Zamar Yauw R&B music will have to make way for a “good one.”

Zamar Yauw released his freshmen EP titled “Lover’s Blvd” in October 2020-despite a pandemic.

With the return of live shows, Zamar travels from city to city connecting with music fans who sing along to his catchy hooks and shout the infectious “Yauw.” The crooner brings a new sound to R&B that has already earned the attention of H.E.R.

Zamar was born in Nassau, Bahamas. He inherited his dad’s love for music. At age 10 his family moved to the United States and settled in Houston, Texas for better opportunities and schooling.

A good one

A self-proclaimed “old soul,” Zamar would listen to oldies R&B and Reggae.

“I am very inspired by Bob Marley, Kevin Lyttle, Ron Isley and R. Kelly,” says Zamar. “I really love old school music and songs that paint the story of love’s ups and downs.”

Zamar borrows material from his own relationships to pen lyrics. But longstanding relationships like that of his grandparents, who have been married for more than 50 years, serve as the catalyst.

“EVERYONE GOES THROUGH HEARTBREAK AND HARD TIMES IN A RELATIONSHIP. I JUST CHOOSE TO WRITE IT DOWN AND SING ABOUT IT.” “The best writers are the ones that go through the most,” he adds. “The ones that pay attention to it and are intune to it.”

Although today’s radio stations rotate pop and hip hop hits, Zamar says that people-even young people-still want to hear R&B and love songs.

A REAL LOVE

When he’s not captivating audiences of his own, he’s front row and center supporting other musicians. He and his friend made their way backstage to meet the singer H.E.R. after a concert performance. Zamar loves her music and considers her to be “one hell of a writer.”

“I met her assistant and he told us that if we could get back there we could meet her,” Zamar recalled. “It felt like a game of PAC-MAN going through security to get backstage.”

When he was finally backstage the assistant was shocked to see him but kept his promise. H.E.R. asked him to sing something for her. Zamar sang “Dark Halo,” a song he has yet to release.

“She hugged me like three times and told me she liked my voice,” he says. “I’ll always remember that.”

Since the release of “Lover’s Blvd” EP, Zamar has released videos for the singles “Good One,” “Social Freaks (Produced by Mr. Hanky),” and “”Real Love.” The video for “Good One” is fastapproaching 100k views on YouTube. In July he will release a visual for “Forever In Love.”

Zamar says he created the saying to mean, “You are ultimately worthy.”

“You’re worthy of love and worthy of all of the good things that are coming your way,” he said.

Zamar says this has definitely been his year. For him, “a switch has gone off.”
