The City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to the provision of quality leisure services for the residents of Manassas Park. Over the years, through the many changes the City has endured, the Department of Parks and Recreation has responded to the growing needs of the community by continuing to support the Governing Body’s vision to be the “Premier Northern Virginia Community to live, work, and raise a family”.

POLICIES Registration

Registration is on a “first come, first serve basis.” You will only be notified if the class/program is cancelled. Late registrations may be accepted if space is available with no reduction in fee. We encourage registering online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com.

Forms & Fees

Each class/program must be accompanied by payment. You may register and pay for classes online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com or in person at the Community Center located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111. Checks are to be made payable to “City of Manassas Park.” There is a $50 returned check fee for any check returned by the bank. All credit card transactions are assessed a 3% + $0.30 fee.

Cancellations

The Department of Parks and Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class/ program which does not meet the minimum enrollment. All programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 5 days prior to the program start date. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY!

Non-City Residents

Most of the fee based classes/programs are available to non-city residents at an additional fee. Please see the individual class/program for additional information.

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather the Department of Parks and Recreation will follow the local government cancellation schedule. If classes/programs are cancelled, every attempt will be made to re-schedule the class/program.

When you rent at the Manassas Park Community Center, you can rest assured your event will be a success. A list of local preferred vendors, which includes caterers, is provided with every booking. Does your event require multiple rooms? Our building is perfect for events that need break out rooms or dressing rooms. Additional spaces can be easily added onto your rental for the same low hourly rate.

9701 Manassas Drive Blooms Park is a passive park with 4 miles of challenging and rough terrian trails. Blooms Park emphasizes a connection with nature. Wildlife including deer, eagles, foxes, turkeys, snakes, and more roam the park. Visitors should exercise caution when visiting Blooms Park.

DOG PARK INFORMATION

Costello Park

The Manassas Park Dog Park features a large and small dog run for your pets to exercise and interact in a safe environment with other dogs

• Hours: 8:00am-Dusk

• Dogs must be current on all vaccinations.

• Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the dog park.

• For the safety of your dog(s) and other park visitors, choke, prong (pinch), and spike collars are strictly prohibited. If you use these types of collars, remove them before entering the park.

• No children under the age of 16 are permitted unless accompanied by an adult. Children have a tendency to scream and run when excited, which can trigger a dog’s prey drive or natural instinct to chase. For this reason and for the safety of your children, we do not recommend bringing small children and infants into the dog park.

• Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises. Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression.

• Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the park.

• Dogs over six months must be spayed or neutered.

• Dog owners must be in the park and within view of their dogs at all times.

• All off-leash dogs must be under voice control of their owners.

• Dog owners must keep their leash in hand at all times.

• Please do not bring dog food into the park.

• Owner must clean up dog feces. Seal waste in the provided bags before disposing in designated receptacles.

• Fill any holes your dog digs.

• Proof of a current rabies vaccination and license is required upon request of a police or animal control officer. Tags may serve as proof.

• Failure to abide by the park rules may result in loss of privileges or owners may be ticketed.

• Use of dog park is at owners’ and pets’ risk.

*Park occassionally closed during normal hours for maintenance and special events.

INFORMATION

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 13-acre monument site is located in the eastern end of the City, adjacent to Signal Hill Park. Signal Hill is open year round from 7:30am until dusk.

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 8-acre Civil War encampment is located in the Blooms Crossing subdivision adjacent to Cougar Elementary School. A series of nature trails are available to the public year round from 7:30am until dusk.

The Georgia Cemetery

The Union Mill Trestle

Included in the Camp Carondelet nomination is a Civil War cemetery located in the direct vicinity of Camp Carondelet in the Blooms Crossing subdivision.

A key structure in the Civil War, this is located in the last few remaining acres of the once Union Mill Park near the VRE lot and General’s Ridge Golf Course. This site is not accessible to the general public.

All parks and facilities are open to the public and may be scheduled for specific use through the Parks and Recreation Department. The rental application is a request only, not a guarantee. A Rental Request Application is required for all facility reservations. Special Permits, in addition to the Field Use Application, may be required for after hours events, special events, or group use. Payment must accompany a Rental Request Application. The Department does not accept tentative reservations. Cancellations must be made at least 10 days in advance in order to receive a refund for outdoor rentals. Applications are available at the Manassas Park Community Center. All rentals are subject to availability and must be booked and paid for 10 days in advance of event. Certain restrictions may apply. Deposits are a one time refundable fee. Restrictions may apply.

Field Application: Athletic fields and park grounds are available for rental between March 15th – November 15th to registered leagues and group users. Cost for permits vary on the type of usage and the duration of the request. All spring field usage requests are accepted beginning February 1st of each calendar year for a March 15th – June 30th spring season. All fall field usage requests are accepted beginning July 1st of each calendar year for an August 15th – November 15th fall season.

Ab Workout

Get ready for some great abdominal exercises to strengthen the muscles of the core, spine, and torso. Improve your body’s overall functional strength, balance, and coordination!

Aquasize

This class provides a low-impact, full body exercise while helping you tone your muscles.

