The City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to the provision of quality leisure services for the residents of Manassas Park. Over the years, through the many changes the City has endured, the Department of Parks and Recreation has responded to the growing needs of the community by continuing to support the Governing Body’s vision to be the “Premier Northern Virginia Community to live, work, and raise a family”.

POLICIES Registration Registration is on a “first come, first serve basis.” You will only be notified if the class/program is cancelled. Late registrations may be accepted if space is available with no reduction in fee. We encourage registering online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com.

Forms & Fees Each class/program must be accompanied by payment. You may register and pay for classes online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com or in person at the Community Center located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111. Checks are to be made payable to “City of Manassas Park.” There is a $50 returned check fee for any check returned by the bank. All credit card transactions are assessed a 3% fee.

Cancellations The Department of Parks and Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class/ program which does not meet the minimum enrollment. All programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 5 days prior to the program start date.

PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! Non-City Residents Most of the fee based classes/programs are available to non-city residents at an additional fee. Please see the individual class/program for additional information.

Inclement Weather In the event of inclement weather the Department of Parks and Recreation will follow the local government cancellation schedule. If classes/programs are cancelled, every attempt will be made to re-schedule the class/program.

Does your event require multiple rooms? Our building is perfect for events that need break out rooms or dressing rooms. These small parks, ranging in size from a quarter acre to one acre, are located in the residential neighborhood of the western area of the City and primarily service the residents local to each site. Block Parks are open year round from 7:30 am until dusk.

Costello Park

INFORMATION The Manassas Park Dog Park features a large and small dog run for your pets to exercise and interact in a safe environment with other dogs • Hours: 8:00am-Dusk • Dogs must be current on all vaccinations.

• Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the dog park.

• For the safety of your dog(s) and other park visitors, choke, prong (pinch), and spike collars are strictly prohibited. If you use these types of collars, remove them before entering the park.

• No children under the age of 16 are permitted unless accompanied by an adult. Children have a tendency to scream and run when excited, which can trigger a dog’s prey drive or natural instinct to chase. For this reason and for the safety of your children, we do not recommend bringing small children and infants into the dog park.

• Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises. Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression.

• Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the park.

• Dogs over six months must be spayed or neutered.

• Dog owners must be in the park and within view of their dogs at all times.

• All off-leash dogs must be under voice control of their owners.

• Dog owners must keep their leash in hand at all times.

• Please do not bring dog food into the park.

• Owner must clean up dog feces. Seal waste in the provided bags before disposing in designated receptacles.

• Fill any holes your dog digs.

• Proof of a current rabies vaccination and license is required upon request of a police or animal control officer. Tags may serve as proof.

• Failure to abide by the park rules may result in loss of privileges or owners may be ticketed.

• Use of dog park is at owners’ and pets’ risk. *Park occassionally closed during normal hours for maintenance and special events.

LIBRARY

INFORMATION Hours: Monday-Closed, Tuesday-Saturday-10am-9pm, Sunday-10am-6pm Conveniently co-located with City Hall and Jirani Coffeehouse in Manassas Park’s Park Central.

Signal Hill Monument

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 13-acre monument site is located in the eastern end of the City, adjacent to Signal Hill Park. Signal Hill is open year round from 7:30am until dusk.

Camp Carondolet

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 8-acre Civil War encampment is located in the Blooms Crossing subdivision adjacent to Cougar Elementary School. A series of nature trails are available to the public year round from 7:30am until dusk.

The Georgia Cemetery

Included in the Camp Carondelet nomination is a Civil War cemetery located in the direct vicinity of Camp Carondelet in the Blooms Crossing subdivision.

The Union Mill Trestle

A key structure in the Civil War, this is located in the last few remaining acres of the once Union Mill Park near the VRE lot and General’s Ridge Golf Course. This site is not accessible to the general public.

All parks and facilities are open to the public and may be scheduled for specific use through the Parks and Recreation Department. The rental application is a request only, not a guarantee. A Rental Request Application is required for all facility reservations. Special Permits, in addition to the Field Use Application, may be required for after hours events, special events, or group use.

