by the bank. All credit card transactions are assessed a 3% + $0.30 fee.

Cancellations The Department of Parks and Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class/ program which does not meet the minimum enrollment. All programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 5 days prior to the program start date.

PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! Non-City Residents Most of the fee based classes/programs are available to non-city residents at an additional fee. Please see the individual class/program for additional information.

Inclement Weather In the event of inclement weather the Department of Parks and Recreation will follow the local government cancellation schedule. If classes/programs are cancelled, every attempt will be made to re-schedule the class/program.

Located at 147 Polk Street Features an outdoor basketball court, a playground, and generous amounts of open space

These small parks, ranging in size from a quarter acre to one acre, are located in the residential neighborhood of the western area of the City and primarily service the residents local to each site. Block Parks are open year round from 7:30 am until dusk.

All parks and facilities are open to the public and may be scheduled for specific use through the Parks and Recreation Department. The rental application is a request only, not a guarantee. A Rental Request Application is required for all facility reservations. Special Permits, in addition to the Field Use Application, may be required for after hours events, special events, or group use.

Payment must accompany a Rental Request Application. The Department does not accept tentative reservations. Cancellations must be made at least 10 days in advance in order to receive a refund for outdoor rentals. Applications are available at the Manassas Park Community Center. All rentals are subject to availability and must be booked and paid for 10 days in advance of event.

Costello Park

INFORMATION The Manassas Park Dog Park features a large and small dog run for your pets to exercise and interact in a safe environment with other dogs • Hours: 8:00am-dusk • Dogs must be current on all vaccinations.

• Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the dog park.

• For the safety of your dog(s) and other park visitors, choke, prong (pinch), and spike collars are strictly prohibited. If you use these types of collars, remove them before entering the park.

• No children under the age of 16 are permitted unless accompanied by an adult. Children have a tendency to scream and run when excited, which can trigger a dog’s prey drive or natural instinct to chase. For this reason and for the safety of your children, we do not recommend bringing small children and infants into the dog park.

• Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises. Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression.

• Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the park.

• Dogs over six months must be spayed or neutered.

• Dog owners must be in the park and within view of their dogs at all times.

• All off-leash dogs must be under voice control of their owners.

• Dog owners must keep their leash in hand at all times.

• Please do not bring dog food into the park.

• Owner must clean up dog feces. Seal waste in the provided bags before disposing in designated receptacles.

• Fill any holes your dog digs.

• Proof of a current rabies vaccination and license is required upon request of a police or animal control officer. Tags may serve as proof.

• Failure to abide by the park rules may result in loss of privileges or owners may be ticketed.

• Use of dog park is at owners’ and pets’ risk. *Park occassionally closed during normal hours for maintenance and special events.

HISTORICAL SITES

INFORMATION

The Conner House

A nationally registered historical site, this antebellum stone house, circa 1855, is located in the central region of the City, in view of City Hall. The Conner House is currently being restored and is not open to the general public.

Signal Hill Monument

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 13-acre monument site is located in the eastern end of the City, adjacent to Signal Hill Park. Signal Hill is open year round from 7:30am until dusk.

Camp Carondolet

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 8-acre Civil War encampment is located in the Blooms Crossing subdivision adjacent to Cougar Elementary School. A series of nature trails are available to the public year round from 7:30am until dusk.

The Georgia Cemetery

Included in the Camp Carondelet nomination is a Civil War cemetery located in the direct vicinity of Camp Carondelet in the Blooms Crossing subdivision.

The Union Mill Trestle

A key structure in the Civil War, this is located in the last few remaining acres of the once Union Mill Park near the VRE lot and General’s Ridge Golf Course. This site is not accessible to the general public.

Field Application: Athletic fields and park grounds are available for rental between March 15th – November 15th to registered leagues and group users. Cost for permits vary on the type of usage and the duration of the request. All spring field usage requests are accepted beginning February 1st of each calendar year for a March 15th – June 30th spring season. All fall field usage requests are accepted beginning July 1st of each calendar year for an August 15th – November 15th fall season.

Want lean and strong arms, but don’t want to bulk up? This 30-minute lowimpact class is designed to tone and slenderize your arms. Build lean, graceful arms with this dance-based workout!

Aqua Zumba®

If you enjoy ZUMBA®, you will be sure to enjoy Zumba in the water. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training/resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. You do not need to be a swimmer to take this class.

Aquasize

This class provides a low-impact, full body exercise while helping you tone your muscles.

Beginner Yoga

Beginner’s Yoga will cover the fundamentals of yoga poses and breathing techniques. This class will also focus on strength and flexibility as well as breath awareness and relaxation.

