Bray Films Releases Joint Custody After Success of PPP Loan Gone

Bray Films is a family affair but has gained many supporters over the years including luxury home builder Paul Gray of Paul Gray Homes. Paul even made a cameo in PPP Loan Gone.

Several of their films have been filmed inside PGH homes.

However, one filmmaker has made the city a hub—working with local actors and filming in locations across the town. Devon Bray of Bray Films says he doesn’t have to leave the city he loves to get people to pay attention to his films.

Bray Films is fresh off the heels of

their newly released movie titled “Joint Custody.” The drama-film debuted at the Tallgrass Film Center.

It’s the first project following their 2022 viral hit, “PPP Loan Gone,” a comedy movie Bray made available on Tubi, a streaming platform.

Movie lovers couldn’t get enough of the movie–one with a plot about PPP Loan schemes and the trouble looming around the corner.

In earlier years of his career, he used his camera to film music videos for independent recording artists. At the time, there were very few videographers in his hometown who could capture the essence of a hip hop music video.

Joint Custody, a drama-film, debuted at the Tallgrass Film Center. TFC supports independent film releases. It will soon be available on Amazon Prime and Tubi.

Movie producer Sherika Bray, also the wife of Devon Bray, says film watchers applauded their decision to boldly title their movie “PPP Loan Gone.”

“Most of the movies about the pandemic were all doom and gloom and tried to invoke fear,” describes Devon Bray. “So there was a major void. We needed a comedy–a way to make people laugh again.”

Bray Films has a number of other movies under the production company’s belt including Pearl(2018) and Pearl II(2019), Unsurety(2021) and a newly released drama film titled, “Joint Custody.”

“I believed in something that no one else believed,” says Bray. “I did it in a region where it hadn’t happened. When I look back on it–someone has to believe in it to create the lane.”

Most Bray Films movie projects are independently funded with a budget of around $100,000. It’s a family affair with Bray’s wife, two adult children, and daughter-in law filling a few of the production roles. After releasing a few short films on YouTube, Bray Films debuted their first full-length movies in area movie theaters with limited showings which sold-out. They are intentional about identifying small-business locations that could benefit from the exposure. One of the locations they filmed was Jenny Dawn Cellars, Kansas’ first Blackowned winery.

“We know the earnest work that it takes for a small business and entrepreneur to stay around,” says Sherika Bray. “God gave us that platform and we choose to pay it back and pay it forward.”

“We have to keep showcasing what we have here in the city,” she adds.

Devon Bray isn’t surprised by the overwhelming response to his films or the attention from larger film companies.

In fact, he says he has always believed it could be done. Nonetheless, the feeling he had when it happened was “indescribable.”

“We’re bringing our people together to create great things together,” says Devon Bray.
