This past year has been a remarkable journey, and I am filled with gratitude for the incredible support our community has provided. The unwavering commitment from our donors, partners, volunteers, and supporters has been the cornerstone of our success, allowing us to continue fulfilling our mission. Together, we have accomplished so much, and have successfully served nearly 500 students through after-school and summer programming this year.
Each of these individuals represents a unique story of resilience, determination, and hope. Through our programs, students have not only gained access to essential academic resources, but have also been provided with the life skills necessary to navigate the challenges of adolescence and beyond. It is deeply rewarding to witness the transformation in our students as they grow in confidence, develop new skills, and set ambitious goals for their futures.
I want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you who has contributed to the success of the Foundation. Your dedication is inspiring, and it is because of you that we have been able to make a difference in the lives of so many young people for the last 28 years.
The mission of the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is to develop champions in classrooms, on tennis courts and throughout communities.
Our vision is that the young people who participate in our program will be provided with the resources they need to rise to their full potential and become contributing members of society.
The Tennis-N-Tutoring (TnT) program provides academic assistance, tennis instruction, recreation, and enrichment activities to elementary students.
Leadership serves middle school students by promoting academic success while incorporating social emotional learning and positive life skills.
Club 904 is specific to high school students with college preparation and workforce development. As a part of the Leaders in Training program, youth can serve as Junior Classroom Assistants, Coaches, or Admin Assistants to gain community service hours or work experience.
Students who would like to seriously pursue tennis have the opportunity to join the competitive tennis team and participate in small group lessons, USTA events, and travel to tournaments. Each member receives a racket for personal use.

The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is a source of hope for a better future to Jacksonville youth, empowering them to reach their full potential through education, life skills, and tennis. Over the years, we have provided thousands of students with the tools and support they need to become contributing members of society. Our programs are designed to nurture the whole child, focusing on academic achievement, character development, and physical wellness through tennis. As a result, we have seen remarkable outcomes that include 100% on-time graduation rates, increased college acceptances, and the development of future leaders who are prepared to make a positive impact on their communities.
$117k 99% 84% 100% AWARDED IN HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS PROMOTED TO THE NEXT GRADE MISSED LESS THAN 21 DAYS OF SCHOOL GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL ON TIME
Amaya’s journey with MWYF began in elementary school, and now she enters the next chapter of her life at Florida State University as a Presidential Scholar. Her story is filled with ambition and the determination to succeed. While looking to major in Anthropology and Communications, Amaya credits MWYF for the unwavering support that has guided her to reach this point. During high school, she excelled not only academically, but also in leadership and athletics, serving as Vice President of the National Honor Society, President of the Jax NAACP Youth Council, and a member of the Varsity Bowling and Softball teams, among many other clubs. Amaya’s aspirations are to earn her PhD and then create documentary films that explore and celebrate cultures from around the world. Her achievements are a testament to the power of the support and impact of MWYF’s programs in shaping the future of young leaders. Amaya says, “I deeply appreciate the community, family, and guidance that MWYF has provided me throughout my years here. I wouldn’t be half the person I am today if not for my time here.”
Caleb’s time in our programs, beginning in middle school, shows the power of guidance and mentorship. From his early days, Caleb showed promise not only in academics, but also on the tennis court. His dedication and hard work paid off when he was awarded the prestigious Student Athlete of the Year Award and Scholarship in 2023, a moment that highlighted his exceptional talent and commitment. Now, as Caleb heads off to Morehouse College in Atlanta with a major in Kinesiology, we couldn’t be more proud of the young man he has become. Caleb worked closely with MWYF College Career Coach, Ms. Cynthia Chomiak. Through her support and guidance, Caleb was not only accepted into Morehouse College, his number one school, but many other prestigious institutions. Caleb showed outstanding leadership skills throughout high school, working as an assistant tennis coach. He was a great role model to the younger kids in our program, showing great respect, integrity, and accountability. We are committed to providing opportunities for youth to excel, grow, and succeed both on and off the court.
Each week, our students participate in group tennis sessions designed to develop their skills on the court while also building discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Tennis at MWYF is more than just a sport; it’s a powerful tool for personal growth and a key element in our mission to develop champions. For those who wish to take their skills to the next level, our competitive tennis team provides the opportunity for extra practice and to play in tournaments across Northeast Florida. Our players proudly represented MWYF in Junior Team Tennis, UTR events, and USTA tournaments throughout Northeast Florida.

33 MENTORS VOLUNTEERED WEEKLY
The dedication and time our volunteers invest in our programs have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of the youth we serve. Through mentoring, volunteering in after-school and summer camp activities, sponsoring, and supporting supply drives, our volunteers play a critical role in fostering a supportive environment where our youth can thrive. The relationships built through these efforts inspire our students to aim higher, work harder, and believe in their potential. The generosity of our volunteers not only strengthens our programs, but also reinforces the idea that our community is deeply committed to their success. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Jacksonville’s youth.

Our annual gala is a heartfelt evening that raises crucial funds to support our programs. Guests enjoy a social cocktail hour, dinner, live and silent auctions, student testimonials, engaging activities, and a special guest interview! The gala welcomes nearly 400 business professionals, community leaders and valued partners who share our vision that the young people who participate in our program will be provided with the resources they need to rise to their full potential and become contributing members of society. The 2023 gala raised a record-breaking $338,000! We couldn’t be more thankful to our sponsors and supporters who allowed us to achieve this remarkable milestone.

Summer camp is a vital component of our programming to support at-risk youth in our community. For many of our students, summer can be a time of uncertainty, with limited access to safe, engaging, and educational activities that help to reduce summer learning loss. Our summer camps fill this gap by providing nearly 300 youth with a structured environment where they can continue to learn, grow, and thrive during the summer months. Through a mix of academic enrichment, daily tennis instruction, field trips, and character-building experiences, our camps offer essential support that helps to bridge the achievement gap and keep Jacksonville youth on track for success. The Summer Teen Employment (STEP) Camp provides a unique opportunity for our young adults to gain hands-on job skills. Our teens work daily assisting our tennis coaches, camp counselors, front desk personnel, and facilities teams. The impact of our summer programming is evident in the confidence, skills, and resilience our students develop, equipping them with the tools they need to return to school in the fall ready to succeed.
The 2023-24 scholarship ceremony was special as we awarded a record $117,000 to our youth in grades 5 - 12. For 28 years, this community-funded initiative has inspired our youth to pursue higher education and see a brighter future for themselves. Many of our students come from low-income backgrounds and these scholarships provide vital opportunities for them to continue their education beyond high school. The awards recognized our youth based on academic excellence, community service, leadership, kindness, and extra effort on and off the tennis court, after undergoing a panel interview and submitting an essay. Kameron, 7th grade, was awarded the prestigious George M. Soper Student Athlete of the Year Award. He says, “It feels great to see my hard work on the court all year is getting recognized. I look up to the older kids who have gotten it before me and seeing where they are now makes me want to continue to grow.”
A very significant moment of this year’s scholarship ceremony was awarding the Jayden Critten Memorial Award. Jayden was a student in our programs starting in the 2nd grade and passed in March of 2024 as a sophomore. Our amazing community donated to support his family in their dire time of need. With funds leftover, a scholarship was named in his honor. The photo below shows the Critten family awarding one of Jayden’s close friends, Zion, with the scholarship.