Body Sculpting

A lightweight dumbbell workout moved to the beat of the music. Burn calories as you flow through a variety of exercises to sculpt and tone your body! You’ll notice improvements in your muscle tone, posture, balance, and strength.

Boot Camp

Boot Camp is designed for those desiring to increase cardiovascular fitness and increase muscular strength more efficiently. Boot Camp is for the beginner to the advanced enthusiast. Workout in a team environment while challenging yourselves with others to reach your personal fitness goals.

Buddy Yoga

Buddy Yoga will focus on the foundations of yoga while providing plenty of modifications for physically or cognitively disabled adults.

Functional Fitness Flow

This class uses the resistance of water to challenge your muscles while allowing the buoyancy to ease the strain on the joints. The goal of this class is to increase your muscle strength, balance, flexibility, and range of motion.

Kickboxing

This exciting, fast paced, upbeat class is a fusion of boxing, martial arts, and aerobics, all performed rhythmically to music.

Lean Legs

Target hard-to-reach leg, butt, and thigh muscles for an overall lower-body toning with this Pilates-based mat workout.

Lower Body Booty Blast

This class targets the butt, thighs, hips, and calves for a total lower body workout that leaves you feeling energetic and strong.

Magic Abs

A fusion class that combines body weight exercises with deep stretching. This class shreds abdominal muscles for a leaner, stronger core.

Om Tone

This class combines deep breathing, low impact muscle toning, and smooth, elegant movement to strengthen and elongate your physique. Low light and a meditation cool down creates a stress-free atmosphere for a holistic workout that integrates the mind and body.

Restorative Aquafit

This low impact aqua class uses gentle movements that will help increase flexibility, range of motion, and strength.

Senior Strength and Stretch

Designed to help seniors improve their cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength. Medicine balls, dumbbells, exercise bands, and stability balls will be incorporated into this functional, exciting, and low impact class.

Senior Yoga

American Red Cross Lifeguard Course

(Ages 5-18) We have designed a swimming program for individuals with disabilities to be able to learn water safety, swim techniques, and to feel comfortable in the water. Each participant must have an aide (or parent) in the water during the lesson. Aides provided at no additional charge if arranged with the Aquatics Manager in advance.

Must be at least 15 years old by last class. Participants must complete the online portion of the course prior to the first day of the class in order to participate. Prerequisites include swimming 300m, treading water for 1 minute without using arms, and a timed event. Upon completion of the course, participants will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED for Lifeguards. Certification is valid for two years. MPCC Indoor Pool Information The Manassas Park Community Center natatorium is an NCAA short course certified indoor pool consisting of eight 25 yard lanes, a zero depth entry, and a spa. The pool temperature is maintained at a comfortable 82˚F. Kick boards, pull buoys, and life jackets for patrons are available for use while at the facility.

Certain areas of the pool may not be open for public swimming due to swim lessons, group exercise classes, or league rentals.

school age recreation programs 2018-2019 Extended Care Extended Care follows the licensing standards of the State of Virginia, Department of Social Services. Our Before and After School Care is for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade attending Manassas Park City Schools. We offer themed activities, which include arts and crafts, games, sports, and swimming in a fun, supervised environment! At no additional cost, teacher work days, school breaks, and some holidays are covered by full day care from 6:00am-7:00pm. Call for Punch Card/drop-in rates. Every first Thursday of the month, we create some of our favorite drinks and try new ones! Drinks include hot cocoa, milkshakes, sparkle punch, Arnold Palmer, and watermelon slushies, to name a few!

Come over to the Community Center after school and enjoy a few games of soccer! Our indoor and outdoor spaces make it easy to play with any weather. If enough of your friends are interested, a league could start!

Sports Conditioning Whether you are in-season or in-between seasons, you can always improve your conditioning. Join staff as they help push you to your max to make sure that you put your best foot forward when it’s time for tryouts or the game.

PS4 Tournament Do you think you’re the best at Fortnite, Madden, NBA 2K, FIFA, or any other video games? Come put your skills to the test against other teens, and staff, in weekly tournaments in the Teen Center. Prizes will be awarded to the winner.

Learn Something New World of Art

Badges for Baseball The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice, created Badges for Baseball. This program pairs law enforcement professionals as mentors with youth from community-based organizations.

Pickleball When you mix tennis with badminton, you get Pickleball. This is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, and we have it right here at the Community Center. Once you play, you’ll be hooked!

Drop-In Basketball Every Friday after school, the Community Center courts are the place to be! The gym is reserved just for you to hoop with your friends. Grab your buddies, a basketball, and meet us on the court!

Connect with Your Community Movie Monday Every Monday, the Teen Center turns into a mini movie theater. Grab a spot on the couch with some candy or popcorn and enjoy a great film.