Payment must accompany a Rental Request Application. The Department does not accept tentative reservations. Cancellations must be made at least 10 days in advance in order to receive a refund for outdoor rentals. Applications are available at the Manassas Park Community Center. All rentals are subject to availability and must be booked and paid for 10 days in advance of event.

Certain restrictions may apply. Deposits are a one time refundable fee. Restrictions may apply.

Field Application: Athletic fields and park grounds are available for rental between March 15th – November 15th to registered leagues and group users. Cost for permits vary on the type of usage and the duration of the request. All spring field usage requests are accepted beginning February 1st of each calendar year for a March 15th – June 30th spring season. All fall field usage requests are accepted beginning July 1st of each calendar year for an August 15th – November 15th fall season.

Yoga Flow and Yin

Aquasize

Water Walking

Get ready for some great abdominal exercises to strengthen the muscles of the core, spine, and torso. Improve your body’s overall functional strength, balance, and coordination!

This class provides a low-impact, full body exercise while helping you tone your muscles.

Beginner Yoga

Beginners Yoga will cover the fundamentals of yoga poses and breathing techniques. This class will also focus on strength and flexibility as well as breath awareness and relaxation.

This is a combination of gentle vinyasa flow yoga and yin yoga. Tune in to your body and breathe to synchronize breath and movement as you learn to mindfully engage your muscles to support your body with integrity.

Like any water aerobic exercise, water walking is easy on the joints. The water’s buoyancy supports the body’s weight, which reduces stress on the joints and minimizes pain. Water provides 12 times the resistance of air, so as you walk, you’re really strengthening and building muscle.

Body Sculpting

A lightweight dumbbell workout moved to the beat of the music. Burn calories as you flow through a variety of exercises to sculpt and tone your body! You’ll notice improvements in your muscle tone, posture, balance, and strength.

Boot Camp

Boot Camp is designed for those desiring to increase cardiovascular fitness and increase muscular strength more efficiently. Boot Camp is for the beginner to the advanced enthusiast. Work out in a team environment while challenging yourselves with others to reach your personal fitness goals.

Buddy Yoga

Buddy Yoga will focus on the foundations of yoga while providing plenty of modifications for physically or cognitively disabled adults.

Functional Fitness Flow

In this low impact aqua class, we will use functional exercises to improve your ability to perform everyday activities at home, work or play for years to come. We will use the resistance of the water to challenge the muscles of the body while allowing the buoyancy to ease the strain on the joints. Our goal is for you to remain independent, active, and injury free by increasing muscle strength, balance, flexibility and range of motion.

Designed to help seniors improve their cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength. Medicine balls, dumbbells, exercise bands, and stability balls will be incorporated into this functional, exciting, and low impact class.

Zumba®

ZUMBA® is a program that fuses Latin and International music and dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that help to tone and sculpt the body. It provides a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

MPCC Indoor Pool Information The Manassas Park Community Center natatorium is an NCAA short course certified indoor pool consisting of eight 25 yard lanes, a zero depth entry, and a spa. The pool temperature is maintained at a comfortable 82˚F. Kick boards, pull buoys, and life jackets for patrons are available for use while at the facility.

Certain areas of the pool may not be open for public swimming due to swim lessons, group exercise classes, or league rentals.

Mini H2o and GO Camp

The City of Manassas Park, Parks and Recreation preschool is a licensed and Virginia Quality rated program. Our curriculum emphasizes recreation with creative programs that encourage participation.

(Ages 3-5) This water-themed camp will include ocean exploration activities! Children will receive a swim lesson taught by a licensed instructor and must bring a swimsuit and a towel for this camp.

