An independent film titled “Unsurety” will debut at the AMC Theater on Friday, May 28.

Scheduled show times are for 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tickets may be purchased through the Facebook event page titled ‘Unsurety Movie Premiere @ AMC Theater.’ The movie was filmed in the midst of a pandemic and self-financed by filmmaker Devon Bray of Bray Films.

“Unsurety” is about a broken, hard-working, single-parent who supports her daughter by running an outpatient clinic. The film’s main character, Olivia Moore, is played by local actress Kandace Burnett. Olivia reconnects with ex-NFL player Corey Mack played by Deonde Crawford, also of Wichita. As Olivia makes efforts to allow her heart to be mended by Corey, adversity settles in from all angles. Secrets, lies, betrayals, and death. Olivia no longer recognizes her life as her own, leaving her in a place of unsurety.

Filming for the drama-comedy in 2020 was temporarily halted due to the Coronavirus. To move production efforts forward, the actors filmed for many hours on some days when it was safe to do so. Due to the virus, they were left with only two months for filming.

Production is a family affair with Bray’s wife Sherika serving as the Production Manager, Devon Bray Jr. (son) managing sound and lighting, Naomi Bray (daughter-in-law) working as the Script Supervisor, and Elexis Bray (daughter) coordinating wardrobe and props.

“Unsurety” is the first film to be released by Bray Films since the December 2019 screening of “Pearl 2.” The original Pearl was released in 2018. Unsurety is special to the Bray family as the plot is one they developed and wrote together.

Promotion of the upcoming film has been a grassroots effort powered by social media and word-of-mouth. At the end of April nearly a dozen billboards promoting the film and soundtrack emerged.

Devon Bray Sr. has worked with hundreds of entertainers across the country as a videographer. His production company has garnered more than 1.5 million fans and movie lovers through various channels such as YouTube and Facebook.

After its premiere, Unsurety will be made available on Amazon.

This independent film was produced with a budget of around $25,000 and has relied heavily on the talents of local actors and businesses for set locations.

Bray Films recently signed a distribution deal to ensure this project and future projects can reach even more viewers.

On May 7 the film’s soundtrack featuring independent musicians will be released on streaming platforms.
