ROTARY CLUB OF BOMBAY KANDIVLI

Rotary Club of Bombay Kandivli

We seem to be coming out of the difficult times of the last two years and the economy seems to be opening up. With a better situation, RCBK has also gone into full drive with meetings, projects and fellowships in Feb and March. It was a high-octane month for RCBK. With our membership drive at full throttle, we achieved the invincible, of becoming a 100 member club on 3rd Feb. Kudos to Rtn. Swatantra Kumar and his team believed in this dream and worked very hard to achieve it. The growth has not stopped, and we are inching to 110. We are now the 14th largest club amongst 110 odd clubs in our District 3141. It is also heartening to see the high quality of new members and their involvement in various projects and activities. To celebrate our century mark, we organised a Mega Induction Event for new members on th

6 March, in the presence of our District Governor, Rtn. Dr Rajendra Agarwal. We inducted 15 new members and have a record of inducting 34 new members in the presence of our DG in three different events. We thank our DG for his time and blessings. It was an event, packed at Royal Court Hall at Evershine club with almost 100 guests. In these two months, we launched two of the most significant long-term projects Happy School at Kunde Village and Rotary Green Fingers at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP). The commissioning of the various facilities at Kunde was the most satisfying project, RCBK had undertaken in the last few years. We had almost 45 members and their families attend this landmark programme, and the villagers created an atmosphere of a festival, which was never seen before. A very satisfying project, which would positively affect all the children of this village. All of this was possible due to the great teamwork and comradery amongst our members. Kudos to Rtn. Swatanta Kumar, Jatin, Sanjay and many more and a big thanks to our donors – Abhitech Energycon.

Parallelly, our team is led by Rtn. Dr Pradhan was working on another landmark

project -Rotary Green Fingers, whereby we donated three Electric Vehicles to SGNP, which would facilitate the movement of Senior citizens, and others within the SGNP. This is the first such initiative in any National Park in Maharashtra. We had a grand opening on 26th March, in the presence of top officials from the Forest Department and had the presence of more than 40 Rotarians. We profusely thank our Donors – Celebi NAS and Mindteck, facilitated by Rtn. Laxman Prasad and our Charter

President Rtn.Yusuf Lanewala, respectively.

It was also a period of a few very meaningful Medical Projects. We organised Cancer Detection Camp for BEST staff at Magathane Depot and An Eye Check-up camp at Shriram Vidya Mandir, and Kranti Nagar in association with CPAA and Sahu Hospital respectively. Very well organised by Rtn. Dr Neeta Dodwad and supported by many Rotarians. We also got a successful Pediatric Heart Surgery for a child, recommended by Rtn. Prashant Mishra. Thanks to the efforts of our PP Rtn.Deepa Goenka and our DG.

Our Director-Youth Services, Rtn. Bandana Guha was not behind, and we Installed our 2nd Rotaract Club at GD Jalan College in Malad with the induction of 35 members. This was initiated by RCBK Rotaract President Yash Savla, who worked very closely with us and the institution. We welcome President Rutveek Mehta and wish him the best. RCBK donated medicines worth Rs.188750 to Ramkrishna Mission Hospital at Juhu to help needy patients undergoing kidney-related treatments. We acknowledge the CSR donation by M/s Kuloday Technopark and thank AG Rtn. Praveen Mukim and our PP Rtn. Raj Verma, for facilitating the donation, in a short period. In addition, our PP Rtn. Raj Verma and Rtn.PK Sultania donated Rs.44000 to this hospital. Thanks! We also had a strong contingent of 10 RCBK members who participated in the DISCON on 20th March. It was a fantastic and unique event, with a lot of soul in it and amazing speakers. A day well spent. These two months were also full of Fellowship programmes, which is the hallmark of Rotary. On 20th Feb, we had an exciting and high energy fellowship programme of a cricket match between our neighbouring clubs, and it was quite entertaining and build great teamwork and friendships, which is the hallmark of any fellowship event. Thanks to Rtn.Amit Gupta and the team for this seamless and enjoyable event. On 26th Feb, almost 40 Rotarians spend the evening at a Resort after a hard day of commissioning of Kunde Project. Apart from having a gala time, we discovered a lot of hidden talents of our members and their spouses. From 10th to 14th March, a group of 20 Rotarians and their families toured Kevadia and visited the iconic “Statue of Unity” of our great Leader, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, This is the first time that RCBK had organised such a long fellowship trip. Apart from sightseeing, which is a must for everyone, we also developed strong bonding amongst ourselves. Thanks to Rtn. Lalit and Rtn. Deepali for organising this enjoyable trip. On 19th March, we had 40 Rotarians watch the movie “Kashmir Files” together. It was a nice experience watching a Movie together. Thanks, Rtn. Lalit. Such fellowship events bring us all together and are a nice opportunity to know and understand each other. These two months have been very significant for us and have built our confidence and belief, that if we dream and plan well, we can conduct many major projects with long term objectives, impacting the underprivileged, the environment and various other social causes. I take this opportunity to welcome all our new members, who can redefine our activities and projects with their ideas and contribution and make RCBK, one of the most vibrant clubs in our District. Wishing all the very best to all our members and their families and looking forward to more and more meaningful participation by everyone.