Beginner Yoga

Beginners Yoga will cover the fundamentals of yoga poses and breathing techniques. This class will also focus on strength and flexibility as well as breath awareness and relaxation.

Body Sculpting

A lightweight dumbbell workout moved to the beat of the music. Burn calories as you flow through a variety of exercises to sculpt and tone your body! You’ll notice improvements in your muscle tone, posture, balance, and strength.

Boot Camp

Boot Camp is designed for those desiring to increase cardiovascular fitness and increase muscular strength more efficiently. Boot Camp is for the beginner to the advanced enthusiast. Work out in a team environment while challenging yourselves with others to reach your personal fitness goals.

Buddy Yoga

Buddy Yoga will focus on the foundations of yoga while providing plenty of modifications for physically or cognitively disabled adults.

Functional Fitness Flow

In this low impact aqua class, we will use functional exercises to improve your ability to perform everyday activities at home, work or play for years to come. We will use the resistance of the water to challenge the muscles of the body while allowing the buoyancy to ease the strain on the joints. Our goal is for you to remain independent, active, and injury free by increasing muscle strength, balance, flexibility and range of motion.

Kickboxing

This exciting, fast paced, upbeat class is a fusion of boxing, martial arts, and aerobics, all performed rhythmically to music.

Restorative Aquafit

This low impact aqua class uses gentle movements that will help increase flexibility, range of motion, and strength.

Senior Yoga

This gentle yoga class is for individuals 60 years of age and up. Senior yoga will help to increase mobility, inspire tranquility, and promote an overall sense of well being.

Senior Strength and Stretch

Designed to help seniors improve their cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength. Medicine balls, dumbbells, exercise bands, and stability balls will be incorporated into this functional, exciting, and low impact class.

Zumba®

ZUMBA® is a program that fuses Latin and International music and dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that help to tone and sculpt the body. It provides a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Yoga Flow and Yin

This is a combination of gentle vinyasa flow yoga and yin yoga. Tune in to your body and breathe to synchronize breath and movement as you learn to mindfully engage your muscles to support your body with integrity.

Water Walking

Like any water aerobic exercise, water walking is easy on the joints. The water’s buoyancy supports the body’s weight, which reduces stress on the joints and minimizes pain. Water provides 12 times the resistance of air, so as you walk, you’re really strengthening and building muscle.

Manassas Park Sharks Swim Team

(Ages 5-18) Does your child love swimming, but is aging out of our swim lesson program? Does your child participate on a summer swim team? Is your child looking for a way to stay active and make new friends? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, the Manassas Park Sharks Swim Team is the perfect fit for your family! This swim team is about having fun, making friends, staying fit, and perfecting your swim skills! There won’t be long, early morning swim meets every weekend. MPCC Indoor Pool Information

The Manassas Park Community Center natatorium is an NCAA short course certified indoor pool consisting of eight 25 yard lanes, a zero depth entry, and a spa. The pool temperature is maintained at a comfortable 82˚F. Kick boards, pull buoys, and life jackets for patrons are available for use while at the facility. Certain areas of the pool may not be open for public swimming due to swim lessons, group exercise classes, or league rentals.

Scheduling your child’s birthday party at Signal Bay Waterpark is easy! Just make a reservation at Signal Bay Waterpark or at the Manassas Park Community Center and we’ll take care of the rest!

All day access to the Waterpark for each paid guest

Extended Care follows the licensing standards of the State of Virginia, Department of Social Services. Our Before and After School Care is for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade attending Manassas Park City Schools. We offer themed activities, which include arts and crafts, games, sports, and swimming in a fun, supervised environment!

Before School care operates from 6:00am-7:30 am. After School Care operates from 3:10pm-7pm. At no additional cost, teacher work days, school breaks, and some holidays are covered by full day care from 6:00am-7:00pm.

Teen ID Policy: Teens between ages 12-15, including those without memberships, will need to be issued a Community Center Teen ID in order to access the facility without a parent or guardian. Teens will be required to leave their ID at the front desk when they enter the building and retrieve it when they exit the building. Teens who do not retrieve their ID when exiting the building must pay a $5.00 drop-in on their next visit.

Get Fit Monday

Stop by MPCC for a full-body circuit workout! It can be intense or light, depending on how hard you push yourself. We will provide you with a log to keep track of your progress.

All Sports

Compete with friends in a blend of sports, water games, and teambuilding games. Be ready for many laughs while building social skills.

Drop-In Basketball

Every Wednesday and Friday, the Community Center basketball courts are the place to be! The gym is reserved just for you to hoop with your friends. Grab your friends, a basketball, and meet us on the court!

Just Dance

Do you love to dance? Join us in the Teen Center on Thursdays to compete against friends in the Just Dance video game!

Connect with Your Community Friday Night Live

Fridays nights in the teen center are LIT! The first and third Friday of each month, we’ll have a new activity accompanied by music and food. Come find out why the Teen Center is the place to be! Masks must be worn and social distance measures must be adhered to.

Movie Monday

On Mondays, the Teen Center turns into a mini movie theater! Grab a spot on the couch with some candy or popcorn and enjoy a great film. We will watch anything from Disney classics to the latest superhero film. All films are rated G - PG-13.