We may watch anything from Disney classics, to motivational movies, to some of the newest releases. All films are rated G - PG-13.

Volunteer Club Do you love your community and want to give back? Maybe you need community service hours for school? Whatever the reason is, we invite you to join us on Tuesdays for new and exciting volunteer opportunities around the Community Center.

Homework Help

Art is all around us. There are many different forms and mediums of art, and in the Teen Center World of Art, we are going to discover them each week. Supplies will be provided.

Life Skills A well-rounded and balanced life involves much more than a good academic education. Although education is important, so is life and social skills. In this program, youth will learn about topics such as decision-making, critical thinking, etiquette, managing money, jobs to career goals, time management, choosing the right friends, and community service. Ages 11-12 meet 3:15pm - 4:15pm.

Ages 13-15 meet 4:30pm-5:30pm.

Career Launch Are you thinking about getting a summer job? If so, this is the perfect time for you to work with Teen Staff! They will help you create a resume, cover letters, and teach you some of the basics of interviewing to help you feel prepared for future employment.

Garden to Table We have a teen created and sustained garden at the Community Center! We will plant lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and more. Our group meets once a week to plant, water, harvest, and discuss plans for the garden. You will be able to take the vegetables home or use them in a recipe in our cooking class at the Community Center.

Latin Dance Fall in love with the beautiful dances of Salsa, Mambo, Bachata, and Merengue. Beginners will learn the basic steps in a fun, casual setting. Even if you already know how to dance, we encourage you to show up and enjoy the music with other dancers!

Teen Advisory Committee

MP3 (Manassas Park 3 o’clock Club) is a non-licensed program operated by the City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation. The program is lightly supervised for your teen to have a safe and fun place to be after school. The program emphasizes recreation with creative programs and materials that encourage and invite participation. Recreation Leaders guide students in activities that allow the participants to learn. Teens will choose and participate in group activities that are fun, safe, and challenging. MP3 is developed for teens in grades 6-8.

MP3 is hosted Monday-Friday during the school year from 2:45pm-7:00pm. Transportation is provided from Manassas Park Middle School to the Community Center. MP3 does not meet on holidays or teacher workdays. Must pre-register.

Our Senior Passport Program is for individuals 60 years of age and older. Membership is $20 per month for non-residents of Manassas Park and $10 per month for residents. Membership includes all the benefits of our Basic Membership, as well as access to all senior programs (except swim lessons) at no additional charge. Enjoy our potlucks, socials, the wellness area, pool, and more! Non-members may enroll in any of these classes individually by paying the $2.00 daily drop-in rate. *Times, dates, and activities are subject to change.

Functional Fitness Flow This class uses the resistance of water to challenge your muscles while allowing the buoyancy to ease the strain on the joints. The goal of this class is to increase your muscle strength, balance, flexibility, and range of motion.

Pickleball This sport is described as a combination of tennis and badminton. It is also a fun and great way to get exercise. This is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and has gained much popularity at the Community Center.

SIT Fit SIT Fit is a low impact aerobics and strength training class for anyone needing the stability of a chair. This class is performed seated or standing behind a chair for stability.

*Social Knitting/Crocheting Bring a project or start a new one with us for a relaxing morning of knitting, crocheting, and socializing. Share ideas and create items such as dishcloths, baby Afghans, and unity scarves.

Walking Club Calling all walkers! As we walk and talk, you will be hitting your stride and realizing the heart benefits of a 1,000 steps.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, and your favorite ball cap! In the event of rain, our activity will be indoors.

Plarning Plarn is plastic bag yarn! Come together with friends to crochet shower mats, hats, bags, and more. You do not need to know how to crochet. You can come and help cut and roll bags all while socializing with the group.

Take One Drama Troupe

(Ages 17+) This one of a kind, special program is a self-facilitated adult social group. This program is designed to meet the needs of individuals with developmental/cognitive disabilities. Daily activities include arts and crafts, fitness classes, movies, computer, and video games. Buddies will also have access to the wellness center and the pool. $2.00 Drop-in rate for non-members. $20/month

(Ages 17+) Take One Drama Troupe is a group of talented individuals with developmental/cognitive disabilities. We perform twice a year, with a play in the fall and a variety show in the spring. Practices are held at the Manassas Park Community Center. Catherine’s Caring Hands Scholarship

On Tuesday, July 7th, 2015 in honor of Department of Parks and Recreation Director, Catherine Morretta, Jamie and Patty Baisden of QMT Windchimes annouced the formation of the Catherine’s Caring Hands Scholarship.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. If awarded a scholarship, families will be responsible for 10% of the program cost.