The Gift of Life

PAEDIATRIC HEART SURGERY

In 1972 worldwide Rotary International initiated - THE GIFT OF LIFE PROGRAM, with its primary purpose to help those needy children who required corrective heart surgery secure another lease on life through the miracle of open-heart surgery in a Gift of Life Participating Hospital. In India this program started in 2002. RCBK has been supporting these programs from many years now. Rtn Prashant Mishra connected with ever approachable Rtn Deepa Goenka and DG Rtn Dr Rajendra along with two other club's donations within no time the young Ayushi was operated at Jerbai Wadia Hospital. RCBK is thankful to Rtn Balmohan Aggarwal for his support, without whom this would not have been possible. It is long term goodwill of Rotary District Champions and its association with Wadia Hospital, that Ayushi Jha got her Gift of Life – so now with a strong heart she is ready to mark her place in this lovely world. Well for RCBK it is just one more smile added…… one more life saved. The worst situation for any parents, is when their child can be saved by medical intervention, and they can't afford it. That is the story of 5-year-old lovely g i r l Ay u s h i J h a , b o r n w i t h a congenital heart malformation, requiring surgical correction. So, when Ayushi's father Amit Jha a security guard with Vishnu Shivam Tower, approached Rtn Prashant Mishra, resident of the tower, he immediately sprung into action.

EYE CHECK-UP CAMP

SHRIRAM VIDYA MANDIR

For school-age children, regular vision checks are important. Eye exams help uncover vision problems, detect eye diseases early and help preserve vision long-term. A child's vision can change often, and unexpectedly, from ages 6 to 18. Vision problems left uncorrected can be responsible to impaired child development, interfere with learning, cause behavioural and attention issues, and can also lead to permanent vision loss. RCBK has been over few years has been regularly conducting free eye checkup, in schools. So, when a request to conduct on such eye check-up camp came up at at Shriram Vidya Mandir, Kranti Nagar, Lokhandwala Kandivali East, RCBK sprung to action, with the help of Dr Neeta Dodwad, Medical Director and Medical Projects Advisor Rtn PP RajKamal Verma, along with RCBK members Kalpana, Shakti, Modiji, PP Rajesh, and Ramesh Chandraji. RCBK in association with Sahu Eye Hospital conducted this free eye check up at school th premises on 25 February, around 85 students, teachers and staff were examined. 16 students were found to have refractive errors and so were advised prescription glasses, their prescription glasses will also be sponsored by RCBK. 6 students were advised for dilated subjective refraction, 3 students advised to recheck colour vision, 1 Student was diagnosed with squint with refractive error and 1 student was referred to base hospital for chalazion treatment. 56 students were found to have normal eye vision with no abnormality detected. RCBK thanks our new Rtn Shyam Sharma of Shamkris for sponsoring the free eye check-up camp

Remembering INDIA'S PRICELESS GEM Lata Mangeshkar Ji Lata Mangeshkar Ji is a voice that all Indians have grown up with, We have lived all our emotions with her. Invariably she has been part of all our emotions. One we all had our brush with love, her voice expressed our emotions with Piya tose naina laage, and we wanted to tease our loved one what better than that voice with hint of laughter and subtle tease - Kya karoon raam muhje buddha mil gaya. Patriotism, when every Indian cried listening to Aye mere watan ke logon it and it is an ultimate depiction and tribute to our armed forces. She is the 'Voice of the millennia', a priceless gem of India whose melodic voice has the transcendental power to connect with the divine! And O palan hare nirgun ho nyare take you to a different place and make you forget your worries, showcasing the Shanta (calm) rasa. Her voice has no boundaries and could depict all emotions, with a career spanning seven decades, singing more than 50,000 songs in more than 36 languages proved that. She enthralled us with songs covering every emotion, 'Navarasas' as it's called in the Natya Shastra.

Lata ji, at 90 years, decided to record her last song Ata visavyacha kshan..., translating to 'it's now time to take rest.' It is sung in Marathi and has a very lovely meaning. It translates to 'I am satisfied with my long journey and the lovely memories it has given me. I am thankful for it, but now the time has come to rest, and I am going to do it with satisfaction and contentment that I have given my best...' What a voice, what a life, what a dedication and what a journey! What we can learn from Lata ji's life is that one needs to give their best, with earnest efforts and that is all there is to life! Lata ji continues to live in our hearts and is eternal!

The growth has not stopped, and we are inching to 110. We are now the 14th largest club amongst 110 odd clubs in our District 3141. It is also heartening to see the high quality of new members and their involvement in various projects and activities. To celebrate our century mark, we organised a Mega Induction Event for new members on 6th March, in the presence of our District Governor, Rtn. Dr Rajendra Agarwal. We inducted 15 new members and have a record of inducting 34 new members in the presence of our DG in three different events. We thank our DG for his time and blessings. It was an event, packed at Royal Court Hall at Evershine club with almost 100 guests.

On 19th March, we had 40 Rotarians watch the movie "Kashmir Files" together. It was a nice experience watching a Movie together. Thanks, Rtn.Lalit. Such fellowship events bring us all together and are a nice opportunity to know and understand each other.