Chef Time

Are you tired of fast and canned food? This fun program will have you cooking up a storm! Easy, yet delicious and nutritious meals are made in this class. Get ready to eat healthy and cook for yourself!

Mindfulness

Have you heard the saying “YOLO (you only live once)” or “living in the moment”? Our passionate instructors will teach you the basics of maintaining awareness of your feelings, thoughts, and surrounding environment. We will provide all materials for journaling as well as take-home activities to practice.

Bake It Up

This program is perfect for two kinds of people: those that have a sweet tooth, and those that love to bake. If you have both qualities, then you MUST join us as we prepare different sweets and desserts.

Learn Something New Game Night

Stop by the Teen Center and compete against friends in a variety of board games, ice hockey, futsal, and video games!

Teen Life Skills

Living a well-rounded and balanced life involves much more than a good academic education. Although education is important, life and social skills are just as much. In this program, youth will learn about topics such as decision-making, critical thinking, etiquette, managing money, jobs to career goals, time management, choosing the right friends, and community service.

DIY Pinterest Crafts

ItWho doesn’t love scrolling through Pinterest and making idea boards? In this class, you can make those ideas come true with your friends!

Volunteer Club

Do you love your community and want to give back? Maybe you need community service hours for school? Whatever the reason is, we invite you to join us on Tuesdays for volunteer opportunities around the Community Center.

GENERAL ◊MP3◊

MP3 (Manassas 3 O’clock Club) is a non-licensed program operated by the City of Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation. The program is lightly supervised for your teen to have a safe and fun place to be after school. The program emphasizes recreation with creative programs and materials that encourage and invite participation. Recreation Leaders guide students in activities that allow participants to learn; choosing independent activities or participating in-group activities that are fun, safe, and challenging. MP3 is developed for teens in grades 6-8.

MP3 is Mon-Fri during the school year from 2:45pm-7:00pm

Transportation is provided from Manassas Park Middle School to the Community Center. MP3 does not meet on holidays, and teacher workdays. Must pre-register.

MP3 will only be offered on days that your child is going to school in-person.

We are looking for outgoing involved teens to help shape and plan our teen programs and events. The Teen Advisory Board is a group of teens that want to have their voices heard! (Ages 14+) Naginata is an ancient Japanese weapon used by Samurai men and women. This class is taught by Sensei Djinn and will teach you the martial art form of Atarashii Naginata. All experience levels welcome. Loaner equipment is available. A onetime registration fee of $60 is required. Sessions are held monthly. The Sunday class will meet every other week. $30/Month

Nutrition Class

(Ages 14+) A health and wellness class to provide basic understanding of nutrition. This class will provide simple education to help people make healthy lifelong nutrition choices. ◊WCRB Teen Mixed Martial Arts◊

(Ages 13-19) WCRB’s Teen MMA Class is for students with or without prior training. With emphasis on courtesy, discipline and respect, students will learn a mixture of several different art forms. The TMMA program is combined with our academic excellence program for maximization of your child’s learning experience. This is a belt class from white to black with testing two to four times a year. All equipment and uniforms must be purchased through WCRB Karate. $50/per month for one class a week; $80/per month for two classes a week. Classes end in June.

LGBTQ+ Youth Fridays are back! Join us every second and fourth Friday nights of the month from 6:00pm-7:00pm. We will have games, giveaways, and entertaining conversations with fellow LGBTQ+ youth and queer facilitators and allies. This is a social group open to ages 12-17. Our Senior Passport Program is for individuals 60 years of age and older. Membership is $20 per month for non-residents of Manassas Park and $10 per month for residents. Membership includes all the benefits of our Basic Membership, as well as access to all senior programs (except swim lessons) at no additional charge. Enjoy our potlucks, socials, the wellness area, pool, and more! Non-members may enroll in any of these classes individually by paying the $2.00 daily drop-in rate. Times, dates, and activities are subject to change.

Pickleball This sport is described as a combination of tennis and badminton. It is also a fun and great way to get exercise. This is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and has gained much popularity at the Community Center. (Pickleball plays outdoors at Metz Middle School until August 26th. Senior Day Out Bus transportation is provided on Wednesdays for individuals looking to visit MPCC or conduct City Hall Businesssuch as seeing the Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, or the Registrar Office. Pick-up time begins at 9:30am.

(Ages 17+) This one of a kind, special program is a self-facilitated adult social group. This program is designed to meet the needs of individuals with developmental/cognitive disabilities. Daily activities include arts and crafts, fitness classes, movies, computer, and video games. We are proud to bring another season of basketball back to MPCC! Our Biddy Ball league is co-ed, and we focus on skill development fundamentals. In this age group, teams practice and play games on Fridays only. Practices will begin December 9th and games will begin January 6th. In this league, teams will practice once a week and play games mostly on Saturdays. Games may be played at Manassas Park Middle school. Division placement is determined by age on January 1st, 2023. Dates are subject to change. Space is Limited. Skills evaluation will be the week of November 14th. Teams are formed via draft. Practices will begin the week of December 12th.