Extended Care follows the licensing standards of the State of Virginia, Department of Social Services. Our Before and After School Care is for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade attending Manassas Park City Schools. We offer themed activities, which include arts and crafts, games, sports, and swimming in a fun, supervised environment! At no additional cost, teacher work days, school breaks, and some holidays are covered by full day care from 6:00am-7:00pm. (Ages 6-13) WCRB’s Youth Mixed Martial Arts class is for students with or without prior training. With emphasis on courtesy, discipline, and respect, students will learn a mixture of several different art forms. This is a white-to-back belt class with testing two to four times a year.

SUMMER CAMPS There is no better place to be than MPCC for summer camps! An array of themes, sports, and fun activities provide campers with exciting and fun memory-making moments. This fun-filled and fast-paced class also helps them with hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness using nunchakus and other child-safe weapons. Samurai Warriors Camp It’s Ancient Japan - the 1800’s. The Emperor has to put together an army of Samurai Soldiers! Mindfulness Have you heard the saying “YOLO (you only live once)” or “living in the moment”? Our passionate instructors will teach you the basics of maintaining awareness of your feelings, thoughts, and surrounding environment. We will provide all materials for journaling as well as take-home activities to practice.

MP3 (Manassas 3 O’clock Club) is a non-licensed program operated by the City of Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation.

The program is lightly supervised for your teen to have a safe and fun place to be after school. The program emphasizes recreation with creative programs and materials that encourage and invite participation. Recreation Leaders guide students in activities that allow participants to learn; choosing independent activities or participating in-group activities that are fun, safe, and challenging.

MP3 is developed for teens in grades 6-8.

MP3 is Mon-Fri during the school year from 2:45pm-7:00pm Transportation is provided from Manassas Park Middle School to the Community Center. MP3 does not meet on holidays, and teacher workdays. Must pre-register.

MP3 will only be offered on days that your child is going to school in-person.

Bake It Up This program is perfect for two kinds of people: those that have a sweet tooth, and those that love to bake. If you have both qualities, then you MUST join us as we prepare different sweets and desserts.

(Ages 14+) Naginata is an ancient Japanese weapon used by Samurai men and women. This class is taught by Sensei Djinn and will teach you the martial art form of Atarashii Naginata. All classes (except swim lessons) are included FREE of charge with the Senior Passport.

Our Senior Passport Program is for individuals 60 years of age and older. Membership is $20 per month for non-residents of Manassas Park and $10 per month for residents. Membership includes all the benefits of our Basic Membership, as well as access to all senior programs (except swim lessons) at no additional charge. Enjoy our potlucks, socials, the wellness area, pool, and more! Non-members may enroll in any of these classes individually by paying the $2/R or $4/NR daily drop-in rate. Manassas Park Buddy Club (Ages 17+) This one of a kind, special program is a self-facilitated adult social group. This program is designed to meet the needs of individuals with developmental/cognitive disabilities. Daily activities include arts and crafts, fitness classes, movies, computer, and video games. Buddies will also have access to the wellness center and the pool. $2.00 Drop-in rate for non-members. $20/month

2nd Annual Chalk Festival Kids to The Park Day is amongst us! Join us for this FREE event at Blooms Park! Let the blank pavement be your canvas and create works of art using only chalk. summer leagues__ MPYBL Summer League

MPCC Adult Summer Open Basketball League

The MPYBL will be offering a youth Saturday Summer basketball league for ages 6-15 (as of January 1st, 2023). Age divisions are co-ed: ages 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12 and 13-15. There will be a 6-team max for each division. Games will be played on Saturdays and begin June 17th. This is a 6 week season with the top teams playing for the summer league championship. Teams will be formed through a draft from the available pool of players registered. There will be no skill evaluations. T-shirts/jerseys will be provided for each team. Coaches will be able to protect their child during team formation.

(Ages 18+) Does your team have what it takes to hold up the championship trophy at the end of the season? If so, get your squad together and be a part of the 2023 Summer open basketball season!

Each team will play a guaranteed eight games. Games will be played on Sundays between 3:00pm and 6:00pm. Teams must pay registration fee before the first scheduled game! $650 per team.
